Reports are still coming in regarding a tragedy involving the Kansas City Chiefs, but here's what we know at this time. Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, at a house near the team's facility on Saturday morning. Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, who is on scene, confirmed the name of the player after speaking with local police.

After the shooting, Belcher drove to a location near the team's main campus and took his own life. Per the Kansas City Star, members of the team's staff tried to stop Belcher from committing any other acts of violence before the player turned a gun on himself. The Chiefs' Arrowhead practice facility was evacuated and is currently on police lockdown.

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reported that the mother of the murdered woman called police and told them that her daughter had been shot. Police arrived at the Chiefs' facility only to find Belcher in the parking lot with a gun to his head. As one officer got out of his car, he heard a gunshot. Belcher was later pronounced dead. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports said that Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel were among the team employees in the vicinity.

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, Chiefs players have been asked to assemble at the team's main facility so that they can be informed of all the details.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Carolina Panthers at Arrowhead at 1:00 PM ET Sunday, and per Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers have been told by the league to travel to Kansas City as if the game will be played. The Panthers' plane is set to leave at 1:15 PM ET today.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Police say Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Javon Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend early Saturday, then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager.

Police spokesman Darin Snapp confirmed it was Belcher, a fourth-year player from West Babylon, N.Y., who played college ball at Maine. The woman's name has not yet been released.

Snapp said Belcher shot the woman at a Kansas City residence, then drove to the Chiefs facility. He thanked Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel for all they had done for him, then shot himself.

The Chiefs say Sunday's home game against the Carolina Panthers will go on as scheduled.

Despite the suicide occurring at the same stadium just one day before the game, the Chiefs managed to beat the Carolina Panthers today, 27-21, for only their second win of the year. I give the entire Chiefs organization a lot of credit for getting through it and giving their all despite the national spotlight glaring on them and their own personal grief.

Absolutely tragic and horrible. Still don't know how they decided to play that game so soon after their player's death. But I'm pretty sure it had a lot to do with money.
