View Full Version : The Christmas episode when Penny got arrested
prestige 12-25-2012, 03:27 AM I was watching the christmas episode when Penny was arrested for shoplifting, why would Wilona take Penny (a minor child, pending adoption) shopping to leave Penny alone at the department store to shop on her own, and told Penny if she get lost; here is some cab fare money to catch the cab home, what type of mother is that?
So that means that Wilona went straight home from the department store without Penny?

I also live in an urban area in New York though. And when I was 11 I never would have been allowed to wander around a department store by myself or expected to take a cab home. Willona showed crappy parenting skills in my opinion.

That was mainly because she was a "unplanned parent" LMAO

I would guess that it happens a lot in big cities where public transportation is a main way of getting from point A to point B. It would be like a child catching a city bus.

My mom use to drop me and my best friend off at the movies and at the mall when I was 11 and 12. We were never kidnapped

But she dropped you off in her car. You didn't have to take a cab where who knows what kind of person could be driving.

She wasn't coming back to pick yall up?

She would come back to pick us up later that night. There were times when we were dropped off at the movie theater at 12pm and she would come back to pick us up at around 7 or 8. Same with the Mall, she would drop us off and come back at 9pm when the Mall closed to pick us up. When we were 12-15 every year she would drop us off at the State Fair (Which if you've ever been to the TX state fair, it isn't in a nice area, practically in the middle of the Ghetto) later that night she would pick us up. I think that nowadays some parents are a tab bit over protective.

But that could be with any public transportation.

Young Minor kids alone "normally" do not catch cab rides to take home... and as far as the city bus, you really don't see 11 year old kids alone on the bus, why would a parent allow their minor child to catch a bus to a certain address without a responsible known adult?

Yes, 11 is way too young to be catching public transportation alone. I think I was 14 when I started using public transportation

A lot of the time that is how they get to school if they live beyond the mileage that the school bus travels. It happens, there are single parents who do not have the luxury of walking or driving their children to school. It happens

Just remembered I was 12 when I started catching the Bus alone
Maybe it should be 14 for a girl

Exactly 14 is old enough, when I had my first summer job and I had to catch the bus downtown and I was 16 years old and If you really think about it, what parent would put their minor child at the age of 11 on the bus or cab alone?
