This is a very paraphrased account of what happened to a scammed victim. :(
I wanted to enjoy my summer vacation in London, so I sent an ad for a room on Craigslist. A girl named Jolene told me she would rent me a room in her house for 2000. She sent me pictures of a beautiful room. We kept in contact via email, and Jolene sent me her picture. My friends and I agreed that she looked normal, so I sent her a check for the room. She never even gave me a room key or anything like that. But, I got a reply from her thanking me for the check and she would send me my room information in a few days. Weeks passed, with no word from her. I was getting suspicious.
About a month later, Jolene emailed me to beg me for money to pay for her sick mother's stay in the hospital. I was disgusted. I couldn't believe I had ever trusted Jolene. I cursed her out in the e-mail and never heard from her again.
I was out of the money I had dumbly sent Jolie and, although I was still able to go to London, I had to go to various hotels and had very little money to enjoy myself. I was angry at Jolene for scamming me out of my money, but also angry at myself for blindly trusting a scammer.
