View Full Version : UM cases on DISAPPEARED (ID channel)
comicbookwriter 01-09-2013, 08:47 PM So far, I've seen the Niqui Cowan case and the one where the lady may have faked her death by driving her SUV into a tree in the mountains.
Then there was the one where the guy in the small town disappeared and turned up alive later on.
What other cases have any of you identified?

WishfulDreamer 01-09-2013, 08:50 PM Amy Bechtel's case was just recently profiled.
Amy Bradley, who disappeared on a cruise ship, was also profiled on Disappeared.
I have only seen an episode or two so I'm not sure which others have been profiled.
TracyLynnS 01-09-2013, 09:16 PM I think they've also done programs on these UM cases:
Susan Walsh
Madalyn Murray O'Hair
Rachel Cooke
The Springfield Three: Stacy Kathleen McCall, Suzanne E. Streeter, and Sherrill Elizabeth Levitt (UM wiki site says this was a UM special alert and apparently not a full segment)

YES! I forgot about that case.
They also ran the case about the mother and the two girls raped and thrown into the water in Florida.
Sorry, I'm horrible with case titles.

I thought Amy Bradley was featured on Vanished w/ Beth Holloway?
1990 UM fan 01-09-2013, 10:32 PM I would like to have the links to these episodes if they exist online. Message them to me if you can find them.
1990 UM fan 01-09-2013, 10:33 PM I thought Amy Bradley was featured on Vanished w/ Beth Holloway?
She was. They aired her story on Disappeared too. That makes 3 programs in which she's been on (as far as I know).
Zlatko 01-09-2013, 11:31 PM She was. They aired her story on Disappeared too. That makes 3 programs in which she's been on (as far as I know).
Was the Disappeared episode on Amy fairly recent? I can't find anything on Amy Bradley's case being shown on Disappeared. I do recall the Vanished episode.

I could be wrong but I swear it was on Disappeared as well as Vanishing and of course, Unsolved Mysteries. Not sure where to look for it.

You are correct. I am pretty certain the episode just premiered this week.
SheRaaa 01-10-2013, 09:53 PM I watched the Leah Roberts case (young N. Carolina woman whose car runs off road in Washington state) on both UM and Disappeared, and it was interesting to see how much info. Disappeared was able to present due to their hour-long format. Apparently investigators discovered that her vehicle may have been tampered with? Such a bizarre case.
UM1985 01-11-2013, 07:19 AM I saw the Gordon Page Jnr case on there recently.
dks64 01-11-2013, 04:27 PM I love that this program is keeping these cases alive. There are a few programs that have recently featured UM cases, like Vanished featured the Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman case.
wonderwall 01-12-2013, 12:34 AM I really hope Disappeared profiles the Jodi Huisentruit and Rachel Runyan cases. Since both of their cases appeared on UM as quicker "special alerts", I think their cases would really benefit from the longer format. I know UM didn't even get into Jodi's relationship with John Vancise!

I don't recall having ever seen Madayn Murray O'Hair profiled on UM. Was her case merely part of a "special alert" segment? If anything, her disappearance was the subject of a Forensic Files episode called "Without A Prayer."

I think you're right. I dunno why I thought I saw the O'Hair case on UM. I must have had it mixed up with the FF episode.

What I really like about Disappeared is that they can present more information on a case. The Leah Roberts case really haunted me after watching the episode of disappeared.
IIFC, they didn't realize the vehicle had been tampered with until several years after her vehicle was recovered.
alfiechat 01-18-2013, 07:26 AM is going to feature the disappearance of a journalist in 1995. hmmm....
Isn't that Jodi Huisentruit?

Anchorwoman but I think she did journalism too
Zlatko 01-18-2013, 01:21 PM The Laura Bible and Ashley Freeman case is going to be showcased next Monday on Disappeared.
Their case has been showcased on Beth Holloway's Vanished as well.
UMfan77 01-19-2013, 05:36 PM The Laura Bible and Ashley Freeman case is going to be showcased next Monday on Disappeared.
I'm definately watching this one. The Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman case has so many unanswered questions. Did the girls set the house on fire or did someone else do it and abducted the girls? We'll see if there's any additional info on "Disappeared".
comicbookwriter 01-21-2013, 07:58 PM I was just going to post that the Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman case is going to be on DISAPPEARED tonight at 9pm I believe.
Some of you are way up on things. :)

flytrapp 01-21-2013, 10:59 PM Molly Bish was also featured on Disappeared (the girl that was the life guard at a local lake and vanished).
I like it when the people featured on Disappeared turn out to be alive and just ditched their life. The episode on Michele Whittaker is my fave. There are many disappeared episodes on the forbidden site.
Vanished with Bell Holloway is a good show, I like it. The was also an UM case that was on Cold Case Files, too. I forget the girl's name, but she disappeared driving from point A to point B, and they later found her car buried on the killer's lot beside his trailer. I think the Oba Chandler case was also on Cold Case Files.

I liked the Michele Whittaker episode, too. Totally did not see that coming AT ALL when I saw it for the first time.
In addition to the Cold Case Files segment there was also a Forensic Files episode about Oba Chandler entitled "Water Logged". It's been a couple of years since I last saw it, however. The name of the woman featured in the UM segment you mentioned is Lisa Marie Kimmell.
wiseguy182 06-10-2013, 02:15 AM With in-depth profiles of Colleen Wood, Jodi Huisentruit, Bible and Freeman, Moses Law, season 5 of Disappeared is almost like having a new season of UM. That's why I really wish we could find out what happened with Disappeared.
Disappeared has disappeared. How ironic. Like when it rains on your wedding day?
kolson82 06-11-2013, 01:56 AM Not only has it disappeared, but it has random seasons on Netflix and Amazon Prime. I think they only make like two seasons available. Discovery ID does weird stuff like that with all of their streaming material--they only make certain episodes available. Frustrating.
WishfulDreamer 06-11-2013, 03:08 AM Only some of the episodes are available to stream, sadly. I really want to view the Molly Bish and Rachel Cooke episodes but have been unable to find them in full.
wiseguy182 10-28-2013, 03:07 AM regarding Michele Whitaker, I didn't like that episode too awfully much.
The mother seemed to blame Michele for the rape she suffered previously. Nobody came right out and said it, but it was alluded to several times and Michele had even stated that she didn't feel support from her mother after it happened. Heck, during the episode, the mom was even talking about how Michele had gotten herself in a 'bad situation' just before the rape occured, so it was obvious to me that she blamed her for it. The victim should never be blamed. I think that was primarily the reason Michele left and it certainly becomes more understandable WHY she left. I also get the impression she would have remained in hiding if she hadn't been found out.
But, I thought Michele came off as a little dense. She stated she was shocked that everyone spent so much time and energy to find her. It was like she expected everyone to forget she even existed. Of course people are going to try and find her. Her comments made her seem dense.
In any event, it seemed like they were reconciling at the end of the episode. I hope they were able to work things out, they definitely need some repair in that relationship.
unsolved1981 10-28-2013, 02:27 PM Only some of the episodes are available to stream, sadly. I really want to view the Molly Bish and Rachel Cooke episodes but have been unable to find them in full.
Sadly, there wasn't much no info on Molly Bish on the ID version of her case (beyond her body being found in 2003). They had a couple of people who they think are the smoking man in the composite, but nothing they could prove.
It's probably my 'favorite' late UM case. (see my avatar) My sister is about a months difference in age from Molly Bish and looks alot like her so Bish's case has always stuck out to me.
unsolved1981 10-28-2013, 02:39 PM For those that have seen it, what was the one (I think in Ohio) where the girl's car was found abandoned back into a boarded up house? THAT is the kind of case that would be perfect for a reborn UM episode.
EDIT: NM, it was in Vermont and the missing person's name was Brianna Maitland. What a creepy case.
wiseguy182 10-31-2013, 05:24 AM To clear up some confusion,
I am 99% certain Disappeared never aired an episode on Amy Bradley. If you know otherwise, please tell me the episode title or other info. Vanished with Beth Holloway *did* devote an entire episode to her though, no other person on that show got a full episode, not even Beth's daughter Natalee. All of the other missing persons profiled on that show got segments.
Joann Rodgers was not on Disappeared either. It was on Cold Case Files, however.
Madalyn Murray O'Hair was never on UM. She was, however, profiled on Disappeared, American Justice, City Confidential, Murder by the Book and Forensic Files (whew). Love her or hate her (and odds are that you hate her), it was a fascinating story about a controversial women, and that's undoubtedly why it aired on so many crime shows.
And while I have been religious about recording the reruns, I have missed the Amy Wroe Bechtel one twice in a row and am kicking myself in the pants for it.
MegtheEgg86 10-31-2013, 01:25 PM I'm 99% sure Amy Bradley wasn't on Disappeared as well. (The first Vanished with Beth Holloway I ever saw was the Amy Bradley episode, though!) I think the reason behind the assertion that she was might lie in photographs. With their short haircuts and similar-ish coloration, it might be that Amy is being confused with Leah Roberts, who was definitely covered in a Disappeared episode.
Spark Of Spirit 11-01-2013, 05:18 PM I'm also fairly certain Amy Bradley's disappearance wasn't covered on Disappeared. I've seen a good chunk of the episodes, but I don't ever remember her case on there and I remember seeing all the other UM to Disappeared episodes. It's possible I missed it, but I really don't think there was one.

You just created a better episode guide than any of the ones on the internet. I'm going to print that out and use it. Thank you very much!
wiseguy182 11-02-2013, 01:24 AM Sadly, there wasn't much no info on Molly Bish on the ID version of her case (beyond her body being found in 2003). They had a couple of people who they think are the smoking man in the composite, but nothing they could prove.
Actually, there were a few nuggets I thought were pretty interesting.
-It was mentioned that, in addition to her flip flops, two-way radio and lunch found near her chair, there were other things also found there, such as a whistle, flotation device, and first aid kit. The most interesting thing IMO was the first aid kit, which was found open. It was theorized that somebody had approached Molly, feigning an injury, and she bent down to go through her first aid kit and he grabbed her from there. I do think it's interesting that there were no signs of a struggle, none of the objects looked disturbed and apparently there was no sand disturbed, so I have to imagine he pulled a weapon on her and she put up no resistance once she learned of that. I really wish she could have grabbed that radio.
-The woman who had assumed Molly's lifeguard post told authorities that Molly had abandoned her post voluntarily, which police believed, going as far as to say that Molly had neglected her lifeguarding duties and was meandering about with her friends. I was quite disgusted by this and unfortunately it's nothing new, how many times have kids have disappeared and met with foul play and the police suspect they "ran away" :(
-Perhaps not the most newsy item, but Molly had taken over the lifeguard post from her brother John Jr., who had worked it for the last 3 summers.
-Molly must have disappeared right before a large crowd of people gathered at the pond. It was the first day of swimming lessons. Sadly, I fear the killer striked at just the right moment. I do get the sense he staked her out for some time beforehand, getting a feel for both Molly's habits and the activity of the pond.
All that being said, I think the composite resembles Stager alot more than Burno.
