I think she lost her shy and timid personality in season three.

After living in Brooklyn with the Lane family for two years, Cathy seems to have found her place in both the family and the community, which no doubt accounted for her seeming less shy and timid. Cathy did have one last bout of insecurity in season three that led her to apply for a student exchange program in the hopes that her uncle, aunt and cousins would tell her they loved her too much to let her go away, but that backfired. In season three, I think that the novelty of the whole "Identical Cousins" gimmick was just wearing thin, and Cathy was just far too hard to write funny stories for.

I didn't mean to "hijack" it, merely to borrow it. I like Cathy's thoughtful expression in that one. (And I did thank you for posting it in the Merry Christmas thread.)

The hair and their voices were the only differences between the two cousins. Too much make-up on both girls and clothing styles were a bit similar in the last season. At least Patty switched it up with pants.

I wonder if it was due to laziness? Patty Duke might have been mighty exhausted and having to relocate to Cali to film? I think the woman had too much on her plate.

I now count 2 major storylines for Cathy. The moving away bit and my favorite one from season 3 where she & Richard help Ross defend himself against a bully. A rarity that season where the Patty character takes a backseat.

Seeing season 3 again and noticed that "The Greatest Speaker In The Whole Wide World" reminded me of season 2. Cathy & Patty had an equal amount of screen time and lo and behold I suspected Sidney Sheldon had a hand on this episode instead of the typical Hollywood writers.
