Do you think All In The Family would have been in cancellation if Archie called George Jefferson the N word ?

No I don't because that show was all about the "shock" factor and it was controversial anyway. Look at how Archie used the term gooks, chinks and other colorful terms for the orientals.

This thread makes me smile as I recall the time Archie and Edith were invited to Lionel's in laws party and the fact that they were a bi-racial couple was presented. Archie overheard George use the "N" word....and said "Now THERE"S a word I haven't used in 3 years!" Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha . . .. . .

I was wondering,

How much of the N-Word is edited out of syndicated prints of AITF? How much racial language is cut compared to the DVD's? I don't have much information on this, and don't have the DVD's but I heard that syndication edits "The First and Last Supper" (Season 1) for racial slurs.

I think they could have had Archie use an example and uses the N word to describe something to Lionel,Lionel would not have been offended hearing Archie say a racist word towards black people he had that i dont care attitude about him for some odd reason lol

I think CBS would have been too scared to have Archie say the N-word especially since the NAACP would have probably gotten the show cancelled:lol:

The "N" word on tv from a white guy?Not a snowball's chance in hell of even getting by standards and practices unless MAYBE if were a very serious drama about slavery days.Even then,it would almost certainly would derive quite a firestorm from special interest African-American anti-defamation organizations.

A white klu klux klan called george a N*gger in a season 8 episode of the Jeffersons

Carroll O'Connor would have gotten death threats from people all over the world saying he is a racist for calling a black guest character a N word on National Television a racist profanity word not only that but he would have gotten beaten up by angry black men it would have made the biggest controversy in TV history more then the 1970's mini series Roots.

And that was from Sammy Davis Jr. "If you were prejudiced, Archie, when I came into your home, you would have called me a coon or a ******. But you didn't say that, I heard you clear as a bell. You came right out clear as a bell, right straight out--colored." Archie: "Yeah, that's what I done all right."

Using the word to just reference what other people say is a whole lot different than saying it as an insult. Archie wasn't using the word in any other way than to reference what others say.

No it proves that you've never watched AITF because I'm 100% positive Archie said ni**er. How are you gonna try to school me about one of my fav sitcoms? LOL. YOU must have watched the TvLand version where they cut it out. Watch the episode "Two's a Crowd."

Ok I remember they had him utter the word once in the later seasons when he was talking about his childhood. It wasn't a situation where he said it while expressing his dislike for blacks.

He said it to explain why he was beat up by a black kid.

Sol said that Archie NEVER said Ni**er. I said that Archie did say the word. So the fact and the truth is that Archie did say the word. The argument is not whether or not Archie called anyone a ni**er.

Yes, but he was drunk, and said it within a regretful context, but he never said it in anger to Jefferson. Edith said that he used to say "coon", and even at that Archie was embarrassed.

And that's why it was hard to remember him saying it
