View Full Version : Inconsistency Help?
Left Coast 02-12-2002, 04:07 PM I seem to recall Frasier addressing the fact that durring a Cheers episode he said his father was dead. He explained that he had a big fight and it was just easier to say he was dead.
But, did they ever explain why in a Cheers episode his Mom shows up and threatens to kill Diane? In the Frasier show His Mom is deceased and she was a real sweet and pretty woman who looks like Rita Wilson.
In the Cheers show, his Mom was an old, pretentious phsychiatrist.
Also, I think durring Cheers, Frasier mentions having a sister.
I was just wondering if they ever explained this in the new show? It seems strange that they would explain his father and not the other inconsistencies.
Just wondering? I used to watch the show but haven't seen the last two seasons.
A few of us discussed this a few weeks ago in one of the Frasier threads.
I vivdly remember the episode where Fraiser's Mom tries to break up him and Diane. I guess back then they had no idea they would spin Frasier off into a long running sitcom.
They also never figured that fans of the show would remember every little character nuance, and later discuss them on websights. Things have changed a lot in twenty years.
Frasier had a sister? Maybe he was mad a Niles that week...
Brian Damage 02-14-2002, 05:48 PM I think Frasier has done an OK job of trying to keep his character consistent. In Frasier, they did mention his first marriage to the kiddie show star(Played on Cheers by Emma Thompson I believe) That episode that had all the women in Frasier's life(Lillith, Diane, wife #1 and Hester Crane) it did point out that Mother Crane did threaten Diane's life. The woman who played Mother Crane on cheers back in 1982(Nancy Marchand) died in real life before that episode of Frasier. That's why they probably chose to use a younger version of Hester Crane. Also in that episode if you remember, his mother appeared to be real sweet but was extremely manipulative(Both on Cheers and Frasier) I don't recall Frasier talking about a sister, however, she might have ran off and married Chuckie Cunningham! :-)
One inconsistency I recall is that on Cheers he owned a beloved dog named Pavlov, and on his own show he hates dogs. ( Well at least in the beginning he did) Other than that he still makes references to Cheers, his son and ex Lillith on a somewhat regular basis.
17Mar59 03-21-2002, 09:54 PM I think it was just Eddie that Frasier hated, considering the way
Eddie messes up Frasier's apartment every time...
Another inconsistency is that in one Cheers episode Frasier tells
Diane he's thinking of firing his receptionist and she reminds him
that she's been working for his family for years.
Also in Frasier his family has been living in Seattle for years,
but on Cheers it appears that their home is actually Boston.
I do believe Frasier DOES mention a sister once.It could be that
he and Niles have a sister they don't talk about;maybe one day
before Frasier ends they'll show her.
btw:I believe Frasier is not the only male character who had
an ex-wife,remember Sam referred at least once to having been
married before.
Brian Damage 03-22-2002, 07:05 PM yes, that is true, Sam was married once before.
Janice 03-27-2002, 12:56 AM Sam's former wife had a brief scene on Cheers. I don't recall its content, but they were sitting at a small table near the entrance of Cheers. That I'm sure of.
For some reason, I want to say it's the episode where they're trying to pretend they just saw a play. Sam wants to impress Diane by being out with a cultured woman, but Diane notices the Playbill is outdated.
I'm not sure if that's the episode, but I'm positive that his former wife appeared on Cheers. I remember Carla telling Diane that the woman is his ex-wife.
Can anyone help me out here?
Brian Damage 03-27-2002, 08:52 AM That episode with Sam pretending to date an educated woman was not the episode about Sam's ex. I honestly can't remember seeing Sam's ex wife. I know she was mentioned, but other than that, it's not ringing a bell. Is it possible you might be mixing up the episode with the one where Frasier's first wife is revealed? Much to the chagrin of his current wife Lillith, who never knew he was married once before?
Janice 03-27-2002, 10:52 AM I'm positive Sam's former wife made a quick appearance. Either that or I had the most realistic dream imaginable. I'll post it on the Cheers board and hopefully I'll find out. :)

This is very true, yet here we doing that very thing, lol.
The other night on Cheers, Frasier not only said his father was dead, but that he was a scientist. He said his father was dead in a way that....well you could tell he meant it.
Dr. Lilith Sternin 04-20-2002, 07:57 PM JanLady was correct about Sam's wife. Donna McKechnie played her. She wasn't introduced as his ex-wife, but after she left, Carla told them that she was Sam's first wife.
Jan, you're not losing your mind!!! :happyface
