Columbia Pictures is looking to bring a version of 1970s TV hit Good Times to the big screen, The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/) has confirmed.
The CBS series ran from 1974 to 1979 and starred Jimmie Walker, Esther Rolle and a young Janet Jackson. Walker was known for a number of catchphrases including his trademark "Dy-no-mite!"
Scott Rudin and Eli Bush are producing the Good Times film, while Phil Johnston is onboard to write.
The studio, which scored with a film remake of 1970s hit TV series Charlie's Angels, has been trying to mount big-screen versions of other titles it owns from the era, including I Dream of Jeannie and Fantasy Island.

Great, I hope they bring all the main characters, The Evans Family, Ned The Wino, Bookman, Penny, Keith, all the MAIN characters as regulars...

Wow that sounds great to have the original people who did this show in the 70's only problem is they would all be in their 50's 60's 70's and 80's now in this generation, they should update this show JJ Michael and Thelma are all grown up now with kids and grandkids it would make a decent tv show.

If any of the original cast members are signed for this they'll probably be minor or cameo roles. Question is, who would you cast in the roles?

My choices:

James Evans - Reginald VelJohnson
Florida Evans - CCH Pounder
JJ Evans - Jaleel White
Thelma Evans - Lark Voorhies
Michael Evans - Jaden Smith
Nathan Bookman - Forrest Whitaker
Willona Woods - S. Epatha Merkerson
Ned the Wino - Morgan Freeman

John Amos is almost 74, he's too old to play James Evans.

Yes that is right the only people who should make cameos on the new movie is Jimmy Walker,Ralph Carter,Ja'net DuBois and they should do it now while they are still alive and before they get really old cause they are up their in age,They would have to find Regular Black People who look exactly like the characters from GT not only that but they have to be good actors, cause if the acting is bad the film is going to bomb big time.

Like the Brady Bunch movie. That was a good movie and there were no widely known actors except for Shelley Long.

No The movie would be mostly be about JJ and his wife and family living in the suburbs in chicago he is a successful painter his wife and kids are whacky just like him they all walk around saying Dynomite ofcourse people in 2013 would think their strange for using 70's slang words, the second choice for a GT movie it would be like the brady bunch movies find new people to play the evans they dress in 70's clothing, use 70's slang words they would be considered outcasts in this generation in the year 2013.

Hmm, not sure I see the point of it. I like Good Times and all, but I would think there are a lot more popular shows to be made into a TV movie, why Good Times?

because it was "realistic comedy back in the 70"s that poor people could relate and laugh about it, today shows are the rich people who are fake with nothing but platic surgery, botox, breast implants, alcoholics and fake wigs        Real true rich people can't relate to that

That's what i want to know, especially since the show only had 3 seasons

It had 6 seasons.

I don't like the idea of a Good Times movie. Hollywood is really running out of ideas. They want to turn every classic series either into a poor imitation modern movie or a revised modern series. It always degrades the legacy of the original.

Only 3 seasons that mattered

Yeah, it would be stupid to have the movie after James death, making it even more pointless

I was so excited when the Three's Company docu/drama aired and then I saw it and was like "that really sucked".

I don't know if you ever saw Return to the Batcave, the Batman tv movie special, but that was pretty good, a lot better than those "Behind the Camera" specials.

I don't know what the nature of this movie will be, but I guess I should point out that I wouldn't mind seeing a "what happened behind the scenes" type of movie as long as it's acurate. It would be a lot better than the type of movie that I was talking about in my previous post.

If they wanted to be tongue-in-cheek, they could have Janet Jackson play Willona.

They should just reboot the series with a new cast of black people all they need is people who can act and a good storyline plot and bingo the show could be a huge success.
