I'm excited that ABC has finally decided to bring family centered comedies back to Friday nights. Do you think they plan to add more shows to make it a two-hour comedy block? If so, what types of themes would you like to see in these shows?

No, I don't. The ratings have shrunk since their premieres, and by next season, I expect something else in the 8pm hour.

reba's show is alright, but Friday night is the death slot - nothing seems to live there

It's a shame, because I adored TGIF as a child. :(

I think it will take time for ABC Comedy to take off. I wouldnt call it TGIF again until the shows are worthy of it.

You are so right. They have to earn that title.
What I meant was that TGIF was such an institution when I was a kid, I wish it was still that way and that it had never died out.
They tried to revive it a few years back, but it didn't work.
Sadly, I don't know if there is much of a place for family-centered comedy on the major networks today. I love the new comedies-- Modern Family, The Middle, The Big Bang Theory, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Community, How I Met Your Mother, etc...don't get me wrong, but they just don't make them like they used to.

The ratings are not horrendous but are not particularly good and don't inspire much hope for it to grow into a full block.

TGIF type shows are still around, they're just on cable (Disney and Nick) rather than the major networks. I find it pretty strange to compare a show like Community to the TGIF shows of the past, both have very different aims.

What I was trying to say was that while I miss the innocence of the shows of yesterday like those featured on TGIF, at the same time, I still enjoy today's sitcoms.
I wasn't really trying to compare or contrast the two, although they are stark contrasts of each other. Sorry if that came across as confusing!!  Apples and oranges, right?
