Remember the episode where James thought he had the job in the bag and he took Florida with him and they ended up hiring her? She admitted to her boss that "she all but told him that the job was his"

Really? Before everything was finalized and a offer letter was mailed? I think that should have been grounds for termination for getting James hopes up and to only have him disappointed since her boss had not gave her the ok to go ahead and hire him.

Then on top of that she tells her boss........"I just can't go in there he doesn't have the job" Her A$$ should have been CANNED:lol:

Even with the job I was hired for the lady never told me I was hired until she got the ok from her boss:lol:

How could Mrs. Garrett get fired when "her" boss was the decision maker on who to hire or not legally or illegally?

Ms. Garret was caught in the middle and had no power to overrule it. Her boss and the department store were doing very underhanded stuff. If James knew that, he could have had a case.

Because she made James think he had the Job when she didn't get the oK from her boss.

The job I got in December, the lady did a good job in making me think I was the only candidate but never told me the job was mine until everything was final

Ms Garrett should have remained neutral until she got the OK from her boss to hire James. You can't get people's hopes up and make them think they got the job.

I guess the scene with james meeting her for the 1st time is on the CBS version:lol:

You didn't pay attention to the episode. James did have the job until Ms. Garrett boss came along and saw James and Flo sitting in Ms. Garrett's office.

Well if that was true he would have had a verbal offer followed by a letter. She still had to report her decision to her boss before she got the ok to hire him.

She wanted to hire him but didn't have the final say

No she didn't. If she was the HR she had the right the hire James without her bosses permission, that is her job. Her boss butted in, James should have called the corporate office.

What's even more messed up about the situation is Florida never applied for a job. She just showed up to support James.

This exact same thing happened to me a few years ago. A dear, close friend asked me to go along with her to interview for a good job. She wanted me there for moral support since I was one of her closest friends. As it turns out, the interview was held in the same room the applicants were all waiting in (at the same time - sort of like a group interview)....and I was there; the interviewer asked me questions directly at a few points and ultimately decided that of those present I was best for the job. Go Figure.

The moral of your story and the Good Times episode, Don't take anyone with you to a job interview:lol:

Employers make people think that they have the job everyday; however if it is NOT official regarding non submitted paperwork, finger prints, drug test, then the job is NOT officially confirmed.

 That was whack!

Florida could have been a deaf/mute person and they would have hired her simply because she was black. LOL

How many people are turned away from jobs BECAUSE they are black? And here is Florida, a black woman, who didn't even apply, getting a job.

I would never accept a job because I'm black and Florida and James should have walked out of that office and said goodbye LOL

Being realistic, with the Evans family struggling in the projects with NO money a family of 5, did you really think between either James or Florida who could do the job would NOT accept a job offer at all by turning down a job because they were black?

Exactly. All they talked about was how bad the economy was, food prices, the unemployment rate and such, there is no way either one of them would turn down a decent, honest job considering they were already struggling.

Remember the episode when Thelma did not want to go to that college because she would have been that token black student in the sorority. Who the hell cares? Screw the sorority, it wasn't a requirement to join a sorority in order for the scholarship to pay for her tuition.

But if James had somewhere else to go and fall back on why did Florida have to accept the job when she ended up being let go anyway?

Yeah because people were spending as much as money. That's why I always say that people should not celebrate getting a new job until after they have been employed beyond of 90 days lol

I reach my 91st day on my current job on March 18th:wave:
