No, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. The much-anticipated debut of the US's newest classic TV subchannel Cozi TV will happen at least a week earlier than expected. Cozi TV will replace the falsely-named NBC Nonstop (because now it will!:lol: ) this Thursday December 20 with a lineup of classic TV series from the 50s to the 70s with sitcoms that are mostly public domain content but are still worth watching. The first week will feature mainly Christmas episodes including 5 straight episodes of "The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet" beginning with "Late Christmas Gift" which will officially launch the new network at 6:00 am. At first glance, I would say that looks a lot better than TV One! :lol: :lol:

Having seen the program lists for the first week, I can't see a big pattern emerging as to what shows will be on what times. You'll have to tune in to see or look it up here (http://www.cozitv.com/tv-listings/) but so far I'd have to say it sounds promising.

Eh. It looks ok, I guess. When I try to see if I get Cozi TV it says that its NBC Digital Weather. I'm assuming that changes on Dec.20.

I typed my zip code into the channel locator and it looks like I'll be able to get it. That's a shocker. I'm looking forward to seeing Ozzie and Harriet. I like that show, but have only seen it on DVD.

Is it a goal for this network to eventually go nationwide? if so, why don't they just buy out RTV? There is NO way 4 classic/retro OTA digital networks will survive.

I've been watching, too.
I watched the 2-part Lassie Christmas Story. Timmy was older so it was from the later seasons.
I also like their promos: brief 1-minute clips of future shows like Charlie's Angels during commercials.
The picture quality of the Marcus Welby clip they showed looked better than when I watched it last on RTV. I may have to start re-recording it again.

Got it on right now, the aspect ratio seems weird

I had the same problem. There were black bars on all 4 sides of the picture so it looked like it had a frame. I get the channel through my DVR which has a digital tuner. I changed the aspect ratio on my dvr from 4:3 letterbox to 4:3 pan & scan and now the black bars are gone and the picture fills the entire screen and looks normal now.

I think I have the black bar problem as well. I have watched only a little bit of it today because I'm not really a fan of the shows they have on. But again, I'll give some of these shows a shot. Cant really make a judgement call on the channel as its only been on less than a day.

Five gets you Ten those "Black Bars" are the future site of on-screen advertising (That's "Pop-Ups", Scrolls and Banners for those of you in Rio Linda!). :angryfire I think I'll pass. NBC wants to put RTV, Antenna TV and ME-TV out of business, then they'll do a "TV Land" and we'll end back on Square One. :mad: There isn't anything they are showing that I can't find on DVD in one form or another. :lol:

So far, I like cozi TV. I watched it on NBC LA 4.2.

What happened to the theme song on petticoat junction. It wasn't on the Xmas episode.

I am watching Cozi TV on a standard old fashioned 4:3 aspect ratio TV from Time Warner Cable (NYC), checked with a friend viewing with FIOS but still on a standard old TV. It is UNWATCHABLE because we are getting the black bars only on screen left and right (none on top or bottom) so it is stretching the picture, yet only the promos are airing full screen. I emailed them and am awaiting a reply. I have no DVR, so hense no way of changing the aspect ratio especially on what I prefer as I have three working old standard ratio TV's because between Antenna TV, Me-TV & my classic DVD collection I have no use or need to own one as 75% of what I view was produced before 1980 besides being an avid news watcher.

For the poster who mentioned not hearing the original theme on certain sitcoms, namely "Beverly Hillbillies", for this "soft launch" about 75% of the programs are Public domain episodes that you can find at any dollar store on DVD with the original music replaced.

I love this idea of Cozi, but so far, between it being a very cheap launch, again it is unwatchable to the classic hardcore audience it is geared towards, as most "classic" watchers find no need to see the cameras or a view as if you were in the studio audience because the show is being broadcast and produced in 16:9. Those TV's & HD are designed for Sports, not I Love Lucy. I hate that standard 4:3 TV's have vanished, I hope someday (like vinyl records & players are enjoying a comeback) that nostalgia will make some company produce wooden cabinet TV's!

Could the aspect ratio be some kind of glitch they'll straighten out.I don't have this channel yet,but it sounds interesting.

COZI is a mix of classic TV and original programming produced by NBC (programs like First Look). It's not full on classic TV like Antenna and MeTV. They have added some affiliates beyond the NBC owned stations.

There is plenty of library product to go around. Bionic Woman, Six Million Dollar Man are some series that haven't been on TV in ages. We will do a story on the actual launch schedule this week. All this right now is a soft launch using A LOT of public domain stuff, but it won't be be like that during actual launch.

They didn't drop a weather channel. They dropped the name of NonStop but all of the shows will air on COZI.

Can you explain how to do that? I have Fios and can't watch it with the black bars all around the picture.

I don't have Fios, so I'm not sure how to change the settings for Fios.
Me personally, I have a remote control for my DVR. I pressed set-up on the remote and went to settings - video and changed the aspect ratio.
Do you have a remote where you can change the settings?

I apologize. I stand corrected. In my area, it used to be a weather channel, NBC Connecticut, which was a 24 hr. weather station and that became COZI TV.

You know I have a 32 history in television and even when they are duplicating the 7PM news hour in NYC on both NBC & Cozi, you can clearly see that when the picture is fullscreen it still is stretched on Cozi only. There is no difference technically between Antenna TV & Cozi (except perhaps Cozi is broadcasting the HD feed) and Antenna doesn't have a HD feed. I know as explained in my detailed post (my first in 6 months or so) but as usual no solid replies. I am watching on 3 4:3 TV's but even when I feed it through my vcrs and dvd recorders that do have aspect ratio choices, it will not change the feed so all programming either has reversed letterbox (screen left & right) while top and bottom remain full and stretched, again the promos seem fine. Anytime you can weigh in on this it will be appreciated.....Happy New Year!

Just saw what you were talking about. I have a 32 inch TV also and when I watch in 4:3 mode the screen is smaller but when I choose the Cinema Zoom 1 mode the picture expands a little wider. That is the only channel I ever seen like that.

Thanks TVFactFan, I may not really watch that much Cozi, but it is aggraviating me because as you said "I have never seen a channel broadcast like that as standard) and as I posted I spent 32 years working in television. This is the way Cozi is broadcasting the channel to all providers, I have confirmed with Time Warner, FIOS and now you Comcast. There is no reason that the promos are fullscreen yet all classic programs are unwatchable thus unrecordable.

You never know, maybe 4 stations could survive. What do we have now.
I have Metv, Tvland which isn't that great in shows before 1985, Hallmark has a few old shows, and This tv has a few oldies. With the awful current shows, many older people, I hate to think I am older, would like to see the shows of the past. I think the tv world can take it.
