This thread is about the first of the Mary Morris murders - the one where Mary Lou Morris was found in her burned-out vehicle. I know the second of the two Mary Morris murders has gotten a lot of (deserved) attention on this board, and I also know that investigators once asked us to stop discussing it here because of the open nature of the investigation.
I think the murder of Mary Lou Morris has gotten considerably less attention here, and I just listened to the case again. Two things struck me:
(1) That no cause of death could be determined in her case. This, to me, raises an immediate question: how do we know that she was murdered? Could the car simply have caught fire (an electrical malfunction, a gas line leak leading to an explosion, etc.) with her trapped inside? The authorities make no bones about the fact that they are dead certain she was murdered - but if the cause of death could not be determined, I wonder how they reached that conclusion. I assume no bullet was found, which would seem to rule out gun shot (although I suppose a through-and-through shot could have been disguised by the burning of the vehicle). Is it just that her wedding ring was missing? I would think there could be other logical explanations for that other than she was murdered. This is important because...
(2) It's a little strange to me that she was found where she was found, how she was found. It seems as if someone got her to stop, killed her, then burned her car. But how do you that without a gun? Would she have stopped for any frantic stranger waving at her, who then commandeered her vehicle?
I would love to know the answers to these questions. Sadly, there appears to be little about her murder on the internet, outside of descriptions of the UM episode and things posted about the episode.
