Has Carly Simon revealed who she was talking about? The one she thought was vain?

^To my knowledge, no.

^To my knowledge, no.

The song was written about David Geffen.
I think it was some sports announcer(?) who won an auction to know the identity of the guy in the song and then a little time later it was revealed to be David Geffen.

It has been suggested that it is either Mick Jagger or Warren Beatty. As a hint she said that his name contains the letters A, E, and R. I vote for Warren!

One of my all-time favorite songs and a good one to sing at karaoke.

The first Carly Simon tune I ever heard. I once thought she sounded like Bea Arthur.

tnawcwvictoriafa, please do not delete any edits I make. If you don't agree with it then send a PM to Janice or TJ and let them make the final decision. If they feel the edit was unwarranted then fine but until then leave it as is.

I have heard a couple of the other songs on the album, and they are pretty bad too.

To add another layer to the mystery: On the Janet Jackson song Son of a Gun which samples You're So Vain and features Ms. Simon, Carly sings "The apricot scarf was worn by Nick, nothing in the words refer to Mick."

I heard just now on the radio that Carly says that the person in the song is actually a composite of 3 men from her L A days.
