View Full Version : Guess this was a sign that the contract dispute was not over between Gary Coleman
TVFactFan 02-27-2013, 11:11 PM In the episode..."Hello Daddy" Gary Coleman had a very small role and was only seen in the very beginning and at the very end. At the end he was doing a phone scene with Willis and when willis told him he always had a Korean brother we never hear Arnold say........."what u talkin about willis?
Instead Willis starts laughing and mr. Drummond says..."what did he say" and that's when Willis say's Gary Coleman's famous phrase.
So I guess Gary Coleman wasn't saying anything until those dollars was correct:lol:
*ROGER* 02-27-2013, 11:15 PM Gary knew what he was doing when he was withholding his famous catch phrase of "what you talkin' 'bout..."

It took me a minute to realize that when Willis said it instead of Arnold:lol:
I just knew Arnold was about to say the phrase.

Gary must have refused to say it, so they had to give the line to Todd instead.

Yup, I have a book about season 4 of different strokes with the Gary Coleman dispute
I will post some facts about it tomorrow
ThomasE 03-07-2013, 03:45 PM I'll just best that Gary later filmed that tag scene after the dispute and then it was inserted into the episode. I saw it last week on Antenna and wondered about that. I think originally they had Willis give the line because Gary was not there to film the episode. When he returned they put his tag scene in there.
icecream 03-07-2013, 04:51 PM There was one episode Gary Coleman wasn't in at all, when Willis didn't make the basketball team because they needed a white player.

Do you still plan on doing this? I'd be interested in reading some tidbits from the book.

It was the same season, season 4. Tootie was in the episode in place of Arnold

Same thing with the "First Day Blues" episode. Maybe there were some others too.
EccentricGenius 02-03-2016, 12:47 AM Yeah, I did find that peculiar, TVFactFan...I was surprised that Gary didn't utter his famous catchphrase in that episode; instead, Todd did the honors. Gary also appeared briefly in "The Ski Weekend," at the beginning and in a tag sequence with Todd at the end (he's wearing a straw hat and overalls; Arnold was vacationing with Adelaide at her sister's farm).

That's when I knew the contract dispute was still on
