Ron Jeremy In Critical Condition at Local Hospital

Legendary adult performer Ron Jeremy is undergoing surgery at Cedars Sinai for a condition called aortic dissection. His condition is listed as critical.

Celebrity gossip site TMZ.com broke the story this morning, reporting that Jeremy drove himself to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after experiencing severe chest pain. He underwent surgery this morning for what doctors believed was a heart aneurysm, and the aortic dissection was reportedly discovered later.

His surgeon is expected to make a statement sometime later.





Aortic dissection is a serious condition in which there is a separation of the aorta walls. A tear in the inner wall of the aorta causes blood to flow between the three layers of the wall of the aorta, forcing the walls apart.

The exact cause is unknown, but is often attributed to aging, high blood pressure and hardening of the arteries. The condition is life threatening but can sometimes be managed through surgery and drugs.





The 59-year-old Jeremy, who was nicknamed "The Hedgehog," has been a household name for years, not only for his work in the adult industry, but also his mainstream accomplishments in TV and movies. One of his most recent public appearances was at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and the AVN Awards, where he was joined on stage by reality TV stars Joseline and Stevie J from Love & Hip Hop Atlanta to present an award.

While he still performs on occasion and still gets cast in many non-sex roles in adult movies, he has also been an advocate for the industry, touring college campuses as part of the "Great Porn Debate" with Craig Gross, founder of XXXChurch.com and an anti-pornography crusader.

Jeremy got his start in the adult industry in 1979 and has appeared in more than 2,000 films.

Legendary adult performer Ron Jeremy is recovering from two heart surgeries today at Cedars-Sinai for a condition called aortic dissection.

Celebrity gossip site TMZ.com broke the story this morning, reporting that Jeremy drove himself to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after experiencing severe chest pain. He underwent surgery this morning for what doctors believed was a heart aneurysm, and the aortic dissection was reportedly discovered later.

His manager issued a statement that the surgeries "went smoothly" and Ron is resting with no visitors allowed.

Hopefully everything turns out okay for Ron. I watched him in an interview and he seems like a nice guy.

Porn star Ron Jeremy's agent says the prolific actor will likely stay at a Los Angeles hospital a while to recover from an aneurysm near his heart.

Agent Mike Esterman says Jeremy isn't allowed to receive visitors or deliveries following a procedure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last week. Esterman says he doesn't expect the 59-year-old to leave the hospital "for some time."

Jeremy had a heavy feeling in his chest and drove himself to the hospital last Wednesday.

Anyway, the survival rate for aortic dissection is quite low but some do survive.

On Feb. 6, the actor, who has performed in more than 2,000 adult films, posted a photo of himself with one of his nurses, giving the thumps up:

"Thank you ALL for the concern & well wishes, I'm doing very well thanks to modern technology! - Ron"

Ron Jeremy Released from Hospital

Adult actor and pop culture icon Ron Jeremy has been released from the hospital, almost three weeks after undergoing emergency surgeries for a heart aneurysm.

Jeremy reportedly showed off his surgical scar on his chest, to reporters from the New York Daily News, adding, “I came very close to death. I guess I have a very, very strong will to live.”



The AVN Hall of Famer, who has appeared in more than 2,000 movies throughout his 30-plus years career, drove himself to Cedars-Sinai earlier this month after experiencing chest pains and underwent two surgeries the next day for a heart aneurysm.

He was unconscious for several days, but is reportedly well on the road to recovery now. He even told reporters he has plans to change his eating habits, and has lost 45 pounds since being admitted to the hospital.

“Eating healthy food is depressing, but it’s keeping me alive,” he said. “My dad is 94 and still going strong. He got mad at me for this. He jokes that he and my mom gave me the perfect body, and I screwed it up.”



The 59-year-old, known as “The Hedgehog,” is one of the most recognizable adult performers ever, and his health crisis received worldwide attention.

Ron Jeremy on the Mend He Tells 'Inside the Industry'

Fresh off his release from the hospital on Wednesday, Ron Jeremy spent a couple minutes talking with James Bartholet on the latter's radio show, Inside the Industry.

Speaking with Bartholet, Emy Reyes, Tia Cyrus and Mia Ryder, Jeremy, who was released from Cedars-Sinai Hospital earlier that same day, was up to his usual humorous ways.



Asked how long it would take for him to get back in front of the camera, Jeremy joked, "How long? Nine-and-a-quarter inches. No, no, I'm sorry…" before admitted it would still be at least a couple more months.

The 59-year-old adult icon was in the hospital for almost three weeks after undergoing emergency surgeries for a heart aneurysm.

"Don't be careless like me," he cautioned the audience on Bartholet's show. "Take five minutes and get your blood pressure checked. It's no big deal."

"This may be the worst birthday I've ever had in my entire life," Ron Jeremy told AVN in classic Ron Jeremy style today—upon which he has hit the big 6-0.

The man known worldwide as The Hedgehog makes a solid argument for his case: "I can't see what's worse! I get a nine-hour surgery, and I'm brought in again for another hour and a half because I was bleeding internally. Happy 60! I also got pneumonia ... happy 60! There will never be a worse birthday for the rest of my life."

"Turning 60 is spooky and not a lot of fun," he lamented. "But turning 60 after having a heart aneurysm is a huge piece of ****."



"Jay Leno, right after he heard about my problem, he says, 'Ron has just left the hospital, which is the quickest discharge he's ever done.' And then Anthony Jeselnik says, 'We want Ron to get healthy, and I know that the girls in porn want him to get healthy—it's all over their faces."

Ron noted that he's been paid some more heartfelt respects, as well. "I had a one-on-one with Harvey Levin, a real nice one-on-one," he said. "He wished me the best, he was really sweet. No jokes, no scandals, just, 'You got a serious problem, hope you do well with it.'"



And don't fret ... in spite of his frail condition, Ron said he will make his best effort to put in a little celebrating with his adoring friends and fans on this momentous milestone, at tonight's Porn Star Karaoke at Sardo's (259 N. Pass Ave., Burbank, CA 91505).

"The doctor said I could go out, but be really, really careful of being sneezed on, coughed on, don't take on any viruses," he relayed. "They want me to do that fist handshake. I don't know if I can do that."
