which apt. did you like better? The first season one? (which was similar to the one in the movie) or the one from seasons 2 through 5?

I suppose the 2nd set allowed them to have the live audience. The first apartment was nice though. Kind of claustrophobic compared to the 2nd one. The 2nd apartment was cheerier and they were trying to pick up the pace.

They went even further because whenever there were episodes with flashbacks to a time before Felix moved in, Oscar was living in the second apartment, not the first. It was like they wanted audiences to forget the first apartment ever existed.

When the producers made the change, it seems like they could simply have had an episode where Oscar and Felix move to a "larger" apartment.

And I liked the first apartment better -- maybe because I had watched the movie so many times.

I just think the Apartment was meant to look as much like the old one as possible but conducive to a live audience..

It looked somewhat similar..

You just have to say to yourself.. "IT IS TV"

That show has a record number of inconsistencies.

yea, Garry Marshall DID do the same thing with "HD", in fact he got the idea to do that in front of a live audience because it worked out so well on "OC".

at least with "I love Lucy", she did move to a larger apartment, which made complete sense. I too, in my building had moved to a larger apartment once one became available, so that does ring true for New Yorker's (which I am as well)

I think when sets change, they should make some sort of explanation. I remember The Nanny, the first episode, or first few episodes, the stairs were on the left side, straight staircase, after a few episodes the staircase was on the right, winding....

All us viewers want is an explanation. We know things in apartments change, just give us a reason. LOL

The first apartment was bad. It may have copied the movie but the series was better than the movie and needed a more open and flowing set than a movie. The second apartment might not have worked for a movie, might have looked like filming a play, but was comforting to watch for a TV series. It helped it become a great show.

The apartment used in season one was the same one used in the movie, the set was still available when the series started. The first season followed the movie structure, it was not only using the movie apartment set but the show was an extension of the movie. Tony played Felix in a similar manner to Jack Lemmon's portrayal. In addition, the poker game such an important part of the movie was a main part of the series. The Pigeon sisters who were featured in the movie were characters in the series as well. Everything changed with season two, not only was the apartment set different, Felix was reimagined, the sisters were gone and the poker game such an integral part of season one was reduced to one appearance a season. Murray of course was extracted from the poker game added to regular episode activities.

The first one felt like a real apartment, the second one didn't.
