View Full Version : Most obvious wig / toupee / hairpiece (s) used on UM

Most obvious wig / toupee / hairpiece (s) used on UM
Can either be real or in re-enacted segments.
1. Michael Mowhan - Stack mentions when narrating that Mowhan was "a master of disguises". Yet on the particular photograph that Stack says this I don't know who in the world would be fooled by the ridiculous wig that Mowhan used in the photo. I actually laughed out loud is was so bad!
2. Lyle Moody - the detective talking about the case.
3. Gary Grant Jr - the journalist investigating the case.
Any others?

Two immediately come to mind: the actor playing Keith Reinhard (good thing he wore that hat over his wig--otherwise it NEVER would've been passable), and the actor playing Hugh Harlin. Double points for that one because a fake beard was involved as well.
Speaking of which--the long wig the actress playing Diane Harlin wore. You might remember it from the Tammy Leppert segment. It's awful.

I always wondered why they put such a hideous wig on an actress for the Tammy Leppert segment, it's not like there's a dearth of young blonde actresses.
scc1222 01-22-2013, 09:13 PM IIRC,the man who lost his son in the George Anderson segment. His son was also a soccer player, and he dreamed of George's meeting and talking about him.
Corkys-Place 01-22-2013, 09:50 PM Does Liz Carmichael count?
TracyLynnS 01-24-2013, 02:05 PM Definitely agree with Meg about the Tammy Leppert segment. I was disappointed with that horrendous wig on the actress because it was so distracting that it took my focus away from the case.
I know they must have had no shortage of lovely young blonde actresses to choose from to portray Tammy. Why did they resort to using such a cheap looking awful wig?
amandab1234 01-24-2013, 02:25 PM Another one who comes to mind, is a detective who was working with a psychic, I think her name was Dorothy and he stated himself that he wore a hair piece. I don’t know remember her last name, I just remember a few of the cases she solved was about a man who fell off the train and was found by a river, a young girl who was killed by her BF then found buried in an oil drum.

 I forgot about that! Her name indeed was Dorothy and her last name was Allison.
unsolved88 01-24-2013, 06:19 PM The woman playing Pamela June Ray. It didn't even look like it was on correctly; it looked more like it was kind just balanced on the the crown of her head.

The detective's name was Keith Wattenschaidt.

Tighthead 11-05-2013, 01:41 PM I was unable to find Mr. Digman credible with that thing on his head.
rysmytsharp 11-06-2013, 12:45 PM The woman who played Marilyn Depue had one of the worst looking wigs I've ever seen.

YES. I think it's the same wig the actress who played Marie Hilley wore when she was doing that whole charade about being her own twin sister.

I agree with this 100%
Which is unfortunate given that he needed to be credible to successfully make his case for his son's death not being a suicide.

schmave 10-06-2023, 12:42 PM Maury Terry from the Son of Sam segment. His hairpiece was obvious immediately.
I got a kick out of how Keith Wattenschaidt acknowledged his.
Janel "Jaycee" Miller 10-06-2023, 01:23 PM I know this thread is about hairpieces, but how about the fake beard on the actor playing the man hired by the former television commerical actor to (falsely) prove he had gold in his mine?

I did not know this until I watched the special last night. the only UM that comes to mind is the Rose McGowan/Elain Parent segment. that was the wig of all wigs for me. albeit I think it was only shown on the sketch?
ChandlerMurielB1 10-07-2023, 03:19 AM Dave Carlsen (from the segment about a couple looking for their long lost daughter).
It looks like he borrowed Dana Carvey's wig from "Wayne's World".
IBMcginty 10-09-2023, 05:11 PM I wasnt sure where to post this when I first began rewatching UM but this seems to be the place...The eyebrows on the actor playing Rudolph Hess have to have been created by crocheting caterpillars together, they are scurry...The real Hess had some visc au nautural ones so these babies are on steroids.
Speaking of which I Googled this and as of 2019 they had tested an extant DNA sample and mystery solved it matched the real Hess.
Or So It Seems 10-10-2023, 01:56 PM I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned the actor playing the look-a-like Brad Bishop in the washroom in Sorrento, Italy. That was too obvious.

It was also shown earlier in the segment when "Sam"--possibly Elaine Parent pretending to be a man pretending to be Beverly--walked into the travel agency. You can see the wig quite clearly when the actor playing "Sam" is shown fully sitting in the travel agency.
