HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive "All My Children" & "One Life To Live" After Deals With SAG-AFTRA & DGA
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Monday December 17, 2012

Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas "All My Children" and "One Life To Live" online.

I hear the company behind USA hit "Royal Pains" has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

While the online venture was formally dead, I hear Rich Frank & Jeff Kwatinetz (Prospect Park) never lost hope, and had been quietly working since the summer on putting their plan back together and had been talking with the guilds, resulting in agreements with SAG-AFTRA and DGA.

(The status of talks with WGA is unclear.)

I hear there are preliminary discussions with actors from "All My Children" and "One Life To Live" to rejoin the revived shows.

Prospect Park refused to comment.

"All My Children" & "One Life To Live" Revival Update: Location, Format, Fi-Core Writers
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Monday December 24, 2012

There has been a lot of chatter online since we last week broke the story that Prospect Park has resurrected its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas "All My Children" and "One Life To Live" online. Here is what I’ve learned.

Still no firm production start date, but the hope is to get filming underway by February in Stamford, CT. Talks are underway with cast members and executive producers though no deals are done.

(Last year, Prospect Park had locked in "One Life To Live’s" executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati but they jumped to ABC’s "General Hospital" after Prospect Park’s initial effort to keep "AMC" and "OLTL" alive failed.)

Both "All My Children" and "One Life To Live" would feature 30-minute episodes vs. 60 minute for their recent run on ABC.

("OLTL" actually started off in a half-hour format before expanding to 45 minutes and then an hour.)

After clinching deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA, which paved the way to getting "All My Children" and "One Life To Live’s" revival back on track, I hear the producers plan to forgo an agreement with WGA and use “financial core” writers, i.e. scribes who have given up full membership in the guild in order to work on the shows.

(Coincidentally, five years ago it was soap writers on CBS’ "Young & The Restless" who went fi-core during the WGA strike to be able to continue to work on the daytime drama series.)

Like the first time, Prospect Park is pursuing a traditional TV second window for the soaps, possibly on cable.

Sources tell Digest that Jennifer Pepperman, who was a coordinating producer at "OLTL", and directed at "OLTL" and "ATWT", where she won an Emmy, has been tapped as the new Executive Producer of "OLTL" for the Web reboot.

In other PP news, in addition to Lindsay Hartley (ex-Cara, AMC) reportedly inking a deal to appear on "AMC", we're hearing the company has reached out to three other big name Pine Valley stars and has its sights on some "OLTL" biggies, too.

You’re not dreaming, brainwashed by Mitch Lawrence or doped up on Libidozone: "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" shall return.

Breaking its silence after weeks of rumors and leaks, Prospect Park on Monday formally announced their latest — and firmed-up — plan to relaunch the defunct ABC sudsers, which will both base production out of New York City-adjacent-ish studios in Stamford, Conn.

Here’s the entertainment company’s official press release:

We are pleased to confirm that Prospect Park is reviving the beloved soap operas, "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" as the anchor programs on The Online Network (TOLN).

Today we are also pleased to confirm that Prospect Park has:

1) Signed guild agreements with both SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) and the DGA (Directors Guild of America).

2) Entered into a consulting agreement with Agnes Nixon the creator of "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" guaranteeing her active involvement.

3) Hired Foz McDermott (coordinating producer "Heroes") as TOLN’s head of production, Jennifer Pepperman (Director, "One Life to Live") as Executive Producer on "One Life to Live", and Ginger Smith (Producer, "All My Children") as Executive Producer on "All My Children".

4) Arranged the necessary financing to begin production in February on both "All My Children" and "One Life to Live".

We thank the loyal audience and new generation of fans of both shows who have demonstrated that passion and exciting story lines are not just reserved for traditional television.

Their enduring support encouraged us to move forward each and every day. We look forward to sharing more details including our launch air date and additional specifics in the coming weeks.

Prospect Park has yet to announce which actors will be joining the revivals, but as TVLine reported, "All My Children" vets Lindsay Hartley, Vincent Irizarry and Debbi Morgan have inked deals to reprise their roles.

"All My Children", "One Life to Live" to Premiere in the Spring on iTunes, Hulu
1/25/2013
by Lesley Goldberg

"All My Children" and "One Life to Live" are returning in the spring and will launch online on iTunes, Hulu and Hulu Plus in addition to their home on The Online Network.

Each half-hour episode of the beloved soap operas will be introduced each weekday in the spring, with an exact date to be announced later.

Officially revived by Prospect Park and its The Online Network, the agreement will allow Hulu to manage advertising sales for both shows and package integrated sponsorship opportunities. "AMC" and "OLTL" will both be promoted on Hulu and its premium service, Hulu Plus.

“I believe that both Hulu and iTunes have the vision, the reach and the technology to help us launch TOLN in a significant way,” Prospect Park chairman and CEO Jeff Kwatinetz said in a statement announcing the news Friday.

“We think these platforms are part of history, helping us to transform distribution. Hulu’s reach, platform and advertising prowess are best in class, and iTunes provides an incredible way to buy TV shows that is second to none. Through both of these partners, we hope daytime drama fans are absolutely delighted to be able to watch their favorite programs in a broadcast-quality HD format wherever and whenever they want.”

"OLTL" Reboot Forces Howarth, Easton, Alderson off "GH" — How Might ABC Hold Onto Them?
by Matt Webb Mitovich
2/1/13

John McBain is soon to be McGone from "General Hospital‘s" Port Charles. As will fellow Llanview transplants Todd and Starr.

Daytime TV vet Michael Easton took to his Facebook page on Friday morning to advise fans not to send anything to the ABC soap’s studio for his Feb. 15 birthday, because by then he’ll no longer be hanging his hat there.

"I’ve been informed that, due to some ongoing legal issues, that I cannot be at General Hospital after February 8th. I'm honestly not sure what the future holds, but I think it's going to take some time and some very bright people to resolve it."

The legal matters to which Easton referred stems from the upcoming Hulu/iTunes relaunch of "One Life to Live", where John, Todd and Starr originated. When the media company Prospect Park announced its new plan to revive both "OLTL" and "All My Children", it was with the proviso that it owns and thus has first dibs on the sudsers’ characters — even on those that have since relocated to "GH".

Though McBain seems fated to return to "OLTL‘s" Llanview, that does not necessarily mean that Easton will be playing him, since the ex-"OLTL" actors’ deals are not with Prospect Park but ABC.

SoapOperaDigest.com has confirmed that Roger Howarth (Todd) and Kristen Alderson (Starr) must also leave "GH" — at least for the time being.

ABC released a statement to Digest saying, "General Hospital is excited about Michael Easton, Kristen Alderson and Roger Howarth staying on the show and we are exploring ways to allow that to happen."

Prospect Park 'Willing to Equally Share' "OLTL" Characters with "GH": 'It's a Win-Win for the Actors'
by Matt Webb Mitovich
2/1/13

Talk about your daytime drama.

A half a day after word got out that Michael Easton, Roger Howarth and Kristen Alderson would need to exit ABC’s "General Hospital" so that the characters of John, Todd and Starr could resume an existence on the to-be-relaunched "One Life to Live", Prospect Park — the media company backing the Hulu/iTunes reboot of "OLTL" (as well as "All My Children") — issued a statement shedding light on the unusual matter.

“Prospect Park understands that General Hospital has featured Llanview transplants Michael Easton (John) and Kristen Alderson (Starr) among others while we arranged production of the new version of One Life to Live.

These characters, who we own under our agreement, are obviously essential to our production efforts, and a large reason we licensed the program. We also understand that legions of General Hospital fans have grown to love these actors and characters in a short time.

So even though we are paying ABC millions of dollars to license the shows, we have been, and continue to be willing to equally share the characters with General Hospital and ABC.

It’s a win-win for the actors, the shows and fans, who love all of the shows and storylines. We hope to work out these agreements with ABC and the actors.”

That's much better. I am happy with that decision as well. It might have been costly for PP in the long run if they tried to be selfish. If the characters had new actors playing them, there could have possibly been a problem as the actors that play them have been so well known by the public.

Roger Howarth To Reprise his Role on "One Life To Live" While Keeping "GH" Gig
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Monday February 25, 2013

One of "One Life To Live‘s" most popular characters, Todd Manning, will be back, at least for a while. I’ve learned that Roger Howarth, who portrayed the character on the ABC soap, has signed to reprise his role on the series’ revival for Prospect Park‘s Online Network.

But that doesn’t mean Howarth will be departing ABC’s "General Hospital", where his character migrated after the end of "OLTL". I hear Howarth has signed on to film "OLTL" for four weeks starting in late March.

He then is expected to go back to "General Hospital" and continue as Manning.

Howarth is one of three "OLTL" actors who segued to "GH" after the show ended in January 2012, along with Michael Easton and Kristen Alderson.

The three had been the subject of legal wrangling between Prospect Park and ABC as Prospect Park made it clear it wanted the actors back on "OLTL", though it indicated it was willing to make a compromise by sharing the characters with ABC’s "GH" as the company is in a multimillion-dollar licensing agreement with the network for its two online soaps, "OLTL" and "AMC".

For now, Howarth appears to be the only actor to have worked out such an arrangement.

Scoop: Alicia Minshew Set for "All My Children" Encore — But There's a Catch
by Matt Webb Mitovich
3/7/13

Get happy-ish, “Zendall” fans — Alicia Minshew is on board for "All My Children‘s" Hulu/iTunes reboot, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The catch: Sources tell us that Minshew is at this time set for just a one-episode cameo as Kendall, taping this week — though the actress remains in talks to return in a short- or long-term capacity.

(Prospect Park, which is producing the relaunched AMC, could not immediately officially confirm Minshew’s encore)

Minshew’s Pine Valley love interest, Thorsten Kaye (Zach), is among the regulars.

Production on AMC (and OLTL) episodes began on Feb. 25 with an eye on a springtime premiere on Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes.

Since AMC wrapped its broadcast run on ABC, Minshew has completed two independent films: Lies I told My Little Sister and Desires of the Heart (where she plays the female lead).

She is next slated to costar in the film Here and Now, playing the grand dame of a small town’s community theater.

Multiple sources tell TV Guide Magazine that the trio of former "One Life to Live" stars — who've been embroiled in a tug-of-war between ABC and Prospect Park, the company that's producing the upcoming OLTL reboot — will soon return to GH after being forced to vacate the show for several weeks.

But here's the kicker: It seems we'll no longer see Easton as John McBain, ditto Howarth as Todd Manning or Alderson as Todd's daughter Starr. ABC doesn't want to risk any more legal entanglements with Prospect Park, which currently owns the rights to all OLTL characters, and the only way to do that is to have the three stars play characters that in no way resemble the current ones.

Word is, GH head writer Ron Carlivati is devising some clever ways to work around the headache, even though John, Todd and Starr are now tightly woven into Port Charles society and all three are involved in blooming romances.

"Prospect Park has been extremely difficult to deal with on this issue so GH basically said, 'Screw it! We'll create all new characters!'" notes one source privy to the situation. "It's the only way GH can get past the problem and get on with business."

Neither GH nor ABC will confirm this wild development, but no one's denying it, either.

"I can't really comment for legal reasons," says GH exec producer Frank Valentini. "It's not like I'm trying to keep a secret. ABC doesn't want me to say anything."

We also asked ABC Daytime chief Vicki Dummer to comment on the matter but she only coughed up a cryptic, "All I can really say right now is...stay tuned."

Waiting for the fur to stop flying "has been crazy," says Thom Racina, one of the head writers of the new OLTL.

"First it was, 'Yes, we have these actors,' then it was, 'No, we don't have them.' I don't know that any show has ever gone through this kind of thing before. It's a very unique situation what with all these legal issues between the two parties but we came out of it very happily. You'll see."

We have no doubt that Carlivati —whose work on GH has been simply stellar — is the perfect guy to pull off this magic trick. Besides, if we soap fans can accept evil twins and peeps coming back from the dead, we can certainly get past a few sudden identity changes, right?

"I think it's going to turn out well for everybody," Racina says of the brouhaha. "The soap audience, as we know, is very forgiving."

It's Official: "OLTL" Actors to Return to "GH" in May
by Megan Masters
4/12/13

Three of "One Life to Live‘s" finest are once again "General Hospital"-bound — albeit as completely different characters.

As first rumored back in March, suds vets Roger Howarth, Michael Easton and Kristen Alderson — each of whom brought their OLTL alter egos to GH following the former’s swan song — are slated to return to ABC’s sole surviving soap on May 10.

The catch: The trio will no longer be portraying Llanview’s Todd Manning, John McBain and Starr Manning, respectively.

“Exciting storylines full of mystery and intrigue are planned to usher in the return of these actors that will lead to the answer of one of the most asked questions in Port Charles,” an ABC spokesperson said Thursday in a statement.

Prospect Park, the production company behind the upcoming online versions of OLTL and AMC, initially proposed sharing the three characters with ABC and GH, as they were said to be “essential” to the revival’s “production efforts, and a large reason the company licensed the program.”

An agreement, however, was never successfully reached.

Howarth, for his part, is set to reprise his role as Todd for several weeks at the start of OLTL‘s relaunch, which begins April 29 on both iTunes and Hulu.

Snoop Lion is Writing a New Theme Song for "One Life to Live"
Apr 12, 2013
by Natalie Abrams

When "One Life to Live" returns, it'll come with a new feel to say the least.

Prospect Park and The Online Network have partnered with Snoop Lion (formerly know as Snoop Dogg) for a new theme song for "One Life to Live".

Snoop, who previously appeared on the soap when it was on ABC, will write and produce the new theme song, titled 'Brand New Start', and will appear on the track alongside Iza Lach.

Additionally, Snoop will actually appear as himself on several episodes of the revamped series when he visits Llanview to promote his new Indie film, Reincarnated, which documents his journey from Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion.

"We're thrilled to have the support of such an iconic artist, like Snoop Lion," said Jeff Kwatinetz, Chairman and CEO of Prospect Park.

"To have him write and produce the theme song for this series and to have the amazingly talented Iza Lach on board, is just incredible. We are extremely grateful and excited for fans to hear the new theme song and of course catch Snoop Lion in upcoming episodes."

Rapper Riff Raff To Parody James Franco on "One Life to Live"
by John Mitchell
Apr 12 2013

In what might be the most meta event in the history of daytime TV, rapper Riff Raff will appear on an upcoming episode of "One Life to Live" as a shady Miami art dealer named “Jamie Franko,” an obvious nod to Oscar-nominee James Franco’s own appearance as an artist on "General Hospital".

Adding another layer of self-referential fuel to the fire, Riff Raff has claimed that Franco’s character in the controversial movie Spring Breakers is based on him — a charge Franco has (kind of) denied.

Got all that?

While Franco did admit, in an interview with GQ, that Riff Raff “was one of a number of people we looked at” for inspiration for his character, a cornrows’d, gold-toothed hustler named Alien, he has said a Florida rapper named Dangeruss was his real muse.

Franco elaborated on Dangeruss’ impact on his character in the Harmony Korine-directed film at length in a self-penned story for MTV.

Riff Raff has been pretty public with his feelings about Franco’s public statements, so it’s no surprise that the rapper’s cameo, which he filmed April 10 on the Connecticut set of OLTL, is being perceived as a knock against the actor.

"One Life to Live" returns with daily 30-minute webisodes available through Hulu and iTunes on April 29.

If you are curious to see how Riff Raff’s guest arc plays out, his episode will air on May 7.

"All My Children", "One Life to Live" Land Weekly Recap Shows
4/17/2013
by Lesley Goldberg

The Online Network is expanding "All My Children" and "One Life to Live".

The web series -- which bow April 29 on Hulu and iTunes -- will launch original weekly recap shows starting Friday, May 3, producer Prospect Park announced Wednesday.

The weekly recap shows -- fittingly titled "MORE One Life to Live" and "MORE All My Children" -- will offer a behind the scenes look at the rebooted beloved soap and highlight memorable moments from each series.

Original half-hour episodes of the soaps will run Mondays through Thursdays online. The Friday half-hour recaps -- hosted by former KABC anchor Leslie Miller -- hail from Tomorrow Productions' Marc Victor and will include interviews with the casts.

An interactive component allows fans to interact with the talent via Twitter and Skype as the recap entries will also feature lifestyle segments including fashion, beauty and relationship advice.

"We are truly excited about the opportunity to offer our passionate and loyal fans with yet another vehicle to connect with their favorite stars," Prospect Park founders Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinez said in a statement announcing the news.

"Creating relevant content that matters to our viewers has always been our goal -- this series, produced by some of the best in the business, will be anchored by entertaining segments that will be conversation starters and will be another way for our audience to get up close and personal with these two beloved series."

LEGAL SOAP OPERA: Prospect Park Sues ABC for $25M over AMC/OLTL Licensing Agreement
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Thursday April 18, 2013

One week before Prospect Park is set to launch online soaps AMC and OLTL, the production company today filed a breach of contract lawsuit against ABC, which licensed the shows to Prospect Park, the company of Jeff Kwatinetz and former Walt Disney studios president Rich Frank, two years ago.

In the complaint, which was filed with the LA Superior Court, Prospect Park claims that ABC has been breaking the licensing agreement and sabotaging Prospect Park’s efforts to continue AMC and OLTL online. Requesting a jury trial, the suit seeks damages of at least $25 million from Disney-owned ABC.

The lawsuit won’t derail the plans for the AMC and OLTL re-launch on April 29.

“These shows will go forward, and Prospect will address its rights in Court,” the suit said. “Regardless of how successful Prospect may be, the fact remains that ABC did not deliver what it promised, Prospect did not get what it paid for, and Prospect is now entitled to recover millions of dollars in damages for ABC’s egregious conduct.”

The lawsuit follows a couple of months of building-up tensions and threats of legal action between Prospect Park and ABC over the OLTL actors who had been starring on ABC’s "General Hospital" since the cancellation of OLTL by ABC.

Prospect Park attempted to get them back, which created a standoff with ABC. The last straw came last week when ABC announced that OLTL‘s Kristen Alderson, Michael Easton and Roger Howarth will return to GH on May 10, presumably as new characters.

According to the lawsuit, after taking over AMC and OLTL in 2011, Prospect Park, in “a gesture of good will”, allowed ABC “to borrow seven OLTL characters to appear on a limited basis” on the network’s soap "General Hospital" for the actors playing them can have employment.

The suit says that, despite having the characters on a temporary basis, ABC signed the actors playing them in long-term deals, making their return to OLTL difficult and “effectively removing any incentive for them to do so.”

(Howarth recently made a short-term deal with Prospect Park to do a stint on OLTL before returning to GH.)

Prospect Park claims that in the arrangement with ABC, they retained “approval rights over ABC’s use of the OLTL characters, but for over a year, ABC outright failed and refused to consult with Prospect on any storylines involving these characters, rendering Prospect’s approval rights meaningless.”

With that, “in the ultimate act of bad faith”, ABC inexplicably killed off two OLTL characters (Cole and Hope Thomas) on loan to GH by having their car forced off a cliff.

ABC effectively killed another OLTL character Thomas Delgado, who was not even licensed to ABC, “and made it near impossible to keep him without alienating the fans” by “claiming” that this long-standing OLTL character is in fact another character on GH.

Prospect Park also claims ABC breached the two sides’ licensing agreement by refusing to hand over to Prospect Park the URLs for the two soaps the company had purchased, onelifetolive.com and allmychildren.com.

“These URLs are not only critical to establishing public awareness for the re-launch, but they are part of the rights paid for by Prospect.”

The lawsuit also claims that ABC recently threatened not to air ads for OLTL because they feature an actor who is now playing a new role on GH.

Despite the fact that ABC retains some ownership in AMC and OLTL under the 2011 licensing agreement, Prospect Park argues that ABC is trying to sabotage the two shows’ success.

The complaint claims that “at least one ABC executive” involved in the decisions to how to handle OLTL actors on GH, “has openly declared his desire to see Prospect fail” and suggests that the network’s actions may be driven by “a basic fear of embarrassment if Prospect succeeds.”

"All My Children" & "One Life To Live" Change Air Pattern To Two Episodes A Week Each
Thursday May 16, 2013

For close to two years we have been working passionately to bring first run premium content to an online platform with the creation of brand-new versions of the two iconic series, "All My Children" and "One Life To Live".

There was no precedent for this effort- we had no history-no barometer for how our fans would respond. We always knew there would quickly be new insights into how audiences would respond to our shows and this new platform, and that our ability to adapt quickly to audience needs would ultimately determine the long-term success of the shows and our mission.

This is a new medium, a new time and we have always planned to make changes quickly by listening to you, our fans and customers.

Today it is clear these shows have resonated, as many millions of views have been logged since our April 29th debut, a mere two and a half weeks ago. We’ve consistently been in the top ten shows viewed on Hulu and viewers and critics alike have told us how impressed they are with the quality of both programs.

The past two weeks have been invaluable in terms of learning about how you watch and when you watch our shows on this new platform. We have gained enormous insight through our actual viewing data and our research. And our research has revealed the following:

- In the past these shows had their vast majority of views within the first 24 hours. Instead, our shows are primarily consumed on different days then when they originally air.

Primarily, fans have been binge viewing or watching on demand, and as a result, we feel we have been expecting our audience to dedicate what has turned out to be an excessive amount of time to viewing these shows.

(As an example, for the substantial audience only watching on the weekends, we are currently asking them to watch five hours of programming to keep pace with our release schedule).

- On ABC the shows shared a large percentage of their viewers with each other. Yet, the majority of our viewers are watching one show or the other, not both, and they aren’t viewing the shows when they did before.

Part of the reason for choosing between the shows may be that the largest viewing takes place either between 12PM and 1PM (when people generally can only fit one episode during lunch time) or between 5PM and 7PM (when the vast majority of competing shows are a half hour long).

We are finding that asking most people to regularly watch more than a half hour per day online seems to be too much.

- During their ABC runs, viewers watched only 2-3 episodes on average a week and picked up with whichever day’s episode it was. Our viewers seem to primarily start with the first episode and then continue forward episode by episode. Like with primetime serialized dramas as opposed to the traditional slower pacing of daytime, people feel lost if they miss an episode.

People are starting from the beginning; the shows are designed for complete viewing from episode one. Yet starting from the beginning with the amount of episodes we are releasing is asking too much for viewers who need to catch up.

The clear conclusion is that while somewhat mixed, these viewing patterns resemble more closely the typical patterns of online viewing rather than how one would watch traditional television.

This leads us to believe we are posting too many episodes and making it far too challenging for viewers to keep up. When it comes to online viewing, most of us are just trying to find time to watch series comprised of 13 to 22 episodes a season-so asking viewers to assign time for over 100 episodes per show is a daunting task.

Therefore, we have chosen to revise our scheduling model beginning this Monday, May 20th by introducing two new episodes from OLTL and AMC each week.

New episodes of AMC will now run on Mondays and Wednesdays, and fresh episodes of OLTL will post Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Our behind the scenes series, will run as a single show on Fridays.

This allows us to introduce a new episode of quality television every Monday through Friday and gives the audience a chance to catch up as we continue to build awareness and excitement around these new shows.

Because Hulu agrees with our findings, for the meantime they will keep all of our episodes on Hulu.com for free to give viewers the opportunity to find us and catch up.

We know our most dedicated viewers will be upset as they would probably prefer more shows to less (we personally wish there were more episodes of our favorite shows; we would love 50 episodes a year of Homeland, Mad Men or The Simpsons).

We apologize to these viewers and ask them to please understand we are trying to ensure our shows succeed and not meet the fate they experienced previously. We need to devise a model that works for all viewers and follows how they want, and are actually watching, online. When it comes to online, as with all new technology, it’s adapt or fail.

We feel fortunate to be an online company and to have such an opportunity to adapt. Of course, we will continue to evaluate all the data that comes in and will be vigilant about revising our strategy as needed.

We want to be clear that this will in no way impact our feverish pace of production – we will be filming new episodes through mid-June, continue editing throughout July and until we go back into production in August. It’s a frenetic schedule but all of us are up for the challenge and excited to continue to deliver great shows.

As a new venture we felt obligated to address the needs of our viewers head on and to make adjustments that we think will work for our viewers. And as always, we thank you for your continued support and encouragement.

Sincerely,
Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz

"All My Children", "One Life to Live" Stalled by Labor Dispute
6/5/2013
by Kimberly Nordyke , Jonathan Handel

Production on "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" has stopped a day earlier than planned over a dispute with IATSE, The OnLine Network said in a statement Wednesday.

As a result of a dispute with the IATSE, The OnLine Network is beginning a long-planned hiatus for both "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" tomorrow instead of June 17. The hiatus is scheduled to end on Aug. 12 pending resolution of this labor issue.

Right now we have 40 episodes of each show ready to post through September, and if we can resolve this issue by August, we can get back into the studio on time so audiences will enjoy uninterrupted postings of their favorite shows.

We believe we have met all contract requirements with IATSE, and as an internet start-up, and per our contract with the IA, we cannot afford, and our business model cannot sustain, traditional broadcast rates.

The writers, directors, actors and rest of crew have been supportive of the shows and our success. Both "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" consistently earn top rankings on both Hulu and iTunes since launch just over a month ago. The popularity of the shows is matched by the continued passion and excitement from the fans. We are committed to these shows, and to the nearly 300 jobs they produce, thus we are exploring every legal and logistical option to maintain our production schedule.

In response, IATSE Local 52 (NY) business representative Ray Fortune said that the union was in talks with representatives of the shows, and that he therefore would have no comment.

Prospect Park Resolves Dispute with IATSE over "All My Children" & "One Life to Live"
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Thursday June 20, 2013

"All My Children" and "One Life to Live" producer Prospect Park and IATSE Locals 52, 161, 600, 700, 764, 798 and USA829 have resolved the labor issues that led to the two soaps going on hiatus 11 days earlier than planned.

In light of the dispute, Prospect Park also was considering moving production of the two shows, based in Stamford, Conn., to another state. Now they will stay put and return to production as planned on August 12.

Speaking on behalf of the New York Production Locals, Local 600 rep David Blake said, “We are pleased that that the parties were able to successfully address their concerns in a mutually beneficial way, which will enable these innovative shows to continue to be produced with our talented crews.” Said Prospect Park’s Jeff Kwatinetz.

“We thank the entire IATSE organization for their continued support in bringing these shows to fans, and we especially appreciate the efforts of Chaim Kantor and John Ford and our entire crew for helping us to move forward as a unified team.”

IATSE had accused Prospect Park of going over $120,000 per episode budget, which would trigger higher rates for the crew, something the production company has denied.

No terms of the agreement are being released but I hear the two sides reached a compromise.

OWN To Air "All My Children", "One Life to Live"
by Lynette Rice
Jun 26 2013

The Online Network just scored a coup for its daytime soaps: OWN will air the first 40 episodes of "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" for a special 10-week run.

Half-hour episodes of each show will air Monday through Thursday on the Oprah Winfrey cabler beginning Monday, July 15. AMC will air at 1 p.m. ET/PT and OLTL at 3 p.m. ET/PT.

“These shows have proven to be very popular with a significant, loyal fan base, not to mention Oprah herself is a big fan,” said Erik Logan, president, OWN, in a statement. “Many of our viewers across numerous platforms have expressed their passion for the soaps so we are especially excited to air this limited engagement on OWN.”

“We are really excited to bring OWN viewers and our audience at large an opportunity to catch up on All My Children and One Life to Live on traditional television,” said Jeff Kwatinetz, CEO Prospect Park Networks in a statement.

“We look forward to our millions of fans enjoying the first 40 episodes of the shows.”

TON has been airing original episodes of the old ABC soaps since April 29. They are produced by Prospect Park, which bought the rights to both serials after ABC dumped them.

The deal with OWN should help offset the costs of producing AMC and OLTL and could be the start of a long-term relationship — assuming they perform well on Oprah Winfrey’s cable net.

I really like the new Pete [Robert Scott Wilson].

I'm just so happy to see the show back in the hands of people who want to see it work, people who really care about it. I'm also very happy for the fans, who have been so patient and so damn loyal. I'm praying the show finds its niche, not just for everyone who works on it and loves it, but for the TV industry in general.

Let's face it, internet programming is the future and that's where a lot of our favorite shows will wind up. But the person I'm happiest for is Aggie. This is her child, her legacy. AMC has so much of her heart in it and she's still fighting to make sure it has a place in this world. She so deserves success with this. No one in this business has affected my life as much as Agnes Nixon. I owe her everything.

And God bless Prospect Park for having the balls to make this happen. This is pioneering stuff and they're figuring everything out as they go along. So I hope everyone will be patient. Give it time!

Would you entertain the idea of going back for a visit?

Oh sure, not only would I entertain it, I feel it's my responsibility to go back at some point, at least for a little bit, to explain what happened to Tad.

You've left Cady McClain [Dixie] high and dry!

Now she knows how I felt. [Laughs] She died twice and was gone for ages. Now she knows what I had to deal with! I love Cady.

Wasn't it revealed that Tad's gone undercover?

Deep under cover! [Laughs] In my mind, he's working as a short-order cook for a Mexican drug cartel.

So you're really up for a visit? You're not just yanking our chains?

For sure I will be back. You know, the reason I didn't want to continue with AMC when Prospect Park took over was that I had done the show for 20 years straight and one move cross-country in two years was enough for me. I was tired!

Plus I felt I had done everything there was to do on the show. I came back from the dead. I was twins. I had amnesia. I did everything but give birth and marry Erica!

But I'm definitely up for a visit so, yeah, Tad will make his presence known in Pine Valley. Maybe not really soon but someday. And I mean that.

I was a big fan of All My Children and watched it for many years but I tried it on line for almost 2 weeks and I didn't really care for it.

CNN’s Jake Tapper Makes "All My Children" Acting Debut this Month
by DOMINIC PATTEN
Friday August 2, 2013

Well, Jeff Zucker did say that CNN was going to more broadly define what news was and it looks like it is going to more broadly define the sort of roles its reporters will play – at least once.

With "The Lead with Jake Tapper" up in the ratings, its host is branching out. Joining other CNN alumni like Wolf Blizter, who made a cameo in last year’s Skyfall among his many other feature appearances, and Larry King, Tapper is going dramatic.

As announced earlier this summer, the former ABC White House correspondent is going to show up on "All My Children". Tapper’s Pine Valley premiere and acting debut is set for August 12.

The on-screen opportunity emerged when Tapper went up to Connecticut to do a piece on the cancelled ABC shows new online life. Unlike Blitzer or King, Tapper won’t be playing himself. At least not in name.

Trying to interview the show’s character’s Brooke English (Julia Barr) and Dixie Cooney (Cady McClain), the CNN daytime anchor will be appearing on the online soap as Business News Update reporter Spencer Phillips, which sounds almost like a real cable news reporter’s name.

New episodes of AMC debut every Monday on Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes. After an unsteady start in mid-March, Tapper’s "The Lead" has seen rises. The show ended up topping its 4PM time slot in July among adults 25-54.

"One Life to Live" Suspended Indefinitely
Sep 3, 2013
by Sadie Gennis

It might be a while before your next trip to Llanview.

Prospect Park has suspended "One Life to Live" indefinitely while it settles a lawsuit with ABC, The Los Angeles Times reports. However, writers are still working on scripts for a second season of "All My Children", which also migrated from TV to Hulu this year.

Propsect Park CEO Jeff Kwantinetz told the paper that he hopes to resume production on AMC later this month.

During the time between OLTL's TV finale and its online premiere, many of the soap's characters appeared on ABC's "General Hospital". During this time, both Cole (Van Hughes) and Hope Thornhart (Caitlyn Buton) were killed in a car accident.

In the lawsuit, Prospect Park argues that the characters were on loan to GH and ABC sabotaged OLTL's online reboot by killing them. ABC defended its creative decision to kill off the OLTL characters, saying that they "acted reasonably and in good faith at all times."

The lawsuit is the latest bump in the road in the two soaps' online revivals. In May, a month after their premieres, Prospect Park cut down their weekly episodes from four to two to avoid overloading fans with content.

In June, the shows went on early hiatus due to a labor dispute that has since been resolved.

OLTL wrapped its first online season last month, while AMC's Season 1 finale was released Monday.

Isn't that the truth? All of this in-fighting seems to doom the project to failure...

Besides, Prospect Park sounds more like the name of a shopping mall than a production company, but I digress.

It's really stupid considering the writers can redo things. They are always bringing people back from the dead, look at A.J.

I'm not. I liked Cole and was disappointed when he was killed. I was not too crazy about that.

True, not that I had high hopes for it working in the long run anyway...

Sadly. I knew it wouldn't last. The show strayed too much from what OLTL was before it ended on ABC.

PP only had the cash to keep one soap. And, they kept the one with the highest ratings and better writing. Which was AMC.

AMC was still alot like it's former self. Actually better because it was alot like it was in the late 80s early 90s. Lots of social drama. OLTL was about hanging out in clubs and teens/twentysomethings getting high and drunk all the time and no real storylines. Other than the tattoo mystery thing which was boring as heck since Victor and Todd left.

I hate that it's gone. But, it's not really surprising to me at all.

And, I'm going to continue watching AMC when it comes back next season. Because, from what I could gather from the finale and from rumors. My favorite actor/character is back!!!!

This is not really a big surprise. I knew from day one that AMC and OLTL wouldn't last with online viewing. I'm a HUGE "Days" fan but if they made it exclusive to online I wouldn't fool with it anymore.

Soaps Producer Ramps Up ABC Lawsuit: 'Mega Soap' Fraud Scheme Alleged
11/13/13
by Matthew Belloni

Time for more melodrama in the battle over "One Life to Live" and "All My Children".

Prospect Park, which licensed the soaps from ABC with plans to relaunch them as web-only series, sued in April in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming that the network sabotaged the relaunch by, among other things, killing off key characters.

On Wednesday, the plaintiff filed a new amended complaint with more details of ABC's alleged fraud. According to the latest court papers, ABC schemed in a quest for a "megasoap."

After Prospect Park entered into a license agreement for all of the elements of the series, ABC is said to have asked to “borrow” certain OLTL characters for use on ABC’s remaining soap, "General Hospital", in a limited and short-term capacity.

"Yet, even before the ink dried on the parties’ agreement," says the amended complaint, "ABC began unilaterally changing key storylines and themes, literally killing some OLTL characters and deeply integrating others into the GH landscape, all to create a mega soap of GH behind Prospect Park’s back."

The lawsuit goes onto say that the "changes bewildered and alienated longtime OLTL fans. ABC even went so far as to induce the actors who had been playing some of the more popular characters on OLTL to sign secret, exclusive, multi-year contracts with ABC ― all without a word to Prospect Park."

Those contracts are alleged to have been used by ABC to "limit or prevent the actors’ return to OLTL once Prospect Park exercised its option rights."

The new allegations come after the parties engaged in discovery since the lawsuit was filed in April.

"We have developed an increasing amount of evidence from ABC," Prospect Park attorney James Maloney, a high-profile trial lawyer who has been involved in cases for Boones Pickins, as well as Shell and Penzoil. "The arrogance of ABC is simply amazing."

Prospect says that it has been damaged by such actions.

"Confronted with losing its entire investment or trying to pick up the pieces and press on, Prospect Park eventually produced one new season of OLTL and of AMC," says the lawsuit.

"But, the damage could not be undone, nor the fans reclaimed. As a consequence of ABC’s fraud and its multiple breaches of both the express terms of the parties’ contract and the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing included in every contract in this state, Prospect Park has sustained the loss of its investment of over $30 million, as well as the profits that it stood to make had ABC acted as the partner it had held itself out to be."

At the time of the original filing, ABC denied the claims.

“ABC remains very supportive of the online launch of both One Life to Live and All My Children,” the network said in a statement after the original suit was filed. “With respect to Prospect Park’s lawsuit, we believe the claims are baseless and we will defend them vigorously in court and not the press.”

While Prospect says its current legal action will not impact the planned re-launch of the soaps, the suit seeks more than $25 million in damages for breach of contract.

"This case was made for a jury," Maloney says. "A jury is going to be outraged by this conduct."
