View Full Version : Lingering/Unanswered Questions
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 11:43 PM What are some lingering/unanswered questions you've always had about Three's Company?
Just a "disclaimer," this thread is meant to be fun. Maybe there are answers to our questions and maybe there aren't. It's just meant for fun, open discussion, so have at it!!!
I'll start:
1) Why did Eleanor get the big bedroom and the big bed when Janet and Chrissy had to share a room and each slept in the twin beds?
2) Why did Mrs. Roper marry Stanley in the first place? Why did he marry her?
TwinBrother 11-11-2012, 11:45 PM 1) Perhaps they started out as two roommates and then added a third to minimize cost. Or possibly Eleanor paid a slightly higher rent. Which makes me think, did Jack pay more than the girls for rent because he had his own room?
2) That was the way things were for many people in those days. When you got married, you got married for life.
PrettyinPink55 11-11-2012, 11:51 PM 2) That was the way things were for many people in those days. When you got married, you got married for life.
Yes, but what I mean is, they seemed completely incompatible!! ;) Why/How did they get together in the first place?
I don't think Jack paid higher rent than the girls.
TVFactFan 11-12-2012, 12:11 AM Why didn't Jack look into getting his own pad like Larry once he got the Bistro
Why did Cindy tell her boss she was typing someone's resume on company time?

Jack probably didn't want to leave because he was living with two girls!!!
Cindy wasn't exactly the brightest bulb, lol!!

Mrs. Roper seemed to refer to Mr. Roper sometimes as being a lot different when he was younger. I think that was a lot of it. He grew old and bitter lol.

Ok well that leads me to my next question, how the hell did she get a job as a secretary?
Oh, she was nice to look at it, LOL
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-12-2012, 01:34 AM Okay I have a question. It's might sound like a stupid question, but this part of a conversation never made sense to me and I was wondering if anyone could make sense of it.
In Chrissy's Hospitality, when Jack and Janet get home and have their little moment (STAB ME IN THE FEELS), this exchange confuses me:
Jack: She's gonna be okay. Somebody always watches out for kids like Chrissy.
Janet: They do? Well, in that case, if you have any favors coming, Jack, you ask for 'em now, okay?
Jack: I already have, Janet. I already have.
Whatttttt are they talking about? Am I that dense? I feel like it shouldn't confuse me at all, but I don't get what they are talking about lol. Is Janet saying that Jack is "a kid like Chrissy" and she's looking out for him? But then what is Jack talking about when he says he already has. Why is this confusing me so much. I FEEL LIKE CHRISSY.

Pretty sure it was stated that Chrissy set her up with her old job. I guess they trusted Chrissy so much that they were willing to hire her cousin.

Oh I could I forget, 'employee referrals" which is the reason for high unemployment:lol:

Jack probably wasn't making a profit as many don't when they first open a restaurant.
Cindy wasn't dumb, just naive.

She was talking about praying for Chrissy.
TVFactFan 11-12-2012, 11:35 AM Why did Mr. Furley not make out with the woman he brought back to his apartment he met at the beagle?? Then he helps her get back with her boyfriend??
I;m sorry but I think Furley was gay and wanted to keep it a secret from the kids. What straight man brings a woman back to his place and when the woman was begging for Furley to kiss her he gets scared??????
LOL
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-12-2012, 09:57 PM She was talking about praying for Chrissy.
I guess. The way it was worded still doesn't make much sense to me.

Could be. But I think a lot of Furley's personality was that he was all talk, but deep down he was a really socially anxious kind of guy. It's kind of a joke they always made about the guys on the show. They loved to be in control and hit on women, but when the women came on strong back it kind of freaked them out. That's all it was.

but she didn't come on strong, all she did was close her eyes and waited for furley to kiss her:lol:

Furley wasn't gay. He was just clueless. He was confident when women didn't like him and he was shy when they did like him.
PrettyinPink55 11-12-2012, 11:05 PM I think Furley wanted to be the pursuer in the relationship and he was intimidated by aggressive women. Remember in the other thread we talked about all those aggressive women that came onto/after Furley and he was kind of put off by it like he didn't know what to do? The lady (not sure if she was Larry's relative) at the Beagle opening, the heavier lady in "Downhill Chaser," Aunt Becky...well, Furley seemed to kind of enjoy that one lol!!! It showed his innocence and just how inexperienced with women he really was. He wanted the "kids" to think he was this "swingin'" guy, when he really wasn't.
I think it also has something to do with just how sweet Mr. Furley was. He was willing to give up his shot with that woman just so she could be happy. It showed Furley had heart!!
PrettyinPink55 11-12-2012, 11:11 PM One line that has always confused me is the episode where Jack plans on getting married to Denise, the date that was supposed to be Larry's, but he "got a better offer," so Jack ended up going out with her, and she wanted to change him, etc.
When Jack tells Larry he wants to get married, he says something like:
Jack: "Larry, haven't you ever wanted to get married?"
Larry: "Yeah, but the rabbit got better."
And the audience bursts into laughter. Is this referring to what I think it's referring to? LOL!!! That line always bothered me because I have never heard that expression!!

There is a type of a test that you can have that, if a rabbit dies, it shows that a woman is pregnant. Larry obviously thought that he had made a woman pregnant and thus had no choice but to marry her. However when the rabbit did not die after all, Larry was off of the hock.

Oh okay!!! That makes sense now!! Thanks!! :)
I wonder if people still employ that test or if it was a generational thing?

lol maybe a long, long time ago. I'm sure Larry was just using it in a joking manner.

When Jack said "Somebody always watches out for kids like Chrissy .", he was talking about God . A clergyman might say that Jack doesn't have any favors coming, but he WOULD recommend praying for Chrissy . Jack and Janet's remarks sound like something people might say when they believe in God, but aren't experts in Theology .

They used to use rabbits in pregnancy tests . There was an episode of M*A*S*H where Hot Lips thought she was pregnant, and Hawkeye did a pregnancy test using Radar's beloved rabbit . ( M*A*S*H took place in the 1950s . ) There was an episode of Gimme A Break where a young girl told Chief Kanisky that she knew she was pregnant and she was afraid to tell her folks, and she said "The rabbit died !" . Chief Kanisky claimed that doctor's didn't use the rabbit test any more, so it might be obsolete . I didn't mean to respond to questions that have already been answered, but I DID have extra information .

It's ok as long as contributing to the thread.
peabodynaugie 02-03-2013, 01:01 AM This show somehow stayed on the air in spite of idiotic writing. Hated Mr. Furley. Three's a Crud was the worst spinoff in tv sitcom history.

Three's a Crowd wasn't a spinoff, it was a continuation of the regular series
Basically season 9 of Three's Company

How could anyone forget the scene in Fatal Attraction where Glenn Close boiled the rabbit. The dead rabbit was supposed to signify that she was pregnant.
Mace Dolex 08-21-2013, 07:15 PM How could Janet get a car before Jack who was probably making more money now with the bistro?
TVFactFan 08-21-2013, 08:35 PM How could Janet get a car before Jack who was probably making more money now with the bistro?
Especially since Janet was a cashier:lol:
TwinBrother 08-21-2013, 10:34 PM How could Janet get a car before Jack who was probably making more money now with the bistro?
Probably because Janet was extremely frugal with her money and Jack spent his money on women.
Btw, Janet managed a flower shop. She was more than a cashier.
