I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the newspaper headline. "People caught using welfare cash to spend at strip bars." I was livid. How dare people use money that is supposed to feed their children to go enjoy themselves at strip clubs?1 I'd be pissed if my parent(s) squandered money that is supposed to feed me and my siblings at strip clubs!

I've also heard of people spending their welfare checks on booze, tobacco, and lottery tickets. I think they need to give people on welfare prepaid grocery cards instead of cash to prevent them from spending it on all the wrong things.

In Ohio, we have prepaid food cards for those in dire straits that are meant for FOOD ONLY. So I commend them for that. Ohio has its share of problems, but this is a good thing.

I used to drive Taxi Cab in New York and many people I picked up would have me drop them at a crack house after they got their welfare check. One woman actually brought her baby with her. And there was one that beat her 2 year old daughter in the back seat because the kid was complaining about being tired and wanting to go home after Mom dragged her out of bed at 2 in the morning to take her to a crack house. I called the cops on that woman myself. So there are much worse things they spend their checks on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to report to the Welfare office what your spending their money on? Don't you need to give them receipts of what you buy on their cash? I'm not on welfare, but I assume you have to tell them in paper where the money is going to.

I know a number of people that sell their food stamps 50 cents on the dollar. You give them 50.00 dollars in cash and they give you 100.00 in food stamps.

Here in Florida they give you a Debit Card (called an EBT Card) which you use to purchase food. The card is refreshed every month, and can only be redeemed at qualified stores, and only for food that qualifies (In addition to Adult Beverages you can't use it on Doritos or any other "Junk" Food).

To add more fuel to the fire. I heard one at one time you could use a $100.00 card and buy chewing gum for 99cent and get the change back. Then with the change, buy whatever you wanted.

Yeah, you can, On the EBT in Fla. you can pretty much buy anything that is consumed, EXCEPT hot food from the deli. But I think you can get cold food from the deli. This also includes chips, cookies, candy, soda on EBT. Sad but true. I mean no wonder we're the fattest nation in the world!!! I think you can even go into Publix and get one of their cakes and one of their hoagies and use your EBT. I think it should be changed to a "necessity card" rather than a food stamp. Cut out all the junk food, but include things like TP, laundry detergent and dish detergent.
