Faith Hill Leaves 'Sunday Night Football'
4/15/2013
by Philiana Ng

When Sunday Night Football returns this fall, it will be without Faith Hill, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

Since 2007, the country singer has sung the opening theme for NBC's primetime football program, a reworked version of Joan Jett's 'I Hate Myself for Loving You.' It was Hill's decision to exit after six seasons. (She replaced Pink, who sang the theme in 2006.)

A replacement has not yet been named.

"Faith Hill is family to all of us at Sunday Night Football. For the last six seasons and two Super Bowls, her opening performance of 'Waiting All Day' set the tone for SNF and became a television staple," Sunday Night Football producer Fred Gaudelli said in a statement to THR.

"We will always be grateful for her performances and friendship. We wish Faith nothing but continued success."

Hill announced the news on Twitter early Monday, tweeting, "Amazing 2 have been part of SNF -- an honor. I've just let everyone there know it's time 2 let someone else rock the open."

She also tweeted that it was a "difficult decision, kinda emotional."

There were times in the last six seasons when the highlight of NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcasts took place before kickoff. That's because the immortal Faith "Legatron" Hill hypnotized male viewers worldwide with her pregame song and dance before announcing on Monday that she's stepping down.

As Hill wrote in an online goodbye message, it's time to let someone else "rock the open."

Said "open" will still sound relatively similar, according to Sunday Night Football producer Fred Gaudelli, who told Pro Football Talk on Monday that Waiting All Day for Sunday Night will remain in place with a new performer.

Who might that new performer be? Who, pray tell, can do this justice...

I like Faith Hill, but I have never really been a fan of the Sunday Night Football song

Paul M. Banks of Chicago Sports Media Watch and the Sports Bank appears to have broken the story of Carrie Underwood becoming the new singing voice of Sunday Night Football. Earlier this year, Faith Hill announced that the 2012-13 season would be her last to sing the Sunday Night Football theme of “I’ve Been Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.”

The producer of "SNF" says the former "Idol" winner was the first and only choice to replace Faith Hill.

They should just use Joan Jett. The opening is lame when your using country pop princesses. Something a little edgier is needed to get ready for some football.
