It's the part where Greg and Bobby get home from the drive-in in the classic "Chin Up Bet" contest episode! Mike asks Bobby what he learned, and Bobby says:

1.) "I'll never bet on anything again. Even if you win you lose."

2.) "If I have to boss anybody around, I'll never be mean."

Mike says, "Is that all?"

Bobby has a GREAT third line:

3.) "Oh yea! The most important thing! If you ever go to a drive-in movie in a convertible, NEVER take an umbrella!" LOL!

Carol laughs, but Mike shows no emotion at all and even looks away in disgust. I mean I respect Robert for keeping realism in the show, but that third line is VERY FUNNY! I could see Robert during filming:

"Oh that line is so moronic!" Maybe he had one of his anger moments and wanted something more serious for Bobby's third thing he learned. Maybe Sherwood and the crew refused to change it. (And I would agree with the line as it exists.) Who (besides Robert Reed on a PO day), would not think Bobby's third reason is humorous?

There's no slapstick in that scene or line, so I think Reed's reactions were not reasonable.

I 'll have to watch this one again and take a closer look at Mike. I think the line is fine, there is nothing wrong with a little humor. This mishap was not the end of the world or overly serious. Since Bobby first stated two things that he learned that were credible, the humorous last line is funny, it works and it is appropriate.

I think I remember reading that Robert Reed did not have much of a sense of humor.

Hallmark played this episode today. Mike was in an annoyed mood to begin with and I really don't think that Bobby's line was all that funny anyway. I don't think Mike's lack of emotion to Bobby's line is a big deal at all.

In the episode "Law and Disorder", Bobby decided to wash his clothes, when he's the only one home. This episode ended the same way, .......oh yeah the most important thing (he learned), never use a whole box of detergent to wash one load of clothes.

Yes, Mike was angry at the car damage, so the "realism" of the scene was very good. Several sources have said Robert Reed did not have a sense of humor.

There were a number of occasions in which one of the Brady kids learns a "lesson". And, at the end of some of those episodes, the kid who learned the lesson explains to Mike and Carol what lessons they learned. The first two lessons are always serious ones, then there's a pause, and Mike (or Carol) inevitably says "Is that all?"... and then the kid will mention the third "lesson" (after the obligatory "Oh yeah, I almost forgot the most important one... ") , which of course is always meant to be humorous.

I'm unsure of the chronology of those "three lessons" episodes, but maybe Reed was getting tired of that being a running gag, and maybe the "Big Bet" tag scene was the last straw for Reed re: that type of a gag.
