Rihanna on Chris Brown: 'We Know Exactly What We Have Now'
by Rolling Stone
1/30/13

Rihanna has opened up like never before about getting back together with her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, and what it means for her public image.

"I decided it was more important for me to be happy," she tells contributing editor Josh Eells in the new issue of Rolling Stone, out Friday, January 31st. "I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."

The couple's public reconciliation comes less than four years since Brown assaulted Rihanna the night before the 2009 Grammy Awards. Brown plead guilty to assault and performed community service, but he remains on probation.

"When you add up the pieces from the outside, it's not the cutest puzzle in the world," Rihanna says. "You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it's different now. We don't have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about ****. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that."

And Rihanna says that if Brown were ever to display a hint of his past behavior towards her, she is ready to walk.

"He doesn't have the luxury of ****ing up again," she says. "That's just not an option. I can't say that nothing else will ever go wrong. But I'm pretty solid in the knowing that he's disgusted by that. And I wouldn't have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility."

"He made a mistake, and he's paid his dues," Rihanna adds. "He's paid so much. And I know that's not a place he would ever want to go back to. And sometimes people need support and encouragement, instead of ridicule and criticism and bashing."

The first time wasn't convincing enough?

Can't believe Rolling Stone would waste time and space on this. If she had dumped the idiot then I would applaud her but she's probably asking for more of the same if she stays with him.

Sickening. If and most likely when he takes out his rage on her and she lands in the hospital (or worse), people didn't warn her!!!

Chris Brown isn't going to change. He's now accused of getting violent with R&B singer Frank Ocean. He doesn't care what gender you are, he'll get in your face. Rihanna is just plain dumb.

How insecure must she be?

Let's come back to this thread the next time Chris Brown is arrested for assault- on her or anyone.

Some women like bad boys. Some women like getting their a$$ whipped then go crazy hot over the make-up sex. I had a girlfriend like that. She pushed buttons, said terribly hateful things to get me riled up; but after the smoke cleared we were both alway exhausted and satisfied. Rhianna is that exact type of women. Oh, the girl? I dumped her after the 1st time she called the police.

then he claimed he never threw a punch, yet TMZ caught him the other day with his right hand in a cast and now his people are saying that he didn't start it...

Chris Brown definitely has some issues and if Rihanna wants to be with him, that's her right. I just hope he treats her right this time. It's sad that so many black women love bad black men and that's why i don't deal with black women. Their attitudes are so nasty and that's sad because i love black women. I wish Rihanna was my woman because i would never treat her wrong.

Women like this end up dead. Sad, but often true. I disagree that it's just her life. Whether you like it or not, when you are public figure you have a responsibility to those that look up to you and admire you. I hate to think of all the little girls around the world who will follow her example and don't have the luxury of backing out.

It is so very wrong to say that only black women put up with abusive, bad men. There are plenty of dopey white women who also have abusive men in their lives. No matter what race they are, there will always be women who allow themselves to be battered and abused. They allow it, so they are not manipulated. Rihanna is hardly special in this vicious cycle. It happens way too often with women who have low self-esteem.

the thing is, since the assault 3 years ago, chris still hasn't changed - he trashed some TV studio, got into a foul-mouthed rant against another user on twitter over the rihanna incident, beat up frank ocean. it's like he likes to court controversy wherever he goes.

he hasn't learnt his lesson and i don't think he ever will. the guy has serious anger issues. worse, is when some celebs support chris brown and not realising his actions are sending a negative message to his fans.

i was reading tweets on twitter by debbie allen as she mentioned chris and of the both of them handing awards to kids- i'm a big fan of debbie's but i'm just saddened and disappointed that she has decided to associate herself with chris brown. i just cannot believe it - i don't think she can see how damaged chris is and that he is not a good influence on the kids. :(

anyone who supports chris brown over what he did, or do not care he is an abuser i'd say supports domestic violence and the idea that men are allowed to beat up their wives, girlfriends. and that is sad.
