"The Big Bang Theory": "Raising Hope" Actress to Play Love Interest for Raj (Exclusive)

Raj's time may finally have come on CBS' "The Big Bang Theory".

The lovable geek who's currently unable to speak to women without the assistance of alcohol is getting a love interest. "Raising Hope's" Kate Micucci has been tapped to join the CBS ratings juggernaut, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

While details about the role are being kept under wraps, Micucci will appear in multiple episodes and play Lucy, a potential love interest for Kunal Nayyar's lovelorn Raj. She'll first appear in the Valentine's Day episode on Feb. 14.





The half-hour, titled 'The Tangible Affection Proof', is shaping up to be a special one. "It's a big one for Leonard and Penny -- there might be somebody getting down on one knee," co-star Johnny Galecki (Leonard) recently told THR of the Valentine's Day episode. "We never started doing holiday event shows until two or three seasons in, when we did the Christmas episode. That was a big hit, and we struck a chord of sentimentality with our audience, and we'll continue to do so. The Valentine's Day episode will be that."

Buzz about a love interest for Raj first surfaced last summer at Comic-Con, where exec producer Chuck Lorre teased that season six might bring some good luck with the opposite sex for the shy character. "We have a romance planed for Raj this year," he said in July. "Wait until you see it!"

I am a casual watcher of Big Bang and just happened to watch the last episode when Kate Miccuci showed up. I really like this girl and she should be doing more television.

She is unique looking, but I think she is very beautiful. So since she is a recurring character, this will interest me to watch the show.

One of the great things about The Big Bang Theory is their ability to introduce new characters that each have beautifully flawed lives that fit and clash with the group dynamic like a delicious "sweet & sour" sauce.

Kate Micucci is the newest example and I hope the writers embrace her character and add it to the mix. She's a wonderful actress who plays the insecure part extremely believably. She can actually be the one to bring Raj out of his own insecurities as he tries to show her that it is possible.

Is love blooming again for "The Big Bang Theory's" Raj?

Kunal Nayyar's season-six love interest Kate Micucci has booked a return trip to the CBS comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.



Micucci, who played Lucy, the socially awkward woman who opted to break up with Raj rather than expand her comfort zone, will return to reprise her character in the eighth episode of the upcoming seventh season.

Plot details on the episode, slated to air Nov. 14, are scarce but Lucy will bump into Penny (Kaley Cuoco) during the episode. It's unclear whether Raj, who in the sixth-season finale overcame his selective muteness after having his heart broken, will cross paths with his ex.



"I'm not sure it's a good thing that Raj can talk to women because he's going to put his foot in his mouth a lot," Nayyar told The Hollywood Reporter of Raj's newfound abilities.
