I've been hearing a commercial on the radio about a "vitamine" or a DRUG or something called Grow Tall that parents can give their kids that supposedly increases their heigth.

I think really this is horrible. It's a little creepy too b/c it's like we're moving toward a society like in that Twilight Zone episode where EVERYONE has to look IDENTICAL.

I think it's good to have some variety, see some tall ppl and some short ppl. And to teach kids to appreciate their uniquness and individuality.

Now when the child gets OLDER if there are things about their body they'd like to change that's fine, but to impose that onto them when they are young before they can even make a decision just to ensure they grow up to look like everyone else is just wrong I think, what if they don't want to be tall?

Plus it messes with nature I think and could cause problems.

I think it should be illegal to give kids stuff like that.

Why is being tall preferable to being short anyway?

I just think it's wrong to give kids DRUGS to ensure everyone grows up to be the same heigth. It's almost like making a master race or something.

If this is a DRUG that we're talking about, we might as well be talking about other un-natural stuff like botox or plastic surgery. And parents who give their children DRUGS to make them taller should be charged with child abuse. BUT if this is just a vitamin, then that's an entirely different story.

I agree.

And I'm just kinda against ANYTHING that strives to make a person LOOK a certain way, or grow into a certain physical LOOK.

Now if it's something the child WANTS when he or she gets older, that's different.

Very true. The parents should wait until the child turns 18 so he or she can make up their own mind.

That drug will only come in handy if you're putting together a basketball team.

As with most drugs, it won't be long before this "wonder" drug ends up on one of those 1-800-BAD-DRUG commercials sponsored by the settlement attorneys.

That reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTCcrXf2buQ

Some kids don't get the essential vitamins they need so I don't see the harm in a vitamin supplement like the one in the youtube video.

I think the only time something like that should be given is if it's physically healthy for the child. And I don't really see that there's anything physically unhealthy about being SHORT.

The feel I'm getting is that this vitamine/drug is being given to specifically make kids TALLER, b/c "being tall is better than being short" in our culture.

If there was a vitamine that makes your heart, liver, lungs, etc.. stronger, I'd be all for something like that, but something to make you taller just doesn't sounds right. I see no health benefits to being taller, other than "being taller LOOKS better than being short" and that's the problem I have with it.

I have to say though, that while it might not be unhealthy to be short, I can understand that many kids would want to grow taller, especially if they feel that they're shorter than most other kids their age.

Star Trek TOS

Spock displaying complete illogic directed at 2 androids that look identical. "I like you," he says as he points at the one. "However, I hate you," he says at he points at the other.

The 2nd android responds in confusion. "But how can you hate me? I am in every way identical to Alice #?"

"Yes," Spock replies. "That is exactly why I hate you. Because you look just like her."

I think we should try, rather, to change the way society thinks and looks at things.

I mean why would being shorter than the other kids ones age be any worse than being TALLER than the other kids ones age? But if someone is the tallest kid in the class that's usually looked at as a good thing.

Well, it can be the other way around too. Especially for girls, it's not always that fun being the tallest either.

I for one have always wanted to be short, I AM pretty short but always wanted to be short, as weird as it may sound, lol But I'm trying not to use that as a biast on this drug or whatever.

I just think any drug is wrong to give a young child that tries to ensure they LOOK a certain way when they grow up.

I understand what you mean. But I personally had daily injections of growth hormon for six years, because I have Turner's syndrome and didn't grow properly on my own. And even though it wasn't fun at the time, I don't regret that we did it. I'm now almost average height for a Swedish woman, while I could have been several inches shorter, if I hadn't taken those injections back then. Some times it's not about becoming a super human, but about not becoming a midget.

Hey, when you're shorter than other kids your age, you're more prone to being victimized by kids who are bigger than you. And if you don't look your age that makes it even worse.

I'm just a 1/2 inch shy of six feet, which I find a little disappointing, but I can live with it. While I may not be able to fit in the driver's seats of cars that get the best gas mileage, I'd take my current height over being as small as I was when I was a kid anytime.

But I think instead of putting all that time and effort into making a pill that makes you GROW, we should putting it into anti-bullying and things like that, where ppl will know IF they bully someone b/c they or short or different they will have a hell of a penalty to pay.

To me that is like saying, women are more likely to be victimized by men, such as being battered wives and things like that, so when someone gets pregnant, they should take a pill to increase the probablity they will have a BOY instead of a girl, since males are the stronger sex, they will be less likely to be victimized.

These "Grow Tall" pills = Certified Steroids.

It would be even worse if a pill were invented to shrink a person's physical frame. Now, that would be insane and unreal.

What would happen if somebody were or wants to be proud of being different from everybody else, yet they still get bullied regardless?

I think as ppl get older they WILL apprecialte being different. I'm just against a pill that strives to make everyone the SAME.

And being short shouldn't be looked at as the worse thing in the world. To ME a pill to make you grow tall is just as insane as a pill to shrink you.

What makes you think the growth pill will make everyone the same? Even if it did help a child grow it's no sign that all those that take it will grow to the same height.

OK GGW, that has NOTHING to do with the issue we're talking about, you're not giving any imput on the subject, so it's useless clutter. Unlike IMDB where ANYTHING goes and you can get away with your BS, I WILL report your butt here!

You've been warned!

It's in the name "Grow Tall", it's goal is to make kids grow.........TALL.

The name of the pill is NOT "Grow to all different heights".

Why not just let children grow to WHATEVER heigth they are naturally going to be? Instead of influenzing it with a PILL at all?
