View Full Version : Petition to get Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix?
Hasho 02-28-2013, 02:41 PM Hi y'all.
Do you think it could be done? Maybe if we mass-mail the UM creators, or Lifetime? It would be so amazing!
Charlie99909 03-01-2013, 07:37 AM That would be amazing! There's a lot of shows that haven't made it to DVD on Netflix, hmmm.
Hi y'all.

I'm sure that Netflix would have the final say on whether to include UM on their web site. Therefore, contacting Netflix would make more sense.
1990 UM fan 03-01-2013, 02:25 PM I don't even use Netflix or know how to. I'd rather have it on the popular video site or full seasons on DVD.
amandab1234 03-01-2013, 06:18 PM That’s funny cause as soon as I had access to Netflix (my friend lets me use his login) I searched for UM! I would def love to be part of the “Get UM on Netflix” movement lol
Spark Of Spirit 03-05-2013, 06:35 PM Hopefully on the Canadian Netflix, too! I would honestly watch if it was made available.
TracyLynnS 03-05-2013, 08:14 PM In a couple weeks, I"m getting rid of cable ($160/mo for 2 tvs and internet! I need to save money) and getting netflix. I'm gonna miss seeing The Walking Dead but it would be great if CM would put UM on Netflix! I never get tired of watching UM eppies. :)
luismann 03-07-2013, 03:54 PM So how do we go about this? Does anyone know who we contact to try and get UM on netflix or for them to release more Dvds? There's still interest COSGROVE/MEURER PRODCUTIONS!!!

As I suggested earlier, contacting Netflix is the best bet, as they would have the final say on whether to include UM. I would strongly advise sending them snail mail, because physical letters have more influence than emails.
Write to:
Netflix Inc.
100 Winchester Circle
Los Gatos, CA 95032
As for releasing more UM DVDs, a distributor - not CM - can make that decision. For that reason, you'll have to write to prospective distributors about it.

It would be great to see some of the episodes online and in decent quality when all we have been able to see is whatever we watched when the episodes aired and/or VHS quality materials.
With how the previous DVD releases fared, I would guess you would have more luck getting them online as I can't see what distributor would touch them since they need to make their money back + profit on production runs - although if they would do the sensible thing and release the actual seasons of UM instead of compilations sorted by subject matter they would have a whole lot more success.
Hasho 04-30-2013, 10:47 AM I just spoke to a guy at Netflix customer service, and he said they are looking into getting UM on netflix!
Here's how you can contribute (if you have netflix)
Go to https://contactus.netflix.com/Help at the bottom go to LIVE CHAT, simply tell the person how much you love UM and want it on Netflix.
TheCars1986 04-30-2013, 01:25 PM While it's encouraging to hea that netflix is looking into getting UM on their site, I have no doubt (if it does happen) that it will be the Farina version.
everybodylovesrs 05-01-2013, 07:51 PM While it's encouraging to hea that netflix is looking into getting UM on their site, I have no doubt (if it does happen) that it will be the Farina version.
I doubt it will. Just because someone says "Thanks for the suggestion" doesn't mean they're actually going to look into it, and if so, accomplish anything.
Hasho 05-01-2013, 08:00 PM Well, they didn't actually say "thanks for the suggestion", but they said we are already looking into it.
biscuitgirl 05-02-2013, 04:16 PM If they got UM on Netflix (Stack, not Farina version), I'd totally pee my pants. They have all of those ID shows, why not UM?
amandab1234 05-02-2013, 05:23 PM They actually had a UM marathon on Lifetime yesterday. It was the Farina version and I dosed off so that pretty much tells you what my reaction is if Netflix decides to use his episodes instead of the great Mr.Stack..
amandab1234 05-02-2013, 05:24 PM Farina just isnt the right fit for that show. We were spoiled to have Stack hosting for so many years.
Putting them on Netflix would actually make pretty good financial sense. More sense then coming out with DVD sets at least for now.
nicoge21 05-05-2013, 09:38 PM Do the master tapes still exist for the original robert stack shows? Someone please tell me they are kept safe in a vault somewhere. If there are concerns about getting permission from victims/families to redistribute their specific segments, perhaps they can only put the still-unsolved cases on DVD's and lay the solved cases to rest. Like everything else in the business world, everything is run by supply and demand. Most companies won't waste their time producing something unless there is a strong market for it.

I agree with you there.

God I hope so
mysterywriter 05-06-2013, 10:36 AM Not everyone has or wants to use Netflix .I would petition Cosgrove/Meurer to release the Stack first years on digital download from your favorite retailer. On Netflix or Hulu Plus all paid versions .
Hasho 05-30-2013, 03:46 PM In the meantime, I have some links to watching UM on other sites. PM me.
Hasho 06-03-2013, 10:19 AM Btw, Netflix says that UM is their most demanded tv show :)
TracyLynnS 06-03-2013, 01:36 PM Btw, Netflix says that UM is their most demanded tv show :)
Wow! I'm kind of surprised. I thought that maybe there were just a few of us diehard fanatics out there but if it's their most demanded show, there must be a whole lot more UM fans than I realized.
IMO, now's a good time for CM to capitalize on the current popularity of 80s/90s retro. People who were kids back then are really into the nostalgia of those decades and UM is a good TV show that represents the era. It seems that hearing the UM theme music brings back those memories for the people who are big fans of 80s/90s stuff.
Hasho 06-03-2013, 04:39 PM Yup, they said it'll be on Netflix as soon as the recording company allows Netflix to do it. Their customer service worker also said that people are specifically asking for the Robert Stacks version! lol!
Just saw "Goosebumps" is on Netflix now.. Nostalgia nostalgia. Hopefully UM will be there soon.
Spark Of Spirit 06-03-2013, 07:16 PM Here's hoping for Canadian Netflix, too! We're missing a lot of stuff you guys have like King Of The Hill that I would really like to have.
kinghere1 06-03-2013, 08:02 PM Guys it really works! I chatted with someone on Netflix my chat log is below. We need to tell everyone and their brother to go to the live chat section and do this!!!
Netflix Mike
Hey this is Mike, how can we help you today?
7 minutes ago You
Hi I want to voice my opinion as a long time customer to kindly ask Netflix to consider getting the TV show Unsolved Mysteries available on instant viewing.
How can I do that?
7 minutes ago Netflix Mike
Ah, GREAT show! I can help you with that, who am I speaking with today?

So, what I can do for you, is take your information and send that along with that show to my title acquisition team. That way not only do they know you want it. Your voice also heard heard!
4 minutes ago You
Okay, I am signed in as we type so is my info showing up?
4 minutes ago Netflix Mike
Yes, I do have your account up!
3 minutes ago You
make sure it is the Robert Stack seasons which ran from 88 to about 96 I think. NOT the new ones that ran on Spike Tv from 2001 to 2010.
3 minutes ago Netflix Mike
Gotcha, I totally understand. He was awesome. Was there anything else I could help you with today?
2 minutes ago You
No thats it, have there been lots of requests for this?
2 minutes ago Netflix Mike
Actually, you are the first I have had for that show.
33 seconds ago You
thanks for your help.
TracyLynnS 06-04-2013, 10:23 AM Very nifty!
When I recently moved, I did not get cable or satellite TV in order to save money. My daughter and son in law have never had pay tv and use netflix.
Getting netflix service has been in my plans since before the move. Right now I'm using DVDs for movies and some tv shows like Dead Like Me, season 1 & 2 of The Walking Dead, and Invader Zim; Xbox for the recent Walking Dead eppies; and YouKnowWhatTube for the internet only program Good Mythical Morning/The Mythical show, which my son kinda got me hooked on. lol
I really, really, really, really, hope they are able to work out a deal and get the Stack version of UM on Netflix.
mozartpc27 06-04-2013, 11:07 AM This is a great idea, far more plausible than getting full season DVDs out. Where do I sign?
Hasho 06-04-2013, 11:08 AM Here's hoping for Canadian Netflix, too! We're missing a lot of stuff you guys have like King Of The Hill that I would really like to have.
You should use unblock.us, pay couple of dollars a month and get the US version of Netflix :)
Btw, Netflix says that UM is their most demanded tv show :)
If that's true, then it sounds promising. I suggest keeping that momentum going, because if it dies down too soon, so will any hope of UM appearing on Netflix.
On this thread, I recently posted Netflix's mailing address, since physical letters generally have more impact than either phone calls or emails. Even if you have already written to Netflix, I suggest writing to them again, maybe every four to six weeks. That way, the company doesn't think you have given up.

I still have a feeling that if it does come to Netflix, it will be the Farina style episodes.

In that case, it would be wise to state clearly to Netflix that you want them to carry the Robert Stack episodes. Even if they decline that suggestion in favor of the Dennis Farina version, then at least you tried. But whatever you do, focus on the positive, not on the negative.

I wasn't being negative, just stating what I think would be the obvious if it did come to netflix. Just didn't want people to get their hopes up about the Stack episodes. Unless Netflix did the show per season with Stack and Farina. That would be cool.

I understand where you are coming from. It almost seems to good to be true that the stack episodes would be shown. But I agree with Kane. At the end of the day everyone wants the stack episodes and hopefully he'll will freeze over and something new will be released.
Calliope68 06-07-2013, 04:28 PM I can't find anyplace to watch it! I've looked online but no place I've looked has any links. I did catch a few episodes last Sat. morning(hope its on again tomorrow too!). Anybody know how we can watch it? Guess I might have to start buying the DVD's as I get the money. But I have read here not all episodes are available on them. Oh well at least I can see some of them

I actually realized that, but I wasn't implying that you were. I was merely offering the tip to anyone considering contacting Netflix about carrying UM, especially since there are right things and wrong things to do.
This forum has contained its share of posts with gripes related to the frustration about the absence of UM, as well as frustrations with Cosgrove/Meruer. So I offered the general rule of being positive instead of negative in contacting Netflix (or anyone else for that matter) about UM so that, hopefully, no one says something they later wish they hadn't said.
I am reminded of the scene in the movie To Live and Die in LA, where William Petersen's character goes to the judge to make a request, only to have his request denied. He then gets so frustrated that he shoots his mouth off, at which point the judge says, "Don't say something you'll regret later."
That's a good rule of thumb. As frustrated as many of us are about not having UM available, we don't want to take our frustrations out on anyone, let alone a company to whom you are making your appeal.

Excellent point.
mikewho 06-08-2013, 06:13 PM I would love for all the seasons to be available to rent/buy/stream etc. I bought the box sets but they still only cover a small part of the unsolved episodes. Maybe the producers will make it happen

This would be the best way to please UM fans. If they did get the show to netflix and they did all of the Stack seasons, and then the seasons with Farina with updates on some of the older cases.

My biggest concern about getting the Stack episodes over the Farina episodes would be Farina's contract for the show. Most likely, when they hired him to do host the new version, they probably had to promise to use his episodes for a certain length of time. Hopefully that would only apply only to TV broadcasts and not a media release like Netflix though.

I've never used a signature line here at SO before but I thought I'd make one similar to yours while the petition is up.
I thought I did everything correctly, and I can see the signature line when I preview it, but it's not showing up in any of my posts. I also went through to make sure I had the correct box checked to "show signatures".
Any advice on how to get my siggy to show up? Thanks. :)

Not sure if this is a standard response, but the fact UM is producing brand new clips on Youtube is a good sign that they are aware of continued interest in the show.
TracyLynnS 09-08-2014, 05:02 PM 545 signatures as of today :)
UM_FAN_79 09-08-2014, 05:22 PM This was slightly encouraging, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on it. Let's keep the pressure on these folks and maybe…just maybe…they will eventually do it.

I have been pushing this petition to as many people as I possibly can, but I really want to stress that contacting live chat (or Twitter) and asking about Unsolved Mysteries would really help.
I'd go nuts if the RS versions, all seasons and episodes and in order ended up on Netflix.
xxxxmattxxxx69 03-23-2015, 11:51 PM Especially if the RS episodes were updated from the ones that were resolved after he died
Tap Dancer 03-25-2015, 09:25 AM I'd go nuts if the RS versions, all seasons and episodes and in order ended up on Netflix.
That would be amazing! :D I don't understand why Lifetime doesn't air Robert Stack's episodes anymore. Aren't both versions (RS and DF) owned by the same company? I'm sure it somehow comes down to money, as most things do, but it still doesn't make sense if the same company owns Unsolved Mysteries.
everybodylovesrs 05-15-2016, 04:44 AM I'm guessing nothing happened with this.
I was too hard on Farina. He was just working with what Cosgrove gave him. They were behind the ****ty production. After watching his great work on L&O I realize what a talent he was.
DALLASTEXAN!! 05-15-2016, 07:37 AM Idk but animaniacs just got netflixed. Not a hater at all but wth...
It would be nice to have this on Netflix so that I could watch anywhere. I've come to the conclusion that it will never happen. They show UM 3 times a day on a local channel back home in DFW now that I conveniently moved away.
