Gee, all these years, and I never knew Chip's real name.
He introduced himself to his girl's grandmother, and I found out something I never knew before.

There were at least a few episodes in the color seasons where Chip's name is given as Richard -- although I didn't recall the use of the O'Casey surname for his middle.

I first found out when Polly asked him what his real first name was. Chip was popular nick name for a boy back then. I use to work with a Chip.

I knew someone who used Chip instead of his real name Carl...!
With the exception of Barbara (Beverly Garland's character), most of the M3S regulars used nicknames on the series almost exclusively. For example, Dodie is rarely addressed by her real name, Dorothy.
The same was true for Family Affair: Bill, Cissy, Buffy, and Jody were all very informal -- and except maybe for Jody, nicknames "to be sure!"

In watching reruns of one of my favorite 60's series, "Combat!", I discovered Sgt. Saunders first name is Chip. (Lt Hanley's is Gil)
