Exclusive: "The Glee Project" Won't Return for Season 3
by Michael Ausiello
4/8/13
Oxygen is not moving forward with a third season of "The Glee Project", TVLine has learned exclusively.
Although the cable network declined to comment, sources confirm that a number of factors — not the least of which is that "Glee" itself hasn’t been renewed yet — contributed to the decision to shelve the reality spin-off.
Ratings also likely played a part. Despite favorable reviews and a passionate following, the series was a modest performer for Oxygen.
Meanwhile, negotiations to bring "Glee" back for a fifth season continue between Fox and 20th TV.

"The Glee Project" Isn't Canceled, says Oxygen
by Hillary Busis
Apr 9 2013
Has the fat lady sung for Oxygen’s "Glee" tie-in reality show? Not quite.
Yesterday, TVLine cited sources saying that the cable network “will likely be forced to postpone or scrap the next season of The Glee Project,” a talent competition that rewards one (or two, or four) amateurs with an arc on "Glee".
Since "Glee" itself hasn’t yet been renewed for a fifth season, the spin-off’s supposed fate wasn’t a shock.
But according to a spokesperson for Oxygen, "The Glee Project" may yet live to see another season.
“What TVLine reported was speculation,” the rep told EW. “The Glee Project has not been canceled” — or, at least not yet.
Given last year’s ratings, a renewal does seem less than likely: While the show’s first season drew up to 1.27 million viewers in 2011, its second managed just 821,000 at its peak — and four episodes of its 11-episode season failed to attract even 400,000 pairs of eyeballs.

Oxygen Officially Cancels "The Glee Project"
by Michael Slezak
7/16/13
It’s official: Oxygen has decided against ordering a third season of "The Glee Project", the reality competition series that fed the "Glee" mothership with cast members including Blake Jenner, Alex Newell, Samuel Larsen and Damian McGinty.
“The Glee Project will not be returning to Oxygen, but we are extremely proud of this series which launched the careers of several talented individuals,” the network announced. “The show had so much heart and we thank Ryan Murphy and all of the creative talent who helped make the series a critical darling.”
A source close to the show explained that the decision was made “several weeks ago,” and was in no way related to last weekend’s untimely death of "Glee" star Cory Monteith (who’d served as a guest mentor for one episode in Season 2).
TVLine reported in April that "The Glee Project‘s" future was in jeopardy, in part because Fox’s late renewal of "Glee" didn’t leave Oxygen enough time to get a new installment of "The Glee Project" up and running — while still being able to deliver a winning cast member in time to coincide with a fifth season of Fox’s high school musical.
The official cancellation news was first broken by The Hollywood Reporter.

The Oxygen reality spinoff was much better than "Glee" itself.
