I don't know if this question has been posted before, but if it has, then I apologize.

When an actor or actress is playing a character, sometimes their character will say another actors name in a movie but will never say their own. For example, I heard Julia Roberts mentioned Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in the movie "Notting Hill" but never mentioned her own name. Sylvester Stallone's character, I believe it was in Tango and Cash, mention that Rambo, another character he had played, was a P-word. meaning sissy. I heard Schwarzenegger's character in The Last Action hero say "Arnold Braunschweiger" but he never said his real name. The kid in the movie did say his real name. Lucille Ball did say her name in an episode of Here's Lucy when she met Lucille Ball. I wonder if the writers, or actors feel that having their character say their name is arrogant of them or maybe bad luck?

it breaks the fourth wall, sometimes they want to, sometimes they don't

there was an episode of Mork and Mindy where Mork actually meets Robin Williams.

what about "Being John Malkovich" - the whole concept of that movie was just weird.

I can't remember if he says his own name, but in My Name Is Bruce, Bruce Campbell plays himself, the movie is full of references to Bruce Campbell's previous movies and life.

Sometimes they do, as sorta a joke, like I remember in an episode of Walker Texas Ranger, Walker says people have mentioned that he looks like Chuck Norris, to which Trivette replies, "I don't see it!"

And once on an episode of Sanford and Son, Fred enters a Redd Foxx look-alike contest. :)

It makes me wonder in certain movie universes if certain actors still even exist, like in The Pellican Brief, do you think Julia Roberts even exists?

In Ghost, do you think Demi Moore Exists?

It's been a while since I saw it (I also hated it so I don't remember it in great detail), but I'm pretty sure Julia Roberts did mention her name in Ocean's Twelve.

What was unique about that was that the credits read "And Introducing Tess as Julia Roberts".
