Kelly Ripa: "I Don't Keep in Touch with Regis Philbin"

For people who worked side-by-side for more than a decade, Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin might not be as close as you'd think.

When asked whether she keeps in touch with her former "Live!" co-host, Ripa told The Hollywood Reporter, "I haven't seen him, no."



Ripa did add that Philbin's replacement, ex-NFL player Michael Strahan, has a lot in common with the 81-year-old.

"Well, they're both incredible storytellers. They are both fiercely competitive, and they're both incredible football players," Ripa joked.



For those who have missed Philbin since his departure in November 2011, he will host "Rush Hour", a new Fox Sports show that will premiere this summer.

Philbin should be tickled pink by not being in touch with Kelly Ripa.I wouldn't want any shallow,narcissistic,bubbleheaded narrow minded bimbos in my life either.

Regis is a busy guy. He is doing other stuff. She hasn't "seen" Regis but she has spoken to him many times. I heard her say that at a few tapings I went to. Same with Gelman. He has kept in touch him him as well.

And Solomon, both Michael and Kelly are happily married. They just have GREAT on-screen chemistry.

I'd want to stay in touch with Kelly Ripa. I think she's goregous and funny.

Ripa was busy with her Colgate commercial.

I miss Regis but I do really like Michael as her co-host.

I don't watch Kelly's show.

Kelly Ripa has gone through with her plan to cut her hair to chin-length. Her new bobbed style has made its debut. We'll see if she maintains such a short cut -- the strands seem to get in her face almost constantly.

Kelly probably feels she is 35+ years younger than Regis and what would they talk about. On the show it was easy for he was there and he is a easy talker. But she has a new host and now she is now pals with him.

Regis Philbin Talks about his Strained Relationship with Former Co-host Kelly Ripa

Although Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa sat side-by-side as co-hosts on "Live!" for a decade, the former colleagues no longer keep in touch.

In an interview with "Larry King Now" on Tuesday, the former "Live! with Regis and Kelly" host — who signed off from his ABC hosting duties in 2011 — discussed his strained relationship with Ripa, 46.

Asked by King if he keeps in touch with Ripa, Philbin responded, “Not really, no.”





Ripa joined the talk show in 2001 and co-hosted alongside Philbin for 10 years until audiences said farewell to him during his tear-filled last episode in 2011.

On his final show, Philbin told Ripa as they walked down the hallway to the studio for their final show together, “Every morning, I’ll think about this.”

“Thank you for everything,” said a teary Ripa as they embraced before the show. “I love you.”





Despite being the face of the talk show for 28 years, Philbin, 85, revealed that he has not been asked back since leaving: “Never once did they ask me to go back.”

“She got very offended when I left. She thought I was leaving because of her,” Philbin said of Ripa, and added, “I was leaving because I was getting older and it wasn’t right for me anymore.”



King proceeded to ask, “She took it personal?”

“Yeah, I think so. That was 11 years ago,” Philbin replied.

“Haven’t heard?” King questioned, to which Philbin responded, “Never have.”





During the LKN interview, Philbin also opened up about missing his hosting duties — and addressed whether he’d ever return to his past occupation.

“I don’t know. How often would it be? Would it be every night? Every day?” Philbin asked King when he was questioned about returning. “I do miss it. There are times when I really miss it and wish I’d never stopped. But, you know, I just figured it was time to let go.”
