On Seinfeld, there was never any indication that Kramer was a racist.

Honestly, I don't think Michael Richards is racist in real life, either. He said some horrible, vile things back in 2006 during that infamous standup show, but those words in the context he said them don't necessarily make him racist; they make him stupid (at least in the moment).

He apologized, and was a good sport when he poked fun at the incident on Curb Your Enthusiasm a few years ago.

Michael Richards made a racist remark when he stand up a few years ago. He used the N word. I forgot why he said but I think he had an argument with somebody in the audience.

That was Michael Richards the person, not Cosmo Kramer the TV character.

He was trying to piss off some hecklers in the audience while simultaneously trying to be edgy. It was totally the wrong way to go about it. He handled it terribly. There are comedians who can handle hecklers beautifully; Michael Richards isn't one of them.

Really, there's no good reason to use racial slurs, though I must admit to laughing at them within the context of the standup comedy of Louis CK. It's all about context and delivery.

Michael Richards, the person, seems like a cool guy, he lost his cool, and tried to turn the tides on a heckler, but went about it the wrong way.

I'm black, I don't care about the word, it has no power over me, so I don't find what he did to be wrong, but people like to be offended, so that's why it turned into a big deal.

Kramer on the other hand, didn't seem to be racist, he was just from another planet. He got along with everyone on the show from blacks, to Asians, to Cubans (Dominicans).
