t was a report in the latest issue of TV guide that 419,000 people have cancelled cable and satellite TV for

Streaming shows on Netflix

Streaming shows on Itunes

Streaming shows on Hulu.com

I guess we can add Digital TV to the list too-LOL Unfortunately I can't cancel cable because I'm a sports fanatic and all pro sports are on cable so there is no cancellation in my TV future

What about you?

I cancelled my subscription to Pay-TV six years ago this upcoming January 2nd after accumulating enough DVDs to watch them for more than a year (At the rate of four hours each evening). Three months earlier (September 30, 2006) I grew FED UP with Cable TV when I saw an air for Vi:censored:gra  ticked: :angryfire DURING A CHILDREN'S SHOW! :angryfire ticked:  I too was a Sports Fan, but I learned to do without (If there is a Game I want to see, there's a Sports Pub within walking distance of my house, a $6.00 Glass of beer is $123.00 CHEAPER than a month of Pay-TV!). :D And I know I'm not alone, in the last two years 3,000,000 Households have "Cut the Cord", a number that's certainly to rise next year after the next wave of price increases (Somebody has to pay for all those Sports Contracts by ESPN and other Sports networks). I don't miss it at all, the $65.00 I used to pay for Cable (in 2006) has since been re-allocated to purchase more DVDs, and all you have to do is look at my signature to see how well I have done with that money. :happyface

I'm in the same boat as Solomon as I like my sports so I need the sports channels. I dont have Netflix or ITunes and as far as Hulu goes, I'm disappointed with Hulu. I'm not impressed with the shows they have there, they dont have all the episodes on there and frankly, there "Classic shows" section isnt anything to brag about.

No, and I wouldn't really consider it.

I watch a lot of original series on cable (like USA, FX, Comedy Central) and Netflix or Hulu really aren't an acceptable substitute to me. Not to mention the History Channels (both of them), Science, Discovery, ESPN. I still consider my subscription a good value.

I don't watch that much TV so I never got cable to begin with. Used the $ I saved to buy TV shows I really wanted to see. The basic channels are enough for me.

I've had cable since 1988 and I have no intention of EVER dancelling it. As for the cost I don't really care since my brother pays all our expences-including my bills! (well, almost; I have medicare so "uncle Sam" foots all my medical bills)

OH Nuts!

I can't even get basic channels without cable.

I have a digital converter box on top of my analog TV. (All my friends scream at me to get some kind of flat screen ALREADY -but why should I - both the TV & converter box work together beautifully - when either croaks THEN I'll get a "small" 20 inch flat screen)

I have DirecTV and I really can't see myself without cable/satellite because, for one, I'm a HUGE Baseball fan so I need my MLB Network, and Fox Sports Detroit has my Tigers. That, and I don't really like to wait for my cable shows (Daily Show, Conan, etc.) to be posted online. Aside from all that, Me-TV gets most of my viewing.

Have had cable since 1985 and plan on keeping it.

It's reliable and I like the choice of stations. They have dropped some but so have Dish and DirectTV.

We don't have cable offered where we live but we do have Dish Network.
I would cancel it in a skinny minute IF we could get a couple of local channels but sadly we can't get anything. Watching anything online is not an option to us because we don't have DSL or anything even remotely fast for internet either so we are extremely slow and VERY limited.

When I moved to a new apartment earlier this year that was more expensive, I decided to just go with basic cable and I honestly don't miss cable that much. Just ESPN mainly. Everything else I want I can get online or by DVD

Well, we had no choice but to cancel our cable for a while, because we couldn't afford it. Brighthouse $150 a month, no thanks. Went without cable for about 8 months, then finally looked intp DirectTV and Dish Network. We would always say we would try to get cable before the holidays, so many great things on during then, didn't really want to miss it. So we got the basic package for DirectTV, only costs $8 to hook it up and I pay $55 a month. Nothing fancy, there are a few channels I miss that we had with BH that we don't have with Direct TV, but this is OK for now. At least we're watching real TV rather than checking out DVDs all the time from the library.

BTW, I don't do Netflix or Hulu or any of those because we don't have internet at the moment. I go to the library for that.

If Pay-TV wants me back two things will HAVE to happen:

1. They will have to offer their channels a-la-carte, that way I choose (and pay for) ONLY the channels I watch.

2. The "V-Chip" Law will have to be amended so that it INCLUDES COMMERCIALS, Parents should be able to block commercials they don't want their children to watch, since the advertisers show NO REGARD as to who is watching their ads. Commercials for "Adult Products" ticked: :angryfire (and you which ones I'm talking about) :angryfire ticked:  should NOT be aired at times when children are most likely to be watching!

My Comcast bill just all of a sudden went up from $117 to $144 and I decided to just send them $77 a month until I move out in May which will be the month I cancel and pay it off.

So it will be $77 in Dec, Jan, Feb, March, and April

You can blame the Sports Nets for those increases. ticked: :angryfire

I haven't heard what the rate increase will be in my area, but I wouldn't be surprised if it went to $150-160 a month. Considering what they are currently showing they can keep it. I only see the number of "Cord Cutters" INCREASING for 2013. I wouldn't be surprised to see the number of subscribers decreasing to the point where even with the rate increases, they begin to LOSE money.

I dropped Dish last October. Most evenings I could never find anything worth watching on the 250 or so channels. When I DID find something to watch, it was usually on a local station I can get for FREE with my rooftop antenna!

Plus, got fed up with the networks changing their formats... like, for instance, History Channel no longer showing history, BBC America rarely showing anything ACTUALLY from the BBC, The Learning Channel stopped showing informative programming, TV Land stopped, for the most part, airing classic TV shows, AMC started showing commercials and stopped showing classic movies... I could go on AND on!

I'm actually finding MORE to watch over my rooftop antenna than I did on Dish! Lots of interesting stuff on the subchannels, which I didn't get on Dish.

Not subscribed to any online streaming service either, mainly because my internet speed leaves a lot to be desired!

Actually, History Channel lives on, on the H2 channel. Strictly history, no reality shows. It's mostly on the higher levels, though.

I used to own a home in Mississippi, near Memphis, Tennessee and lived in a small housing developement in the countryside and the only choice for TV was Dish. This was in the late 1990's when the internet was still in its infancy and I could not get the local Big 4 network stations from Memphis.

The stupid thing was that my co-worker and friend also had Dish but could get local channels because he got them BEFORE they were dropped (I think because of some stupid legal disagreement). I complained to DISH to no avail and their solution was to buy f*****g "rabbit ears", which I bought and totally did not work.    . If I had that house now, I would have shot that stupid satellite dish thing of the house already with a 12guage.

I live in China now and can get 90% of what I want to watch online, and I have less choices that people do in the USA (I cannot get YouTube because of China, nor can I get Hulu or any network website because they cannot stream content outside of the USA:mad:    !). But I watch everything free, no commercials, no BS, just the show. Not to mention most movies new and old.

So, no, I would not buy cable, nor do I think I would even use the television. I have read now that the cable company has gotten wise to this and require both cable and internet together, or more or less, one cannot get internet alone. Glad they dont pull that crap here.

And that's the problem. If you want to watch that channel, you have to shell out more money, and receive a bunch of channels you don't want, just to get to the programming you want to see.

I have a feeling 2013 is not going to be a good year for the Pay-TV Companies.
