I don't know how many of you have seen the hysterical and severely underrated movie "Stay Tuned" from 1992, where John Ritter plays a man who gets sucked into a Twilight Zone-ish world of sadistic versions of t.v. shows with his wife. Anyways, I recently read that the movie was based on a segment from UM, though for the life of me, I have no idea which segment. I'm drawing a blank...does anyone have any ideas?

I love any movie that features the line "I ditched my wife five channels ago." If you've never seen this movie, it's a laugh riot and I highly recommend it.

I checked on Google. I found this from two sources. Not sure how reliable they are.

A man stayed at a hotel. It was late and he turned off the TV. He was having trouble falling asleep and he looked at the TV and saw 'eyes' on the screen. Suddenly, he was transported back in time (old west times or so) where he witnessed a murder at that hotel.

Does this segment sound familiar to anyone ? I know UM has done storylines on stuff like this. Maybe this is what the movie is based on ?

Some say it was the Fish Springs, NV ghost segment because of the eyes on the t.v. screen thing. I don't know about that though.

Others think it was actually an episode of the anthology series Amazing Stories called "Remote Control Man", which is in my collection.

Have no idea whether or not it was inspired by UM, but I do agree that it's a criminally underrated movie. I love the ending credits where they keep showing the upcoming fall schedule on "Hell Vision". Also like the parody "Max Hell" commercial.

This thread is pretty aged...but I was watching Stay Tuned tonight and was looking thru the IMDB trivia and it says it was based on an Unsolved Mysteries segment. It's been 7 years since the last reply...anyone figured it out in the interim?

It's this apparently, maybe the writer of the movie got this show mixed up with UM
