View Full Version : Bobby Brady's fascination with Jesse James *ROGER* 11-25-2012, 03:45 PM Bobby was pretty dumb not to beleive that Jesse James was a killer until he met that old man who was the son of one of Jesse James' murder victims. PrettyinPink55 11-25-2012, 07:56 PM Bobby was pretty dumb not to beleive that Jesse James was a killer until he met that old man who was the son of one of Jesse James' murder victims. His parents tried time and time again to prove it to him, but he wouldn't listen!!   They cut out all the bad parts of the movie on TV, so it painted him in a complimentary light. They cut out so much on TV today!!! *ROGER* 11-25-2012, 08:10 PM His parents tried time and time again to prove it to him, but he wouldn't listen!!   They cut out all the bad parts of the movie on TV, so it painted him in a complimentary light. They cut out so much on TV today!!! True, but Bobby did know that Jesse James was a robber (theif.) That alone should have been enough for him not to idolize a criminal. Marvo301 11-25-2012, 09:04 PM True, but Bobby did know that Jesse James was a robber (theif.) That alone should have been enough for him not to idolize a criminal. I think Bobby idolized Jesse James because he thought (due to the edited movie) that Jesse James committed his robberies without hurting anyone. Once he understood that James was "mean, dirty killer" his opinion of the man changed dramatically. *ROGER* 11-25-2012, 09:11 PM I think Bobby idolized Jesse James because he thought (due to the edited movie) that Jesse James committed his robberies without hurting anyone. Once he understood that James was "mean, dirty killer" his opinion of the man changed dramatically. What really changed Bobby's mind was that dream he had after he met the old man whose father was killed by Jesse James. If it wasn't for the old man, I don't think Bobby ever would have been convinced of how evil Jesse James was. 9symphony9 11-29-2012, 03:12 PM I thought the same thing but then I said he is just young and naive. biffbronson 11-29-2012, 08:23 PM This episode probably actually works better in today's world than when it first aired -- as it seems that more and more, we've all become desensitized to deadly, violent acts. We're inundated with them through the media. And with the heinous acts of 9-11 everpresent in our memories, a guy who relied on 6-shooters, as bad as he was, pales by that standard of extreme mercilessness and evil. Guys like Charles Manson are still around and kicking -- if ever there was a poster boy for the argument for capital punishment, it's that f' -n bas+.ard. Are the officials who continue to give Charlie bed-and-breakfast any more intelligent than Bobby was? It's a warped system and a travesty of justice. Bronson 01-08-2013, 05:46 PM I found Bobby's facinationg with Jesse James bizarre as well. "Bobby's Hero" The best Brady Bunch episode and brilliantly done! Jack 70s show watcher 01-12-2013, 07:48 PM i cant see a movie about jessie james on tv without thinking of this ep Marvo301 01-13-2013, 07:39 PM According to Sherwood and Lloyd Schwartz in their book "Brady Brady Brady" they had originally wanted to do an episode about Bobby idolizing a modern day criminal but the network kiboshed that idea. So they got around that by having Bobby idolize a historic criminal and ended up choosing Jesse James. I of course have the Barry Williams book, but the more Brady reading material, the better!!! :D Marvo301 01-14-2013, 02:56 PM Hmmm, I'll have to check that book out!! I didn't even know they wrote one!! I of course have the Barry Williams book, but the more Brady reading material, the better!!! :D It's a very good book. Sherwood wrote the first half in which he describes how the show was created, sold to the network, how the parts were cast, and the filming of the pilot in which Mike and Carol gor married. Lloyd wrote the second half in which he writes about day to day life on the set, working with the kids, fighting with Robert Reed, and how a typical Brady ep was produced. 70s show watcher 01-14-2013, 04:12 PM It's a very good book. How did I not hear about this book?! I wonder if it was heavily promoted? A skyjacker if I'm not mistaken. (I remember that from Growing Up Brady.) PrettyinPink55 01-22-2013, 02:06 AM A skyjacker if I'm not mistaken. (I remember that from Growing Up Brady.) OT: Manson was sentenced to death, but it was overturned by the California Supreme Court in 1972. |
