Regis Joins "View" Style Sports Panel Show

Regis Philbin is coming back to daily TV and re-uniting with the producer who made him a prime-time fortune, "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" producer Michael Davies.

Regis will become the Barbara Walters figure on a sports panel show fashioned after "The View" set to debut in August, sources tell The Post.

The show will be the centerpiece of a new channel, Fox Sports 1, which is expected to be officially announced tomorrow.






Davies, who is British, is the successful reality show producer of such shows as Bravo’s late-night talk show "Watch What Happens Live", "Wife Swap" and ESPN’s "2 Minute Drill".

He lists himself as a fan of Chelsea in the English Premiere soccer league.

Fox Sports 1 is replacing the Fox-owned Speed channel on cable. It is owed by News Corp., which also owns The Post.





Regis, now 81, has made no secret of being restless since leaving his morning show, "Live! with Regis and Kelly", last year.

He even briefly considered a return to "Millionaire" when Meredith Vieira announced she was quitting at the end of this season.





UPDATE: Philbin appeared on "The View" Monday and preempted his Tuesday announcement by revealing some details about the new show.

"Fox is starting a sports channel. Everybody is starting a sports channel now, you know, nothing but 24-hours of sports ... So Regis is going to have a show on that," he said.

Regis Philbin To Host Fox Sports Cable Show -- UPDATE

The Fox Sports Media Group officially announced at its upfront presentation today that it’s launching a new national sports network called Fox Sports 1. Like OWN before it, the new venture won’t require an entirely new channel; instead, Fox is transforming the existing Speed cable channel into FS1, which will allow the nascent net to be available in over 90 million homes.

FS1 debuts on Aug. 17 and features a schedule stocked with live events — including college basketball, college football, NASCAR, soccer, and UFC — as well as Fox Sports Live news coverage and original programs such as "Rush Hour", a panel show hosted by Regis Philbin, and "Fox Football Daily", an extension of Fox’s NFL Sunday pregame show hosted by personalities including Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Jay Glazer, Gus Johnson, Erin Andrews, and Mike Pereira.

The documentary franchise "Being" will also appear on FS1 this fall, beginning with an episode that takes an in-depth look at Mike Tyson.



“Our ‘secret,’ admittedly a very poorly kept one, is now revealed,” FSMG co-president and COO Eric Shanks said in astatement.

“Fans are ready for an alternative to the establishment, and our goal for FS1 is to provide the best in-game experience possible, complemented by informative news, entertaining studio shows and provocative original programming.”
