Only reason I watch them is because some of the cases have new updates. But yea compared to the Stack version the reboot is horrible.

LOL! Sooo true! I have Lifetime, and I have never seen UM on it. So sad. However, I feel a little better knowing that I'm only missing the Farina versions. Those episodes seems a little too clinical for me, a little too AMW...and although I do enjoy AMW, there is nothing like Stack's presence and the creepy music, etc, that chills a person to the bone. UM has always scared me like no other show could.

Haha, I just checked my TV and I do get Lifetime. I guess that shows how much TV I watch.

That sucks about the programming. I really do hope they pick it up. It may even solve a few unsolved mysteries.

I ended up checking out a few of the episodes today with more later. Here are my problems with the new UM format:

1. Each case is too short. The longer it is, the more facts there are and the better both sides of each story can be told. Stack's version actually had a mystery to it and showed why each case is important. The Farina version just shows the case, as quick as they can and then moves on. There's no emotional value or attachment to the new versions at all and it feels very similar to every show out there. It's like here it is, don't even bother to make a judgement because it's not important.

2. The show doesn't have the spookiness factor anymore. The old UM was freaky and really knew how to hit you in different ways, this one doesn't. This one doesn't make you feel anything. The music sucks too.

3. I guess Farina is okay but he is largely replaceable. Sure he kind of looks like a cop, but he really doesn't provide anything and its obvious he's really not into it. Unlike Black, he just reads off the telemprompter and adds no character.

4. While I guess the rehashed segments can be good at times, they are usually fails. I swear UM purposely chose every case that was on youtube before. I've seen maybe 3 full episodes of the original series but I'd say I see at least 1-2 segments each time I watch the new UM that I've already seen.

The only good thing about the show is that the picture quality is good.

Fully Agree with your points. Only reason I watch the reboot once in a while is to see updates on some of the older cases that didn't have any before.

You can hook up a DVD recorder to your TV or hook your TV/DVR to your pc through a hdmi/VGA cable and record them to the pc. Then you can cut scenes out like commercials. I used this method when transferring stuff on my dvr to my pc for DVD. Worked great anything that was on my tv would show up in the program on pc so I could record anything.

A quick google search will put you in the right direction.

No problem.

I'm sure everyone here would appreciate the classic episodes being rerun. Very high demand for it online, the new show just don't have the same effect & seems rushed like others on here have stated.

Since we seem to being going round in circles a bit on these rebroadcasts here are just a couple of points worth mentioning:

1) While the Stack broadcasts may be in high demand, there was a decision made by Cosgrove & Meurer to re-edit "Unsolved Mysteries" originally for SPIKE TV to bring the show more in line with their type of fare. Eventually as we all know "Lifetime" either got back the rights full time to broadcast the show once again or is sharing the broadcast rights with SPIKE TV.

Also just judging by the fact that during the long tenure of the Stack narrated broadcasts, "Lifetime" declined to purchase the Burr/Malden episodes tells me that they aren't exactly a network that ever had a history of paying out extra royalties when they didn't need to. Even if Cosgrove/Meurer did make the Stack episodes available to "Lifetime" once again to broadcast, it's unlikely that they would purchase them given they are probably already paying for the re-edits.

Also remember that when the re-edits were created for SPIKE TV, quite a bit of work was done updating the segments and if the Stack episodes ever did return they would have to do more editing to the show to reinsert these new updates (which by the way all feature Farina voice-overs) into the original Stack broadcasts. Seems an unnecessary amount of work to be done for a show which likely has a very limited viewing audience.

2) The reason why we are likely getting marathons of UM every Wednesday night now is that "Lifetime" probably has contractual obligations to fulfill in terms of broadcasting "Unsolved Mysteries". It's likely that they are contractually obligated to broadcast the show a specified number of times over the course of a given calender year.

Given that this time of year is somewhat of a lame duck period for the network where they aren't airing a ton of original content as they no doubt will in the summer months, it does seem like an awful opportune time for them to fulfill their contractual obligations regarding UM for the calender year.

Therefore I would not only not expect the Stack episodes to return anytime soon but would also expect the Farina re-edits to vanish as soon as "Lifetime" is ready to use those time slots for it's own original programming.

Crystal,

Hi. I saw Dennis Ferina's UM show this past Saturday, Jan 25, 2014 on Lifetime. Unfortunately, I only watched the last 12 minutes of it. It probably had 2-3 shows that morning. I get a good amount of nostalgia when I see UM on cable tv because it is never on tv on a regular basis.

Also, has Unsolved Mysteries (the dvd box sets) ever been offered on Netflix? Do you think it could someday? I own most of the box sets except for boring Psychics and dull Miracles. They should have combined those 2 into one box set only and used another box set for murder only or missing only. But it would be nice to see those psychic segments on Netflix or indemand tv right away from your computer or video game system.

Has anyone heard if they would ever make another box set from UM? I realize that many episodes will not make the cut onto dvd because of statue of limitations, potential lawsuits from families or companies, and those which were solved. Despite many being removed there are still plenty of old unsolved episodes that should be on DVD. Here are segments I think should be on there.

1. Dick Hanson (California)
2. Mathew Chase (California) atm
3. Matt Flores (California)
4. Original Night Stalker (California)
5. Tom Johnson - stole pc
6. Blind River Killer
7. Dexter Stephonek - hwy rest stop murder
8. New Hampshire serial killer
9. I-5 killer
10. Phillip Fraser
11. "Carol"
12. Aileen Conway
