I Soo agree with you. This has bothered me for years. It's like the were treating Janet like a mere supporting character right from the outset of the series

The intro that was originally written for her wasn't used. The little boy that runs to pet the goat is John's son, Jason. He ran into the shot and they thought it was so cute that they kept that moment instead. That's why the others look more scripted and are looking directly into the camera whereas she isn't.
