I was reading in a book about the classic Groucho Marx show You Bet Your Life that George Fenneman was not the show's original announcer when it debuted on radio in 1947. The original announcer who only lasted a few episodes was the long-time voice of Art Linkletter's House Party, Jack Slattery. He was let go because the sponsor wanted someone new to promote their products.
