Michigan woman gave birth on same day she discovered pregnancy

A Michigan woman went to the hospital thinking she had a hernia. But Linda Ackley left several days later with a new baby girl. Ackley, 44, told the Jackson Patriot-News she didn't know she was pregnant until the day she delivered her daughter. She underwent an emergency C-section last Friday, delivering Kimberly Kay Ackley at 11:20 p.m.

The 10-pound baby girl is the first child for Ackley and her husband of 24 years, Mike. Ackley told the Patriot-News she never thought she could have children following an infection and significant abdominal surgery two yeras ago. She went to the doctor last week due to bloating in her abdomen. A CT scan detected the full-term pregnancy.

These stories make no sense to me. You mean to tell me that at no time in 9 months she never felt moving or kicking? Not to mention the fact that the baby was 10 pounds!! LOL!

Well having a child this way is surely a surprise. Not much thought during the 9 months, then boom a baby, I hope the child and mother are fine. A child at 44 can be risky. Then again this is 2013, not 1913.

Not to mention not having a period in all that time...I don't get these stories, either, but then I've never been pregnant.

That was the first thing that came to my mind too! You would think she would notice that her cycle has ceased for nine months!!

Maybe not, since she is 44. A lot of women go through menopause in their forties or begin to have irregular periods, so she may have thought that was what was happening. However, a ten pound baby would be hard not to notice I'd think. LOL! Although, I watch a lot of "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" and it seems to be much more common than you'd think.

Maybe she was a larger woman and wouldn't notice a 10 pound weight gain. No matter what happened, it was an unexpected blessing after all these years. Then again, motherhood at 44 is going to be a challenge. My husband's sister had two daughters at age 40 and 42. She had already raised three sons who were just about out of the house. This was a new marriage.

She adores her daughters, but it hasn't been easy for her. Carpooling in her 50s, setting up their college rooms in her 60s, etc. Made even tougher because her husband died of cancer when the girls were 6 and 8 years old.

I guess every woman's body is different!!
