View Full Version : Question for Three's Company Fans who discovered the show in syndication
TVFactFan 11-09-2012, 10:17 PM And before the show was released on DVD
Do you remember seeing the scene during the flashback episodes with Lucille Ball when Jack spilled his soda on Janet's legs while she was sitting on the couch after terri came out wearing her sexy nighty playing the voilin?
Did you said to yourself......."Hey I don't remember that scene"
That was because none of us watched the show on ABC and had not seen season 6 on DVD yet.
Anyone know the scene I;m talking about?
cloggedmind 11-09-2012, 11:23 PM What about the bit in the final hour-long episode where they're packing the stereo and it comes out the bottom of the box? The scene was always cut from syndication, but would show up as a still image in the credits of that episode.

Yes that was another scene I didn't see until years later
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-09-2012, 11:52 PM It was cut in syndication?
I don't know. I have no idea if I thought that or not. I don't remember lol. Too long ago.
TVFactFan 11-09-2012, 11:56 PM It was cut in syndication?
I don't know. I have no idea if I thought that or not. I don't remember lol. Too long ago.
Yes it was cut in syndication, I think it's a tag scene for a season 6 episode but not sure which episode
Terri was playing her violin and it was annoying Jack and Janet in the living room and Jack yelled at her and told her to come in the living room. Once she came out looking sexy in her nighty, the glass of soda Jack had in his hand spill on janet's legs while he was saying OH MY GOD!!! while looking at Terri
Then he turned to janet and asked "Janet did you take my drink?" And then Janet stands up on the couch and hits Jack with a pillow forcing on to fall on the floor and then she jumps on top of him and the episode ends
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 01:49 AM Do they cut certain scenes in syndication for the sake of time?
TVFactFan 11-10-2012, 01:52 AM Do they cut certain scenes in syndication for the sake of time?
Well I discovered Three's Company on my local station in philly and the Tag Scenes are never shown on local syndicated packages
Only on Cable.
Which is why I was so surprised once N@N aired Three;s company and I was seeing all the Tag scenes I never saw in the late 80's and 90's when I watched it in philly
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 02:17 AM I noticed that on Antenna TV they didn't air the tag scene for when Jack Goes to the Dentist. Terri and Janet get Jack a balloon because the dentist's office "ran out." I'm so used to seeing that scene that I was surprised they cut it. I guess the last time I saw it was on TV Land. I didn't notice that about the tag scenes until then, but I have noticed they cut out the beginning scene.

Antenna TV has the same syndicated cuts as local tv stations which is why you don't see the Tag scenes on Antenna TV
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 02:23 AM Antenna TV has the same syndicated cuts as local tv stations which is why you don't see the Tag scenes on Antenna TV
I see. That makes sense. In the Houston-area, you don't have to have cable to get Antenna TV. It's part of The CW family. I'm not sure if the non-cable subscribers get MeTV though.

By the Tag Scene with Jack Spilling the Soda on Janet is from the ep "Terri Makes her Move" in season 6

Yes non-cable subscribers get Me-TV also
TwinBrother 11-10-2012, 02:38 PM I know of no stations on antenna tv that offer old TC episodes here in the DC area. I assume by antenna tv we are talking about simple network tv?
TVFactFan 11-10-2012, 02:41 PM I know of no stations on antenna tv that offer old TC episodes here in the DC area. I assume by antenna tv we are talking about simple network tv?
We are talking about Antenna TV the digital channel
TwinBrother 11-10-2012, 04:23 PM We are talking about Antenna TV the digital channel
Yes, well, unfortunately Direct TV doesn't carry it and doesn't carry Retro TV either.
TVFactFan 11-10-2012, 04:33 PM Yes, well, unfortunately Direct TV doesn't carry it and doesn't carry Retro TV either.
Yeah I found out from my mom that Directv doesn't carry it. Not sure why
Have you found out if you can get Antenna TV by hooking up a Antenna to your television
TwinBrother 11-10-2012, 06:47 PM Have you found out if you can get Antenna TV by hooking up a Antenna to your television
Well Direct TV offers network channels for $5 more per month, which I have. One of them is channel 50, but the Antenna TV website is saying channel 50.2? carries Antenna TV in the DC area.

At the bottom of the page, you'll see a show called The Saint, which is about as good as any show you'll see imho.:happyface

I don't have it either and you are not missing anything
TVFactFan 11-10-2012, 10:12 PM So like rabbit ears from Radio Shack?
Yes, around $34.00
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 10:14 PM Hmm...I do miss watching Cold Case Files. Is "Archie" the Archie comic cartoons?
I noticed that in Houston it's probably available on Dish. I have Comcast Digital Cable. I tried the channels that they had for Dallas, but that just got me C-SPAN!!!
Jude The Obscure 11-10-2012, 10:26 PM Another tag scene that you see in "The Best Of" episode is the "Sadness depart, leave gladness in my heart" where Jack gets the girls to laugh by spilling milk all over himself.

Agreed.
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 11:04 PM I remember seeing it in the episode it originally came from, but not the "Best Of" episode.
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 11:06 PM The name RetroTV sounds like a promising channel though. If only it had better programs!!
Cold Case Files isn't really retro...

The shows on the lineup doesn't match the title of the network lol
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 11:15 PM The shows on the lineup doesn't match the title of the network lol
When I think of RetroTV, I think of shows like I Love Lucy, Bewitched, The Brady Bunch, Mary Tyler Moore, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Jeanie, Three's Company, The Facts of Life, Diff'rent Strokes, Family Ties, Leave it to Beaver, Twilight Zone, etc.
TwinBrother 11-10-2012, 11:17 PM ^Yes, those shows would make sense.
Antenna TV has a much better lineup of shows including Jack Benny and Benny Hill. lol
PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 11:20 PM ^Yes, those shows would make sense.

That's the main reason why I never cared for the retrotv channel.

back in 2004 we were all craving for a channel like Antenna TV. We were so sick of N@N and TV Land and then finally we saw the Classic TV light LMAO
And then BOOM!!!! "Antenna TV"

PrettyinPink55 11-10-2012, 11:46 PM I just checked out Me TV and it has some aweome shows! :happyface

The Hub network currently airs The Facts of Life, which I haven't seen on the air since maybe 2002?! :D I abbreviated FOL for The Facts of Life. Some people also say TFOL.
TwinBrother 11-10-2012, 11:48 PM The Hub network currently airs The Facts of Life, which I haven't seen on the air since maybe 2002?! :D
I see. I wonder if they air the first season that had Molly Ringwald on it.

They did air it in the spring. They are on season six now. :D
Mr. Television 11-11-2012, 12:06 AM I don't get RetroTV. At least I haven't come across it yet. What shows are on that network?
The Real McCoys, The Joey Bishop Show and Ozzie & Harriet are probably the best shows on it.
DJM77 11-11-2012, 11:57 AM Hmm...I do miss watching Cold Case Files. Is "Archie" the Archie comic cartoons?
Yeah, that's the one. RTV's lineup should be a lot better than it is. They have some old shows, but they also have some recent shows and some paid programming. The fact that I don't get Me-TV or Antenna-TV has REALLY been bothering me lately. I don't know if there is anything I can do about it or not. I may have to settle for DVD's and YouTube.

:( Hopefully your area will pick up the network soon. From what I've seen, the networks are constantly adding new stations and affiliations. It would be neat if you could watch the episodes online!!
DJM77 11-11-2012, 02:31 PM Have you tried hooking up a antenna to your TV?
I have a antenna on my roof, but I haven't used it since getting DISH in 2006. I think maybe it's got so I would have to get a converter box to get anything at all without DISH. I have an old TV. I don't know if that matters or not. I live in the sticks, so my options with this are probably more limited than it is with a lot of people.

Mace Dolex 08-23-2013, 06:15 PM Well I discovered Three's Company on my local station in philly and the Tag Scenes are never shown on local syndicated packages

Which is why I was so surprised once N@N aired Three;s company and I was seeing all the Tag scenes I never saw in the late 80's and 90's when I watched it in philly
Actually I don't know if anybody was aware of it but the episodes aired on N&N while still having the tag scenes where still edited albeit slightly than the ones in syndication markets.
How do I know? because the episodes still clocked in at 21 minutes which means that some scenes were removed in order to add the tag scenes.

Mr. Television 08-27-2013, 07:13 PM Yes, well, unfortunately Direct TV doesn't carry it and doesn't carry Retro TV either.
One reason why it was easy for me to finally dump Direct TV.
Mace Dolex 08-29-2013, 05:01 PM One reason why it was easy for me to finally dump Direct TV.
I have DirecTV and demand to know why I don't get Antenna TV.
I solved that problem by getting a digital converter box and now I have my Antenna TV, only thing is now they've stopped showing TC and Three's A Crowd, oh well at least I can still enjoy Diff'rent Strokes.
jehobden 08-29-2013, 05:57 PM Yeah that was another one that made me say...."I don't remember that" lol
Jack's spilling milk on himself was from the S2 ep, "Helen's Job", where Mrs. Roper got a job in a cafeteria on the urging of J/J/C, but it backfired on her when Mr. Roper appreciated the extra $ coming in.
Terri's playing the violin in her nightie came from the S6 ep, "A Friend in Need", where Jack subbed for Felipe as cook while Felipe's wife was having a baby, but the mobster liked Jack's cooking and wanted Jack to replace Felipe permanently. There was an earlier scene with Terri playing the violin badly, and the tag scene, with her still playing badly, but this time in a revealing nightie, was a callback to the previous scene.
The tags were cut out as soon as Three's Company went into syndication in 1982, and perhaps even sooner. I do not recall ever seeing Three's Company reruns on ABC daytime reruns, but someone once told me that the tags were missing on those reruns as well, so maybe syndication just went with the ABC daytime rerun edits. Can anyone confirm that about the daytime reruns? I was also disappointed that the pie fight from "The Bake-Off" was cut so that Jack's pieing by the Ropers was cut, so I never saw the full tag scene for that one until it was rerun on Nick-at-Nite.
BeatleMoe 04-25-2014, 11:33 AM Not all of the tags aired on Nick at Night either. And some tags did air in the syndicated episodes, just very few. "Roper's Niece," "Jack Looks for a Job," Elinore's Return," "Snow Job," "The Lifesaver," "Jack's Graduation," "Janet's Secret," "Jack Gets His..." and "The Heiress" all had tag scenes in syndication, though some of those were shortened a little. N@N cut the tag out of "The Heiress" while syndication kept it in.

I know N@N didn't air all the tag scenes but they showed 90% of them
Antenna TV shows 0%

Nope, N@N aired the tag for "The Heiress", because it's the first time I ever saw it. The last scene in that episode I saw growing up was Janet clotheslining Jack lol
Jinxey 04-25-2014, 10:19 PM Come to think of it.... in the episode "The Case of The Missing Blonde", the last scene I remember watching was when Jack revealed he had the note in his hip pocket and tried to run out the room.
They never showed the scene where Furley & Larry come to the apartment afterwards, or the tag scene
TVFactFan 04-25-2014, 10:20 PM Nope, N@N aired the tag for "The Heiress", because it's the first time I ever saw it. The last scene in that episode I saw growing up was Janet clotheslining Jack lol
That clothesline was not a tag scene:lol:
Jinxey 04-25-2014, 10:26 PM That clothesline was not a tag scene:lol:
I meant to say that growing up watching this episode in syndication, that was the last scene I saw.
I first saw the tag scene on N@N
Jinxey 04-25-2014, 10:37 PM What used to ANNOY me growing up watching Three's Company in syndication was that
They used to speed up the tape to play in the time allotted so the characters were moving fast
Sometimes the opening theme would play really fast (chipmunk version) or really slow (goth version) then they would adjust it halfway through
This was the kicker....
You know how they have two sets of end credits, one with the director and the writers of the episode, one with the cast, makeup artists, hairstylists, etc
Well no matter what episode they played (Season 2, 4, 6, 8) they always showed the second set of credits from season 2 where Jack, Janet & Chrissy were throwing food to the seagulls. Those credits had no guest stars.
It bothered me a lot lol
Jinxey 04-27-2014, 09:53 AM Watching Three's Company on TV Land....why are they using Season 1 opening credits for Season 3 episodes?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Beyond stupid
BeatleMoe 04-29-2014, 12:28 AM I noticed that TVLand has sped up the versions aired on N@N, but now with them adding a third commercial break, it is barely reaching 20 minutes an episode. They are cutting more small parts out.
BeatleMoe 04-29-2014, 12:37 AM I know N@N didn't air all the tag scenes but they showed 90% of them

Did you not read my list? And I am astounded at your 90% configuration. 76 episodes didn't have tags on N@N. They showed about 55% of them.

That's false. The only tag I don't remember seeing is the season 5 episode that involves the "Phone Tag" scene with Chrissy and Jack

I was noticing that too that I made a comment about it in this thread

I'd have to check up on it this Saturday if the episodes on TVLand are sped up slightly comparing them to my DVD's.

On the series as a whole, N@N/TVLand only showed about 55%. I saw every episode on N@N. I pretty much figured out after watching the DVDs a lot of fake tags were created by splicing laughter and applause before fading out to the last break. I realize that the Jack/Chrissy tag from season 5 was never shown on either station. I agree that N@N showed way more tags than syndication, but it was not in the 90% range.
Mace Dolex 05-08-2014, 03:52 PM I guess some at these boards know already but the TVLand airings are all sped up to run approximately 19 minutes which is utter BS, I mean if they're going to speed up the film they might as well show the episodes unedited since they will still clock in under the normal 23 minutes of each episode and they can still fit all the lousy commercials they want to.

put in your dvd's or watch the show on Antenna TV
Mace Dolex 05-08-2014, 08:15 PM But it's so much better watching it live on the air.

I was watching Three's Company again this afternoon on TV Land....why did they splice the syndicated opening for Season 5 with the original network opening?
They played the syndicated opening up until the part where Jack, Janet & Chrissy displayed their shirts from the amusement park listing the Season 5 producers (network opening). If you listen carefully, part of the song is missing.
