Peter Robbins, an Oceanside resident who as a child actor was the voice of the animated “Charlie Brown” character of Peanuts fame, has been arrested and is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday in San Diego on five felony charges, authorities said.

Robbins, 56, is charged with four felony counts of making a threat to cause death or great bodily injury and one felony count of stalking, according to the San Diego County jail website.

He was booked into jail shortly before 4 a.m. Monday and was being held on $550,000 bail, according to the jail records.

His manager, Danielle Matthews, said Tuesday night that she could not discuss the arrest but would comment later Wednesday.

Robbins was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, said Angelica de Cima, spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He was driving a silver 2006 Mercedes-Benz C230 when a border officer referred him to an area for a more thorough examination, she said. He was the only person in the car at the time.

A systems check determined that Robbins was wanted by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for a felony warrant for crimes against a person, De Cima said.

Jan Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Department, said Tuesday night that she did not immediately have details about the warrant.

Robbins provided the voice of Charlie Brown in several Peanuts productions in the late 1960s, including the film A Boy Named Charlie Brown and television specials “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”.

The television shows remain popular today.

During a 2008 interview at the Comic-Con convention in San Diego, Robbins said he began doing the voice of Charlie Brown when he was 9. He said at age 14, his voice changed.

He said he later appeared in television shows such as “F Troop”, “The Munsters” and “Get Smart” and also acted in several movies.

On his Facebook page, Robbins goes by the name Peter “Charlie Brown” Robbins, and he interacts with fans who have posted comments about their love of the Peanuts character.

Man Who Voiced Charlie Brown Pleads Guilty to Threatening Plastic Surgeon
4/11/2013
by THR Staff

The man who voiced Charlie Brown in the classic Peanuts TV specials pleaded guilty on Wednesday to threatening violence against a plastic surgeon from La Jolla, Calif., as well as a former girlfriend.

California's City News Service reports that Peter Robbins, 56, who is charged with stalking and making criminal threats toward Dr. Lori Saltz and his ex, Shawn Kern, a client of Saltz's. Robbins faces up to three years in prison and will be sentenced next month.

As previously reported, Saltz obtained a temporary restraining order against Robbins during a Jan. 3 hearing. According to court papers, Robbins threatened to "break her in half" after claiming she'd botched a breast-enhancement procedure on Kern.

Robbins, who paid for the operation, broke up with Kern following an incident where he grabbed her by the neck and demanded they collect the money back from Saltz.

After the split, he called Saltz's office and also left a voice message for Kern saying: "You better hide, Shawna. I'm coming for you. I'm going to find you in Sun Valley or wherever the [expletive] you live and I'm going to kill you."

Afraid for her life, Saltz hired security and began staying at a hotel; Robbins bought a gun, which he had not yet received, and visited a shooting range.

He was arrested in late January while re-entering the United States from Tijuana, Mexico.

The Oceanside man who formerly voiced the affable “Peanuts” cartoon character Charlie Brown on television was sentenced to jail time Wednesday for threatening and stalking two victims, including his ex-girlfriend.

Former voice actor Peter Robbins, 56, was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border in San Ysidro back in January for allegedly threatening and stalking his ex-girlfriend, Shawna Kern, and La Jolla plastic surgeon Lori Saltz.

Investigators say Robbins began stalking Saltz after she performed a breast enhancement surgery on Kern.

Robbins and Kern broke up following her plastic surgery. Robbins then repeatedly demanded a refund from Saltz, stalking and threatening to kill the surgeon if she didn’t pay him back, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors say Robbins also called Kern up to 37 times in a 24-hour period saying he would kill her and her son if she didn’t give back his dog and car.

On Wednesday, a judge sentenced Robbins to serve one year in county jail. He has already been in jail for about four months.

In addition to serving jail time, Robbins will also have to enroll in a residential drug treatment program to tackle his problems with substance abuse.

A judge sentenced Robbins to probation for the next five years and ordered him to pay $15,000 in restitution to Saltz. If he violates his probation, Robbins could serve nearly four years in prison.

To prevent that from happening, the judge had a few familiar words of advice for Robbins in court:

“If I can borrow a line from 'Peanuts,' sir, I'm going to grant [you] probation. If you adhere to those terms, you won’t go to prison. So, don’t be a blockhead,” the judge said.

Robbins cried and cracked a small smile after hearing from the judge. The term “blockhead” is a reference to the Charlie Brown animated character, who was often called a "blockhead" by his “Peanuts” pals.

Following his sentencing Robbins read a short letter in court addressed to the judge and his victims. Through tears, Robbins expressed remorse for his actions, saying he has “no ill will” toward Kern and Saltz and regrets causing them fear.

“I’ve taken responsibility for my actions and will openly seek treatment for my alcoholism and prescription medication addictions. I realize this is just the first step toward becoming the fun-loving, respectful person I was and hope to become again," said Robbins.

Back in January, Robbins’ defense attorney claimed the former “Charlie Brown” actor had no criminal history and had lived in San Diego for more than 30 years without legal woes.

Wow...Just no words...Shame...who would've thunk it?
Wonder what Schultz's family thinks of this? I know I was stunned when I first heard about this on the news...

But I guess everybody has a breaking point....He's human just like the rest of us, and he's lucky he got off the way he did...I just hope he gets the help he needs...

It is a shame. I hope all the other cast members help him too.
