I am a casual watcher of this show. It is not a favorite, but I have a passing familiarity with it. I have not seen every episode, but I have seen a lot of episodes. I live in China as a teacher, and this show is very popular with students. Sometimes after a good lesson, I will show a TV show and have been showing Big Bang because it is so popular and is in Chinese/English subtitles.

Sheldon is obviously gay! It is not that the actor, Jim Parsons is also gay, but Sheldon is just GAY. He has little sexual interest in the Mayim Bailik character, plus the Bailik character is seen as a homely, frumpy woman. But Sheldon is gay, and why not have the show just go that direction with the character?

This has probably been asked on a lot of message boards. It's not that he is shy around women, he does not particulary like them! I have even told my students that Sheldon is gay but in the closet.

Actually, while Jim Parsons is gay, he has stated in interviews that he plays Sheldon as an asexual Aspie.

That's the way he always seemed to me. He doesn't like any human contact.

Exactly! I don't see Sheldon as gay at all. He doesn't want sexual contact with anyone, male or female. Although, I do think he's shown a little more interest in Amy lately. I'm cheering for them as a couple. She certainly puts up with a lot from him and I hope her efforts eventually pay off. :)

LOL, I'm a huge ShAmy shipper. They are wonderful together!

For the most part, I've always felt that Sheldon was asexual. There are a few moments where I start to wonder, like the time he checked out Penny when she was naked and another when he hung out with Leonard's mother.

I used to think that Amy was a lesbian or bisexual. She obviously had a thing for Penny, but the writers and producers dropped it for some reason.

Sheldon definitely comes across as asexual and has an overwhelming distaste for any physical or romantic sexual nonsense and deems it a waste of time and a disgusting habit; but he admits that it may be necessary in order to procreate and disseminate his superior genes into the population.

Amy on the other hand definitely comes across as gay or bi, specifically with Penny - even in the most recent episodes.

I would not say that Sheldon is gay- I would agree with the assessment that he is largely asexual- but he might wind up getting married to Amy- who knows? I like that couple on the show even though it is a very interesting arrangement. For the record, I think Amy is similarly asexual like Sheldon in general.

I've lost interest in Leonard and Penny...he's always too afraid of saying something that might make her angry and the relationship kind of bores me but Amy and Sheldon I adore!!! I am pulling for them too and want them to stay together.

As far as Bernadette and Howard...I really cant stand Bernadette...she is just mean and not funny at all.

I really can't comment on this too much only because I have yet to watch enough of this show to do so. But the few episodes I've seen are hilarious and I hope to watch them all as soon as I can. That being said, I like Sheldon and so reading these posts intrigues me to watch even more eps. Sorry I don't have much else to add here.

Because there would be no need for Amy, plus it would put an actor out of work.

Anyway, having little or no interest in sex is not necessarily synonymous with homosexuality. It could be a case of sexual repression, which is usually some sort of ego-defense mechanism against early life trauma.Me myself,I kind of think that Sheldon's lack of sexuality is quite refreshing to see on tv today as I feel there is way too much of a slant towards these matters.I mean I know sex sells is like cardinal rule with these things, but sometimes with some of the more recent programs,I get the felling like I'm watching something written by mid-teens with serious hormonal difficulties.

I dont think they should ever make sheldon and amy have sex. it would ruin the sheldon character and just be one huge jump the shark moment.

I personally believe "Bang" may have already jumped the shark. It may have happened when the stories began revolving just as much if not more around the girlfriends than the original gang of four.I don't know how the Nielsen numbers break down in accordance to gender, but the show has seemingly coursed from more for males to females. Its premise has been duly shattered. Its become a bit "soap-opera".

I mean the show is still funny i still like it i mean you cant keep a character the same forever people grow up and learn change. I mean you wanted howard to stay some skirt chaser dirty talker for the rest of his life? plus even if sheldon was gay he wouldnt go for guys ether i mean just because he not with amy why do you assume he gay a lot of people dont bother with ether sexes

That is another good point as well. I hope to God they don't go down that road.
