View Full Version : America's Funniest Home Videos And 4 Other Shows You Didn't Know Were Still On

Often times, if a TV series is fortunate, it will gain extraordinary popularity in its earlier years. But eventually, the buzz fizzles, the show airs a couple of lower-rated seasons and is inevitably cancelled. Or it finishes out on its own terms and lives on through reruns, Netflix or in the hearts and minds of nostalgic pop culture lovers and TV fanatics. And then there are the shows that just keep going and going (and going. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxafIhYFOr0)) Shows like The Simpsons and CSI, for example. But you know those are on the air, even if you aren't watching them regularly. Others seem to slip through the cracks, returning season after season but no longer receiving the kind of attention or relevance they once had in the public eye.
At one point in time, everyone was talking about Jerry Springer and that funny home video show with the guy from Full House. Water cooler chatter for shows like those may have died down a bit since the 90s, and yet, The Jerry Springer Show is still on the air, as is America's Funniest Home Videos. Those are just two of the listed series you might not realize are still on the air...
icecream 03-26-2013, 09:25 PM It's unfortunate Jerry Springer is still on the air, how that sicko ever got elected mayor is beyond me. As for AFV, it does OK Sundays at 7:00 but I would like to see Once Upon a Time repeats air at 7:00 and AFV move to a different night, it would get ABC regular Saturday night wins. The repeats might do worse than AFV but new episodes of Once do better when it has itself as a lead-in.
Yong Fang 03-27-2013, 06:45 AM The first season or two of Jerry Springer was a very tame talk show, which broached real Oprah like subjects. Unfortunately for Jerry, he isn't Oprah so he came up with this schtick that has worked for him for the past 20 years.
Jerry bores me because it is basically the same show everyday. The show is so heavily "bleeped" that it is almost impossible to follow what anyone says. Also, let the people beat the crap out of each other. They cannot only because of legal constraint.
Another guy is Morey Povich. Just ghetto trash who do not know who their baby's daddy is.

COPS is timeless and it is always interesting to watch people get arrested and all the freaks that the cops encounter. That show has been on for 25 years and the format has not changed one bit and that is really amazing.

I do not understand why America's Funniest Home Videos is on since I can watch videos of goofballs anytime I want online. I think it is a early Sunday night show and probably draws in enough oldies, churchies and kiddies to make it worthwhile.

MTV has been crap since Reagan left office (literally). It's not Music Television, it is "beautful people doing stupid reality crap". The only good thing that has come out of MTV for the past quarter century is Beavis and Butthead (and yes, Daria to an extent). FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!
Neutronman67 03-27-2013, 12:03 PM America's Funniest Home Videos needs to be canceled it was funny back in the 90's with lame Danny Tanner aka Bob Saget but now its just plan awful lol

Oldies and churchies? I assume you're referring to elderly people and church-going people. Haven't heard those terms in that usage before.
Interesting.
Anyway, as it happens, I love "America's Funniest Home Videos"!!! That's one of the best shows still on TV! I don't really care about the other shows in this article though. But AFHV was great with Bob Saget as the host. (And of course, he did great as Danny Tanner on "Full House" at the same time too!)
I'm glad the show is still on- and though I didn't like John Fugelsang and Daisy Fuentes as much (they were okay though)- Tom Bergeron makes a great host! Even with the proliferation of similar videos on Youtube and the Internet at large, I enjoy watching this show with the funny commentary and games they play with the videos. Plus, the show offers the benefit of compiling funny videos that may not be all available on the Internet and that is convenience for fans.
In any case, it's a funny show and I enjoy it and I'm glad it's still on the air.:)
MrCleveland 03-27-2013, 03:31 PM I still watch AFV and it's better with Bergeron than Saget (But Ernest Earle "Ghoulardi" Anderson was a great announcer, so is Jess Harnell).
"COPS" I didn't realize is still on, but then again it's on saturday so no one watches TV then.
Same as "Jerry Springer", but I hate Trash Talk shows. My brother tells me to watch "Maury" it's that "try it, you'll like it" motif...but next to Reality Shows, Trash Talk Shows are a genre that I would like to see disappear!
noveel 03-28-2013, 04:56 AM These shows still on because they're still making $ and are cheap
Neutronman67 03-28-2013, 09:00 AM They need to bring Bob Saget back on America's Funniest Home Videos his corny and unfunny jokes made the show funny itself he actually thought he was funny, they even made a parody joke of him on comedy central's cartoon South Park lol
MacLeaper 03-28-2013, 11:36 AM "COPS" I didn't realize is still on, but then again it's on saturday so no one watches TV then.
I watch TV on Saturdays- lol. That's actually the one day where I have the most time to watch TV as it seems rare that I watch much anymore during the week. Work and being involved with things at church keep me pretty busy...
MacLeaper 03-28-2013, 11:48 AM They need to bring Bob Saget back on America's Funniest Home Videos his corny and unfunny jokes made the show funny itself he actually thought he was funny
It depends on your style of humor. For the jokes that Bob Saget told on "America's Funniest Home Videos", I thought he was hilarious! Of course, I like corny jokes in any case.:)
(For the jokes he tells at comedy clubs, well... I heard a snippet of some in an interview for his roast one time- and wow, yeah those are quite dirty. I don't care for those.)
Neutronman67 03-28-2013, 04:41 PM I like when Bob saget talks with profanity in his comedy show's he had me laughing on the floor hard check out his videos on youtube the man is more funny when he swears, Bob saget does not want people to think of him as Nice Guy aka Danny Tanner his personality is similar to Dustin Diamond who played screech from SBTB they both dont want people to remember them for their past tv dorky characters so they think people will think they are bad guys if they talk dirty lol
gilligan fanatic 03-28-2013, 05:58 PM I never really liked AFHV, it is to "rehearsed" for me. Most of the ones I have seen just seem like they were trying to get on TV
Neutronman67 03-28-2013, 10:37 PM I find it creepy when people film themselves getting hurt then shipping their footage to AFHV to be humiliated on national television.

I'm not sure about Dustin Diamond, but I do know Bob Saget was talking dirty long before doing "Full House"- I'm pretty sure this was one of the reasons he was not the first chosen for the role of Danny Tanner, since his stand-up comic persona is quite different from Danny Tanner. Nonetheless, he made it work and I'm glad because I couldn't picture anyone else in that role.
Neutronman67 04-01-2013, 02:33 PM Yeah Bob Saget was good at pretending to be a square nice dude on Full House, i bet he was thinking to himself this show is full of junk but atleast it paid the bills for him lol
Yong Fang 04-04-2013, 07:19 AM I watched The Wheel of Fortune for the first time in literally 20 years. I am a college English teacher in China, and this week was a short work week and I wanted to have a rest and fun day since it was the day before a 4 day holiday, and happen to see "Wheel of Fortune" and thought that this would be a fun thing for the students to see and we all played and I am going to show it again as a weekly thing.
But I was a bit shocked that this show is still on. I know that it was on, but it is amazing that this show has lasted decade after decade after decade. The set is now really 21st Century and "gleamy". What shocked me was freaking Vanna White. I'm thinking, "How old is this woman?" and found out that she is 56 years old. She looks great which makes me wonder how many times she has been to the plastic doctor. Pat Sajak seems resigned to be Pat Sajak, White and Sajak aren't really that famous anymore, just flesh robots to entertain board people in the last afternoon or after the evening news.
MacLeaper 04-04-2013, 11:54 AM Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! are still some of the best shows on television today! Two of my all time favorite game shows! (along with The Price is Right, but that show is not the same without Bob Barker...)
Mr. Television 04-04-2013, 12:13 PM I was a senior in HS when the syndicated Wheel of Fortune began. I can't believe it's still on.
biffbronson 04-05-2013, 05:33 AM Yes, I thought pretty much everyone knew that shows like Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and AFV are still going strong -- and that Vanna White has had plastic surgery! AFV is still pretty high-profile, as everyone knows Tom Bergeron from DWTS, among other things.
Springer and Povich are still on in many markets as well -- does Maury still have a fetish for chopping off the hair of women who've let theirs get really long?
Neutronman67 04-05-2013, 04:08 PM Wheel of Fortune is a show i would not mind being on i could sure use the million dollars lol
MacLeaper 04-05-2013, 04:28 PM They do have a million dollar slot on the wheel but it is rather hard to win...:) I'm sure we could all always use extra money- haha. It's all good though- God provides for me all the time.

I know Tom Bergeron from America's Funniest Home Videos. lol- I have seen him in a few other things- like I have seen bits of Dancing with the Stars at some point- but I don't really care about watching that show. (Not a big fan of "reality" shows in general.) But then- DWTS is still a LOT better than some of the other junk on TV today.
And for that matter, so are AFHV and Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! amongst others.

God has never given me what I want  , but when it comes to what I Need, he has Never let me down.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/hunterschwarz/nick-news-is-still-on-the-air-can-it-survive
A Nickelodeon representative wouldn't explicitly say that Nick News is its longest-running show, although no other program on the network has regularly been on the air for as many years. In press releases, it regularly refers to the show as the "longest-running kids' news show in television history."
That may be because Nick has slowly cut back on the program, raising the question of how much longer Nick will keep it around. The show doesn't air as frequently anymore — since the early 2000s, it's only been shown 10 times a year instead of twice a month. Last year, the original brick set for Nick News was replaced.
"I think the schedule of once a month is a graveyard," says Hobbs. "A show that isn't airing weekly can't attract an audience." Over the past two years, some episodes have attracted over 600,000 viewers, according to ratings. But some of Nickelodeon's most popular shows regularly get over 3 million viewers per showing.
Hobbs expects Nickelodeon will continue to hold on to Nick News for the time being, however. "I think it's a low-cost show that's connected to Nickelodeon's sense of identity," she says. "The fact it's the longest-running news show for kids, that's the only function it has for Nickelodeon. It's a throwaway so they can say they haven't lost their values." The slow decay of Nick News is a "tremendous loss," Hobbs says. "I don't think the show has had much of an impact on this [current] generation of kids."

Nice. The cool thing is- even though God always provides all our needs (Philippians 4:19)- sometimes He even throws in a few wants as well. (Psalms 37:4- provided those wants are truly in line with His will, of course.):)

The changes to the Jerry Springer Show and the Maury Povich Show says more about the change in taste of their target demographic than Maury and Jerry themselves (who both seem like very intelligent men).
People these days love trash TV.
