Report: "General Hospital" Vet Steve Burton Joins "Young and the Restless" — as [Spoiler]?
by Matt Webb Mitovich
12/26/12

Daytime TV vet Steve Burton, fresh off his run as "General Hospital" mobster Jason Morgan, next will surface on CBS’ "The Young and the Restless".

While TV Guide Magazine, which first reported on the casting, says that details on Burton’s "Y&R" character have yet to be revealed, Daytime Confidential (among others) speculates that he will play Avery’s ex, Dylan McAvoy, who is a presumed-dead war vet.

Such a “resurrection” surely would derail the romance between Avery (played by Jessica Collins) and Joshua Morrow’s Nick.

At "Y&R", Burton would reunite with his onetime "GH" boss Jill Farren Phelps. Sources say he would begin taping after the holiday break, landing his CBS soap debut sometime during February sweeps.

Burton’s "GH" run as Quartermaine golden boy-turned-brain-addled mob tough spanned some 20 years and ended this Oct. 30, with the actor winning one Daytime Emmy along the way.

This is surprising news. I thought he left GH because he was moving to Tennessee to be with his family.

Me too, he was also suppose to do other projects. So, what gives?? He needs to go back to GH and finish the storyline.

He's a good addition to the cast of Y&R, but I haven't watched in years and doubt his presence will make me tune in to the show, as the writing has gone way down the tubes over the years...

While the writing is definitely not what it used to be, there have still been some great storylines over the past few years. For example, even though they haven't been completely front and center, it has been great seeing the returns of both Nina and Christine.

Though, I would like to see returns of more past characters rather than bringing in new ones. I don't feel one way or another about the addition of Steve to the cast.

Hopefully she will learn from her mistakes. We can only hope.

Am happy Steve Burton is coming to shake up Nick and Avery. They are so boring lately.
