I checked season 1 out of the Library a few days ago. I had forgotten a few things about the first season. Ron Glass was only a recurring player at first not a regular. Jack Soo did not appear in the opening credits although he was in every episode. Barbara Barrie was in the opening credits but she didn't appear in every episode. In one of the episodes Fish, and not Yemana, made the coffee! It's been fun being reminded of all these details and there were some great eps. in season one. I think my favorite was when Chano's appartment was robbed and he had to type up the report himself. He was embarassed to list his own name under "victim"!!

It is fun to go back to the beginning and see how the show progressed.

Barney Miller's family was (I think) suppose to be an important part of the series but the kids soon were phased out. Barbara Barrie made an occasional appearance at the station.

My library has the first three seasons and I've inquired about their getting the complete series for the New Year.

Happy New Year!

My library also has the first three seasons and I'm on season three now. I hope they get the complete series because I'd like to watch all the seasons now!

Yup, that was "The Bureaucrat", and David Wayne did a great job in his guest spot in the title role.

I too love Chano's Spanish rant (one of many) and when he finds the robber it is priceless.

Indeed, when i did a crossover that was essentially a prequel (as well as a sequel) season 1 made me wonder who the detectives were 2 years earlierand who might have just been officers like Levitt... then I decided to just do it and have an author's note explaining that Wojo (or anyone else) could easily have been up there helping someone on a call.

here's the finished product if anyone's interested - the Anissa Jones story is tragic but at least the character Buffy gets help. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8908956/1/We-ll-Have-Forever
