20???

You don't know how many times I seen on someone's dating profile that they love the Golden Girls and the girl will be 23 years:lol: So how does a show about 4 woman in their 60's appeal to someone who is 23 years old?

I think this show has a mass appeal, but I am biased because this is one of my all-time favorite shows ever, and I think one of TV's absolute finest!!! :D

I grew up watching this show and loving this show, and along with being HILARIOUS, and very well-written and acted, I find this show very comforting.

There's just something about this show that I can't explain. It's a staple in my day...(or it used to be when I could watch it on Hallmark and WE TV mornings and nights. I'm having Golden Girls withdrawals!!! I can't wait until January when it's back on the schedule!!)

Anyway, this show was just pure genius in my opinion. Honestly, I don't see how anyone--male/female/young/old--could not fall in love with this show. To this day, after seeing each episode probably more than 10 times each, it still makes me burst out laughing.

I know that doesn't really answer your question, but that's why in my 20s, I've been watching this show since I was like 5 and I don't ever plan on stopping. :D

Have you ever watched the show? It's flipping amazing!!!! How could anyone not love this show?!?! It's HILARIOUS!!!

You don't necessarily have to have something in common with a show or the characters to enjoy or relate to it.

Although I do think the characters and their situations are relatable. I think we all know someone who is a Rose or a Blanche or a Sophia or a Dorothy or all of those characters in different combinations. I know most women can see a little bit of themselves in those characters. I know I'm most definitely a Rose!! I have Dorothy and Sophia moments though!!

The show was comedy at its finest in my opinion. Who wouldn't love that?

I preferred the Susan Harris-written episodes. Some of the later ones got vulgar. Try The Engagement to get the flavour of the show.

What do you mean when you say the episodes got vulgar?

Far too many anecdotes to quote, but there was Dorothy and Stan in a car and she reached for what she thought was the handbrake, there was a soft porn calendar, which in my opinion was a shame the direction the show took as I prefer family entertainment which I always thought was Susan Harris's original intention of the show, not the characters taken over by professional Hollywood writers whose sole intention was making a fast buck.

Blanche was in her 50s and Sophia was 80- so two were in their 60s. ;)

The show does appeal to different audiences- there's a book out detailing why gay viewers love the show.

As for "vulgarity," the show always was risque. The show, in general, was not quite as strong in the last few years as it was in the first several- and the forced, predictable jokes were part of that.

I'm not quite sure what point you're making with your first sentence. A search engine has elicited the following definition for the two words:

risque-hazardous,risky,verging upon impropriety, dangerously close to,or suggestive of what is indecent or of doubtful morality.

vulgar-1.Lacking sophistication or good taste,unrefined.
2.Making explicit and offensive reference to sex or bodily
functions;coarse and rude.

Thinking back to The Engagement I believe Sophia made such references as alluded to in 2. and so Susan Harris is guilty of vulgar touches. The characters in the early episodes had some credibility, before they were hijacked by professional Hollywood writers more concerned with making money than offering the viewer a sense of community, proportion and reality.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I have a theory (beyond "it's freaking awesome", which it is!!)

I'm a girl in my 20s and when I was younger they showed GG on Lifetime all morning every day, usually with The Nanny. My grandma loved this show and my cousin and I spent a lot of time with her, so often we'd watch it together. I grew up with GG. I continued to enjoy it as I got older and understood more of the jokes. I would guess that many of these girls in their 20s also grew up watching it with an older relative closer to the ages of the main characters and since it's such a great show, they still love it. GG has staying power, that's for sure.

...and cream of wheat is spicy!! That episode is HILARIOUS!!!

The quote from my old signature came from that episode:

ROSE NYLUND:
[describing what she saw] And at the information desk was this huge train schedule. And next to every departure it said "Destination: Heaven." My first thought was, "Gee, what a great title for a movie!" My second thought was "Damn! I'm dead!"

You would love that show, Sol!! Give it a chance!!!

Just bumping to say, TVFactFan, you should really watch The Golden Girls. It airs from 9-11pm central time and 10pm-12am eastern time on Hallmark Channel weeknights. The show is very clever and witty. I say try the earlier seasons first, as I prefer them, but you might like the later seasons better.
