My boss had one for 2 months. A stalker following him all over the net trying to make him look bad; throwing insults at him and threatening him. All because my boss made an apposing comment to him on a message board they both frequent.
I mean some people take the net too seriously. Anyway, my boss finally warned him that if he didn't stop, that my boss would locate him and file charges against him. He said to my boss, "Good Luck. It will never happen, but I may find you"

Well 1 week ago, my boss did find him. My boss's nephew is a computer genius and can find people on the web. When my boss sent his troll a message that showed his address and his name and even his age and where he worked, even the kind of car he drove, he immediately apologized and backed off. I hope that never happens to me.

I had been accused as a troll, but it wasn't me...it was them.

OH Nuts!

The very same thing has happened to me on the IMDB. A woman found out my real name, followed me around from Ebay to Facebook and personal blogs, and even posted pictures of what she thought was my home! Meanwhile, she's remained anonymous. At one point, she found my mother's online obituary, took the pictures from it and began posting as my dead mother. How low can you go? I'd love to find out how to identity her. Any suggestions?

She's doing it right now, today! Because the IMDB message boards are going dark, she's upping her attacks. Just this afternoon, she claimed she'd been over here--posted all the appropriate links--and encouraged people to start crapping on me. Is this board monitored? Can someone like her post anonymously?

This board is monitored but you can right click your mouse and google search your image and that is where she got your name I guess.

If I were you I would change your avatar to an anonymous picture right away.

I don't even give out my real location as there are a lot of weirdos out there.

Years ago on these boards someone created a user name similar to mine and posted a bunch of porn to make people think I posted it. Apparently, they actually thought it would get me banned.

It is very scary. And she posts on innocuous boards like The Goldbergs and The Middle, these long, whacked-out diatribes about me, where I supposedly live, my Facebook page and my dead cat, my Ebay account (she posted the link and encouraged people to bid on my auctions and leave me Negatives), and then the dead mother thing. I honestly don't know how anyone could be so low--I mean, there should be a smidgen of decorum. But this woman popped her mental cork in 2014, and she's yet to find it again. Personally, I'm very glad IMDB's message boards will go dark on the 20th, but she's threatening to come HERE and "tell them all" about me. Cripes! Hopefully, this place is moderated!

Yeah I've had a stalker, a few actually. Years ago I used to post on a message board, now defunct, about a rock band. People there would take my photos and stalk me online, "warning" people I was a troll. On one board I actually know several, and they blocked them. On a second board, I had someone find me on Facebook and post my photos on the message board. This is probably the creepiest but for several years on and off I did online dating. I was speaking to this guy on a dating site but he started getting weird. I told him I met someone offline (this is true) and deleted my profile. A year or two later I get a friend request and it was him! Apparently he found my profile from my photo, which I used to use on dating sites (I've since deleted the photo). I deleted this request and he immediately tried to friend me. He kept doing this and sending me messages saying he doesn't know why I'm so mean to him. I didn't respond and blocked him. He was 50, obese, a high school dropout and a janitor and honestly we wouldn't have anything in common so I don't want to lead him on. I realized one of my dating profiles was still online (though no photos or messages or anything) and saw he left a message not long ago. Yes I deleted that profile. I've considered doing online if the man I like isn't interested, but am afraid he'll try again and get weird when I reject him. He got weird when I politely let him down because I did find someone else saying no one wants him, blah blah.

Wow! That's really weird! I guess social media isn't all it's cracked up to be. I gotta wonder what motivates these people to go to such lengths. The woman who's trolling me posts numerous links in every one of her messages. She claims to have saved all my photos and postings in some kind of "photo bucket" folder somewhere. Plus, she's obsessed with "sock puppets" and constantly accuses me of having several...when I only have one account. I can't wait for IMDB to shut down, really. She's made it a miserable experience for me.

It sounds to me that you have a cyber stalker (or hacker) that has hacked into your computer. The reason I say that they have hacked into your computer is because they can follow you from site-to-site. You need to run a security scan (like malwarebytes)

Hi, everybody! Thanks for sharing your very disturbing experiences, which go way past troll and deep into stalker territory!

I have been online for many years and joined Sitcoms Online a few years later. I just came here to see if anyone was talking about the Internet Movie Database Message Boards.

I only had one troll, but it was on a Usenet book discussion forum. When Usenet was no longer a thing and I joined a really great book forum, I had no problems and no reasons to go anywhere else.

For anyone looking for alternative sites to IMDb, of about 40 possibilities, as of now these 4 seem to stand out as the best bets.

Welcome Katinah. I hope you enjoy it here, and I'm sorry to hear that someone is stalking you. I don't think posting your location and using your photo as your avatar is such a great idea, but that's just me.

I'm a Moderator here, and I can help you if anyone bothers you. Just send me a PM or report them. I don't post as often as I used to, but I check in many times a day and always pay attention to reported posts and PMs.

I'm not Janice, but old habits are hard to die....

Go to the top of the page, under the big CHIT CHAT (with the red, blue people on the sides) is a solid blue bar (User CP on left and log out on the right)

Click on the "user cp",
scroll down on the left side until you see "CONTROL PANEL- setting & options"

To change location click on "edit profile"
for "avatar or picture" click on the edits for each

Cyber stalking can get out of control, and in many cases does. I remember reading this case years back when AOL chat rooms were the thing, about a business man from Chicago who got into an argument online in a political chat room with a guy in England about the former PM, Tony Blair. The English guy totally supported Blair and this guy from Chicago was pointing out Blair's faults, which were many, and this Blair supporter completely went psycho on this guy in Chicago, threatening him and warning him he was gonna make his life miserable, and he did. This psycho got this American guys email address and other personal info, including work info, sending lewd and nasty emails to his friends insulting them all, and his family members too, who thought it was this guy in Chicago sending them. Just over a disagreement, this guy in England, made this Chicago guys life hard for several months, and eventually got him fired from his job. The Chicago guy tried to get AOL to do something, and they didn't. He kept riding AOL to get this British guys info for him, but AOL still did nothing, saying this guy in England's had his rights too. Finally, the Chicago guy, sued AOL, won a settlement. He bribed an AOL employee to get this British guys personal info. He checked it over and over to make sure it was the right guy, and it turns out it was, and used that info to find this guy in England. He went to the British guys home, and shot him in the head in front of his wife. The Chicago guy was awaiting trial at the time I read this story, so I don't know what came of it, as I never heard anything about it again. So yes. Cyber stalking can get out of control.

Ouch!

Well, I got a mild case of a cyber stalker on IMDB several years back. There were plenty of trolls on the Michael Jackson board there, but this guy went further than the others: He followed me to several other boards on IMDB, only to annoy me. He harassed me in threads about movies and TV shows, which had nothing to do with whatever I originally had discussed with him... I did my best to ignore him, but he still continued this long enough to make other people sense what was going on. Luckily though, he stopped his shenanigans after a while. (I wonder if his troll posts weren't removed by the administrators too.) And I don't believe that he followed me outside IMDB, thank goodness.

Isn't it so so brave of them top hide behind their computers and harass people? Most times I bet they are nothing more than coward losers that have no life and nothing better to do, and wouldn't have the guts to do anything to your face.

Katinah123

Oh, I definitely agree. Before the IMDB message boards folded, she followed me over here and made fun of the fact that I'd been posting somewhere else. Since then, I've been free of her--the first time in over 6 months!

Indeed. They might call you a loser, but who is the one acting like a bully behind their computer screen?

Unfortunately, I have myself given too many people like that too much of my time over the years. Because I want to defend myself and my opinions, and it often takes me a while to see if I can reason with people or not. But I've had to leave a few forums over the years, when I have come to realize that there's no use in even trying to have a proper conversation with some people.

Of course, I cannot condone the course of action that the Chicago man ultimately took-2 wrongs do not make a right-but in a sense the Englishman was tempting fate when he began attacking the other man, costing him his friends, his family and eventually his job. The poor man apparently just snapped.

And that man was also was a really sick person even by internet troll standard. They all seem to be jerks, who need to get a life doing something other than bullying other people. Most of them can't harm you though if you leave the site and never return. But this person was a dangerous stalker rather than just a nasty but mostly harmless troll.

of having another account on here and using it to troll on here and it
temporarily caused problems between us until you found out it was Wreckless using one of many aliases-I hold no ill will toward you on that account. You were doing a fine job as moderator, like you always do, my friend.
