Jimmie dedicated his book to not only his mother, but to:
"my friend who I miss every day of my life, Steve Landesberg".
They came up through the stand up comic circuit before hitting it big on TV.

That's a great tribute from one friend to another!

Did not know that! I'd read that David Letterman was a writer for Jimmie Walker in the early days. But I do remember Jimmie Walker as "kid dyno-mite"/JJ in "Good Times" with Esther Rolle.
Yes, a great tribute by one colleague to another colleague in a tough profession which one expects to be dominated by serious competition and envy. It really is a breath of fresh air, instead, to see instances of friendship and loyalty.

 Jimmie tells a couple of funny stories of how he fell for Steve's crank calls before realizing he'd been had. Hilarious!!
