Does anyone know if there is a release of Dobie Gillis on DVD?
There have been no official DVD releases of "Dobie". If you are on Facebook please take a look at our page "We want "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" on DVD" and give it a like to join our campaign to convince FOX to release this gem on DVD!

It would definitely be nice to Dobie Gillis on DVD but considering it's Fox I wouldn't hold my breathe for it, regardless of any measures an energized fanbase can muster up.

I really wish this was on DVD too! I am grateful it is now on MeTV Sunday-Friday...and that I finally have MeTV! I am recording it daily!

I'm not interested to have Dobie on DVD, but the article says that Shout Factory has also picked up the rights for Fridays. I would like to see that show again, if Fridays comes out on DVD I might go for that.

Excellent news. I used to love this show when it was on Nick at Nite in the early 80's! I look forward to the release and am glad to hear they will release the entire series at once.

Starting in 1959, CBS aired The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis on TV, based on the early '50s short stories by Max Shulman (which also inspired a 1953 theatrical film starring Bobby Van and Debbie Reynolds). In the television show, Dwayne Hickman starred as Dobie, with other cast played by a pre-Gilligan's Island Bob Denver, and future film stars Tuesday Weld and Warren Beatty. Now it appears that The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis will come to DVD at last, thanks to the folks at Shout! Factory: Shout! Factory has acquired worldwide rights to "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis"...[which] centers on a teenage boy (Dwayne Hickman) and his struggles to win over various girls and achieve popularity...The series is well-known to a generation of Baby Boomers who tuned in weekly to watch its youthful protagonist's butt heads with his over-bearing mother and strong-minded father. The show's cast of characters also included Dobie's beatnik friend, Maynard G. Krebs (Bob Denver).

"Dobie Gillis" aired for 147 episodes on CBS and featured two actors in its early seasons who would go on to have major careers on the big screen. Warren Beatty played a rich boy who frequently got the best of Dobie in his pre-"Bonnie and Clyde" days, while Tuesday Weld ("Looking for Mr. Goodbar") portrayed the object of Dobie's affection. Shout...secured worldwide rights from the Max Shulman Trust. Shulman was the creator of the series and died of bone cancer in 1988.

Shout! Factory founders Bob Emmer and Garson Foos told TheWrap that they became intrigued by the property because there was a lot of activity around the series on message boards and other online communities. It helped that they were very familiar with the series themselves. "We grew up on it," Emmer said. "I fondly remember watching it. It was a passion play, but one there was a lot of interest and a terrific cast."

At first when I saw this my heart skipped a beat. I thought Fox held the home video distribution rights, which would mean Shout has re-opened their obviously strained relationship with Fox and could have lead to other neglected Fox shows like finally finish releasing Rhoda and The Bob Newhart Show. But then I read that it was negotiated with the Max Shulman estate who holds the rights to Dobie Gillis. Oh well, it's nice to see this show finally getting it's due.

Whatever Happened To Dobie Gillis was an un-sold pilot that aired in 1977.

Bring Me The Head Of Dobie Gillis was a reunion movie that air in 1988.

I looked up Zelda, and this pilot was made in 1962. It also was not picked up for a series. It says the production company for this is CBS, not FOX. There's a better chance with CBS owning it.

It was reported that Shout! Factory is releasing the complete series as a boxed set, sometime this year. Nothing was said about the release of individual seasons. For Leave It To Beaver, they released the complete series box set first, then released it by seasons. I imagine they'll do the same for Dobie.
