Am I the only one who does not give a rat's rear end about the Olympics? I have no interest in watching them at all and I'm mad because my favorite shows either won't be on or will be in reruns.

I have no interest in watching them at all and I'm mad because my favorite shows either won't be on or will be in reruns. FOLrocks1 02-06-2002, 08:22 PM I don't really care THAT much for them. I mean, sometimes I watch them, but mostly i don't! Kay Scarpetta 02-06-2002, 08:24 PM Well I love the Olympics. I live for them. I want to be IN them LOL. But on the other hand- I'm going to miss my shows!!! ER, Third Watch, Days of Our Lives, Passions, Crossing Jordan, Will and Grace, and OMG I'm going to die without ER. But I still love the Olympics :D Chocoholic 02-06-2002, 08:25 PM I want ER too! And Scrubs and Ed. ISmellFine 02-06-2002, 08:27 PM ...I'd die without ER. And I don't really care about the Olympics...I'd much rather watch ER. AHAHA. JDS84 02-06-2002, 08:39 PM I don't care about the olympics either. I would rather watch ER. Meg07945 02-06-2002, 08:49 PM I think the Olympics are neat. I love skiing, so I'll probably watch a lot of the alpine skiing. I could care less about the ice skating and hockey. I'll watch bobsledding and luge, that looks like fun. ks 02-06-2002, 08:54 PM I'm not much on the Olympics and the fact that they're preventing me from watching some of my favorite shows doesn't give them a big boost on my list either... ks Penny Lane 02-06-2002, 09:11 PM I never watch them either! dawsongirl 02-06-2002, 10:13 PM I used to watch them when I was younger, but now I don't care. They're not interrupting anything I watch, I just think they're boring. Max Whittaker 02-06-2002, 10:33 PM I've never been into the olympics. It's probably because it has something to do with sports. Never been into sports either. Kitt 02-06-2002, 10:42 PM Off topic: Meg said, "I could care less." People say it that way all the time so it isn't just Meg. What one means to say is, "I couldn't care less." You see, if someone were to ask you about the olympics or any other subject that you're completely uninterested in, your feelings about would be so void that you couldn't care less about it. Just had to toss into the soup. Max Whittaker 02-06-2002, 10:46 PM Originally posted by kittflynn Off topic: Meg said, "I could care less." People say it that way all the time so it isn't just Meg. Or at least some kinda teacher! Dang. That guys like, so smart. He'll probably like, invent something, then become a millionare, then live like Bill Gates! Cokies 02-07-2002, 02:55 AM Oh, I care about the Olympics, especially about the Winter ones. Ever since '94, It's been so much fun to see all the great Olympic moments, those of which are probably the best sports moments ever period. Kerri Strug- With the sprained ankle, taking home the gold for the 96 Gymnastic team. Gosh, I almost cried. And those post- ESPN commercials with her in them were hilarious. Dan Jansen-94 speed skater. FINALLY taking home a gold medal after all those years. And the best of em all... When Tonya Harding started crying her eyes out after her skate was supposedly loose, and she couldn't skate her program. Serves her right. Oh, and the whole Nancy Kerrigan, "Why me? Why me?" moofomoo 02-07-2002, 03:23 PM Originally posted by kittflynn Off topic: Meg said, "I could care less." People say it that way all the time so it isn't just Meg. Just had to toss into the soup. Sometimes I say "I could care less" meaning "I COULD care less, but I won't." So you never know what one could mean by that, unless they clear it up. I could care less about the Olympics...but that would mean the Olympics would have to be televised at 4 in the morning, when I couldn't care less what's on. Sweet, huh? (I'm sure you are correct, by the way, and Meg couldn't care less about the ice skating and hockey.) **moo, the occasionally enlightening** Liza 02-07-2002, 05:13 PM LOL, Gracie you crack me up! :rotflmao: K, my Olympic theory: Making them every two years was a really DUMB idea. (I know it's still 4 years in between winter/winter and summer/summer, but to the public it's every other year.) They're not special anymore - they're always on. When I was little they were such a big deal and everyone was talking about them. Now, it's just, oh Olympics AGAIN? Meg07945 02-07-2002, 07:31 PM LOL! ummm....well thanks for the English lesson, I guess. I dunno, I guess kittflynn is right, it makes sense. BUT when I say it, could care less is easier to say. I'm just lazy, lol:lol: Bootsy Whoosh 02-07-2002, 08:04 PM Liza stole the words right out of my mouth! The first thing I thought of was that they don't seem so special anymore. Of course, at the same time, I can see how having both in 1 year might be a bit much. Anyhoo, I do like the Olympics somewhat, though I am not overly into them. I prefer Summer to Winter just because I like the sports better for those. The thing I like about the Olympics is seeing amateur athletes playing for the love of it, not for the money. I have to slightly disagree with Liza, in that I think the biggest mistake the Olympic committee ever made was to allow pros to play. Dawsongirl, At least it doesn't keep us from watching Lucy!!!!!!! hehe! I don't care about this ER. I cannot stand the olympics! Kristina 02-08-2002, 01:49 PM It's not that the olympics annoy me, it's just I don't watch crap like that. As long as it doesn't interfere with L&S, I Love Lucy , and Leave It To Beaver it's alright with me. And what's with ER? All these new shows make me ill  Chocoholic 02-08-2002, 03:51 PM Originally posted by tootiefan4life And what's with ER? All these new shows make me ill  ER isn't new. It's in its 8th season. It's nowhere near as good as it used to be, but I still like it. I agree about most of the new stuff on nowadays being crap though. With all the changes there seems to be less excitement about the Olympics. I still enjoy watching them though. The skiing events are my favorite. patriot: DJM77 02-09-2002, 01:04 AM I honestly haven't watched any of the winter olympic games since the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding scandal in 94. Kay Scarpetta 02-09-2002, 01:26 PM Originally posted by DJM77 I honestly haven't watched any of the winter olympic games since the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding scandal in 94. What happened that time? Anyways, as none of you know, I'm practically addicted to the Olympics. I really plan on being in them someday too. I want to be the next Picaboo Street -sigh- DJM77 02-09-2002, 01:56 PM I only watched then because the scandal was such an interesting news story. Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding were figure skating rivals. Some guys that were asociated with Tonya Harding hired a hitman to whack Nancy Kerrigan in her knee after practice. Tonya Harding claimed to have no prior knowledge to the incident but never the less her image was tarnished forever. Nancy Kerrigans knee got better in time for competition. Kerrigan won the silver medal. Harding didn't do so well and ended up having an emotional breakdown when her skates came untied. Kay Scarpetta 02-09-2002, 02:05 PM Originally posted by DJM77 Harding didn't do so well and ended up having an emotional breakdown when her skates came untied. Oh.... I remember seeing that on TV. I remember that part. But anyways, God that's terrible. Hiring a hitman? My gosh. Some people can take competitions so seriously. I have to slightly disagree with Liza, in that I think the biggest mistake the Olympic committee ever made was to allow pros to play. Amateurism had long been called shamateurism before the IOC made official changes and caught up with and recognized the reality. Maintaining rules of amateur status in the olympics is not practical. To compete on a world class level as a track and field athlete, for example, isn't possible if the athlete treats it like a part time hobby. Same for speed and figure skating or skiing. Even snow boarders are being heavily sponsored. On the other hand our basketball 'dream teams' made for an unlevel playing field and took away the opportunity for the college players to compete. There's been talk about doing that with baseball (allowing major leagers to be on the team), but fortunately that hasn't happened, to my knowlege, because the idea clashes with the baseball season and with the contracts of the players and their respective pro teams. American olympic baseball teams have competed well fielding college players, so I hope they'll continue to field college players and never mind the pros. Bootsy Whoosh 02-09-2002, 02:58 PM kitt, Well perhaps our definitions of pro differs. I don't think that someone who has sponsors is a pro. I consider someone who gets paid for the sport in addition to having other income, such as sponsorships, to be pro. When I said they shouldn't have allowed pros to play, I was mostly referring to allowing the pro basketball players to play. When I said they shouldn't have allowed pros to play, I was mostly referring to allowing the pro basketball players to play. It used to be that sponsers weren't allowed unless the athlete put the money into a trust fund. That system was about as workable as the drug war, which is to say that it didn't work at all.The sponsers I'm talking about are paying in the neighborhood of hundreds of thousands of dollars to the athlete. So those athletes don't have or need other jobs. In track and field and in other sports the athletes are also payed, above board - unlike before when they simply found ways around the rules - appeance fees and for competeing or setting records and so on. Personally I think that's all fine and really couldn't work any other way. The basketball situation is different, and besides that isn't any fun to watch a bunch of really big guys clobber their opponents by scores like 100 to 25 or some dang thing. Mijada 02-09-2002, 04:30 PM To those of you who can't stand the Olympics, don't worry. You only have to put up with them for 15 more days. Anyways you should at least try and watch them. Some of the events are really cool. I was watching some skiing this morning and really enjoyed it and I am not and never have been a big sports fan. If you guys just give it a chance, you might see something you really like.
